Its got a ton of details, yeah. There's a training gym that's a clear reference to the EV training dojo things (forgetting their name..) from Gen 6. Lot's of pokemon hidden all throughout the stages. The fighting dojo has both Substitute dolls and Mokujin from Tekken.

The lead dev of Pokken is a huge pokemon nerd, even has his own pokemon club set up in Bandai for him and his coworkers. He EV trains and has like 3 boxes of ditto for breeding and shit. They put a lot of care into the detail work of the game.

I'm glad that Pokken has so much love poured into it.

It just sucks that I don't like fighting games, because otherwise i'd pick it up.

Many of the moves actually resemble and functions like the ones they're based off of.

Dig is useful for dodging projectiles and wide attacks
Overheat is a powerful last resort that leaves the user debuffed when used
Hyper Beam has Mewtwo need to rest a bit in order to recharge
Flare Blitz is powerful, but causes recoil on hit
Calm Mind leads to Stored Power increasing in damage
Magical Leaf and Aura Sphere have homing capabilities
Hypnosis is useful for setting up combos

It's pretty neat how they implement lots of these moves while balancing them.
