What's a good cheap fun deck to pilot for a beginner. Not looking at memeing cunts yet with shaymins or shit like that coz i don't have anything of value.

Try this format:
4x Pokemon EX (your favorite mon)
4x big basic pokemon
3x support pokemon evo line (like Bronzong with metal links or Vileplume with its item lock ability)

Get a slew of trainer card staples like prof sycamore , ultra ball, professor's letter, and others thatll fit your deck's style.

I think thats a safe way to start. After that you can try experimenting with maining stage 2 pokemon which are slower to set up than EX but are less boring than EX which all end up feeling samey after a while (oooh big pokemon with fancy art and an assload of hp. . . It gets old)

You guys got any recommendations for price guides?
I use Troll&Toad and TCGplayer mainly, as well as PokemonCardMarket sometimes, but I was wondering if there are any good, consistent and better ways to correctly evaluate the price of a card. Would appreciate any feedback on the matter.

Also, what are some cards that sell well because they're used competitively? I'm a collector, but I know some cards like VS Seeker sell very well because of that, which makes good trade-money for me.

To add on to this, the most expensive card in the format right now is $30, and people rarely run more than 2-3 of it. Almost all cards are below $10 each, and you can get a playset of most staples for a dollar.

Congratulations, you listed every expensive staple in the game. And Computer Search is Expandumb-only, so I'm not sure why you mentioned that or why you're listing it alongside Shaymin.

Sycamores, Ultra Balls, Trainers' Mail, N, Birch, Lysandre, and every other staple you need to play Standard costs literal cents. Then, very few Pokemon ever cost more than $10 a pop, with most under below $5 each.

So, like I said, very rarely will a competitive deck come out to more than $120 when the only money cards are Shaymin and VS Seeker.

So, what's the point of these shittier cards?

I mean, in the mainline games, Gamefreak wants you to be able to use all Pokemon (at least in game); and for the most part you can use any pokemon in-game to success. The single player mode is not meant to be competitive, and this is reflected in how only a small portion of all pokemon are viable competitively in multiplayer.

However, the TGC is only made to be competitive, no? Sure, people collect the cards (as do I), but the original purpose of the cards was to have a competitive metagame be created around them.

So why are really shitty cards made? It's obvious that these cards will never be played...

I'm contrasting with the mainline games because those are created as a single player game first and foremost, with the competitive scene coming from the fans. The cards are created with competition in mind before all else.

Best way to play Mewtwo EX, assuming you mean the Scatter Shot Mewtwo because Photon Wave Mewtwo is garbage, is to run it with its Megas (I run both) and Shrine of Memories. You evolve it, use Shrine of Memories and attack with Damage Change when you're hurt and Psychic Infinity or Vanishing Strike when you're not. There aren't any other Pokemon you'd run with it except Shaymin EX and Hoopa EX.

Dude get rid of the ultraballs and use dive balls.
Get some energy retrieval cards and another professors letter. You should only use Frogadier to get the other 3 down on the field, so you don't really need the rare candies. Also not necessary, but try the BKP Slowpoke. The card is really good at saving your skin.
Its second move lets you look for ANY pokemon in your deck, so it can help you get out a Frogadier or a Froakie in case you didn't get one. A town map is also useful since you will eventually prize G-Break or any other valuable cards. The energies are fine. I would even throw in another basic energy just in case. And try to make the deck around Greninja only. Don't depend on EX cards since its also way funner to wreck your opponent using Greninja's XY and Greninja Break's abilities.
But other than that it looks good.
Oh, and try getting another Break. I know I know, they are expensive (8-10 dollars) but it will make up for it with the consistency.

Oh and that Wailord is waaaaay too expensive. The point of G-Break is cheap cards to dish out a lot of damage. Like Greninja Break needs one energy (discarded) to do 60. You can do a minimum of 140 for 3 energies if you have Greninja XY and Greninja Break as your active. If you have any more Greninjas and more energies then you can pretty much knock out anything. That's also why you need the energy retrieval cards. Oh, and the Float stones are a good addition, that way you can rotate your frogs to use the ability with your other G Break.
