There's only one thing I'll say on this matter, and that is it shows how purposeless their existence as villains is. True, that's the general point of their characters, but it's for this reason that they are also the most well-developed thing on the entire show. Then they shit on it by insisting they're BFFs and they're not allowed to have their own lives. I am surprised the writers don't commit SUICIDE from this crazy practice. I imagine the only reason they don't is because they're Japanese and everything has to have a strict formula.

So...Most of Unova. The appeal of the Unova anime to me was that Team Rocket were actually pretty bad ass.

They have started to do this with Jessie, at least in giving her the contest side plots. She's got a goal to accomplish. Granted, she'll probably never accomplish it for much the same reason that ash will never win a league, but it's at least something to work for.

I'm just hoping they give James something he can work towards as well. They've given him some personality, and some jack-of-all-trades skills, but he's got nothing to apply them to aside from being Jessie's chew toy.

Is it just me, or does it seem like Jessie is there only to ruin it for James and Meowth? I mean James seems pretty smart and Meowth isn't an idiot either (he has had his fuck ups though), but Jessie just seems like she's just there to fuck things up for them.

She became good in DP because she stopped cheating. Almost all of her failures in life have been because she tried to cheat, or because she got greedy. Shit man, I just watched the Pokemon dress up episode last night. Her and meowth had that thing IN. THE. FUCKING. BAG. And what do they do? Meowth says "let's steal the egg anyway". And Jessie says "great idea!". You had a taking meowth! He would have won hands down!

I honestly think the Kalos ones are the worst. They do some random event like cooking or attracting those Rhyhorn, and then they do a watered down version of a pokemon contest performance. Serena does literally nothing besides having her pokemon dance. It's cute, for sure, but there's no element of strategy or training involved. She does practice in certain episodes, but the final product is unrecognizable. You never say, "Oh, she's doing that thing they practiced" when she actually performs. Conversely, Dawn and May were always practicing specific combos and techniques. When they performed, you could actually see the fruits of their labor. For example, May practiced the fuck out of having Beautifly use Silver Wind and Dawn developed that spin technique. Serena has nothing specific like that. She just tells her pokemon to dance.
