These are not sharks, these are dolphins.

They wanted Shapedo's designed to be inspired somehow and Garchomp is a subtle joke about West Side Story

Pokemon are inspired by animals, not literally those animals. A shark+torpedo can be a shark pokemon, you don't need a literally my moms shark style of pokemon.

Honestly, would we even care about simplicity or overdesigned when we were kids? This is something I hate about the older fandom nowadays. When did we become snotty art philosophers who cherry pick every detail and color, every nuanced shape and form? I mean, ffs we're criticizing Pokemon based off the shape of their feet! Their fucking feet! Who's gonna care when kids have this cool looking creature to look forward to, the same way we looked at Gyarados, Charizard, and Blastoise back in the day? It's rediculous...

But on the other hand, I can see where you all, who complain and complain about the designs are coming from. I've now noticed that one reason of what makes Pokemon so unconsciously popular. When analyzed, I've realized that Pokemon has a design philosophy, one that has created a threshold where the perfect appeal has been achieved. This threshold is what arguably allowed Pokemon's popularity to endure since its beginning, and why it has outlived other similar franchises.

I really like Sharpedo design, his mega is atrocious tho. I don't understand why they make super simply and nice megas that just expand on the original pokémon (ex: Mawile and Sableye), then proceeds to go full derp and just give Sharpedos a bunch of spikes on unecessary places.

you do know, Garchomp is also based on a Fighter Jet, and Fighter Jets are "Overdesigned" (even though Garchomp isn't because he only has 3 colors which don't clash and he's also very smooth looking)

Plus "overdesigned" is a stupid arguement anyway becuase there are many erratic and exotic looking animals on this very planet. Are you gonna call them overdesigned as well?
