There is every reason to argue over what these games are. These games have broken patterns already, it's the most vague they have ever been with a new game announcement and there are too many unanswered questions related to Kalos (zygarde forms, eternal floette, new region references all in XY) to think it's just being swept under a rug and suddenly followed up with a standard new generation

For once I'm not going to be a muh pattern fag because it's clear this game is going to be something different and probably redefine what a new generation means all together

Though some would argue that it's better to define a generation based on mechanics, compatibility, etc. than on new Pokemon. So far all these things have always been bundled together, but if they become decoupled It might become important to make a distinction between mechanic generations and Pokemon generations.
