The powercreep is real. It's been generations since it came out.
Is it time to finally give Slaking a real ability?
>>25696136
What do you suggest as an ability?
>inb4 huge power
If it ever gets a mega I think it will get a look more akin to Vigoroth and an ability like Normalize. Modest stat changes.
>>25696136
I still find Giga Impact and Eject Button works fairly well
Mold Breaker
>>25696136
Defeatist. Give it a big buff to attack, so that even when halfed, it's still scary.
What if Mega Slaking got -20 in every stat and got Speed Boost as its ability?
Give it thick fat.
>>25696629
That's like breaking someone's legs then giving them rolled blades.
>>25696687
Rocket-powered wheelchair
>>25696136
>powercreep
>pokemon's abilities are unrelated to their design and are actually implemented to balance the 'metagame'
Slaking have Truant because they are sloths and sloths behave like that.
>>25696697
It's also because it has legendary-tier stats.
>>25697018
You're looking at it backwards. It has legendary-tier stats to compensate for Truant.
The whole point is he's mini-maxxed
Giving him a good ability would be like ... Making Ferrothorn immune to fire or something
>>25697068
The point is that Slaking's starts ate nothing amazing in this metagame. They haven't been amazing since gen 5, and they certainly stopped being impressive with the advent of megas.
Short of giving it something retarded like Huge Power or Speed Boost, something other than Truant wouldn't be as terribly good as you seem to think it would.
>>25697159
megas can't hold items, that makes most of them weaker then a life orb, thick fat slaking
>>25696162
Something useless like unnerve or own tempo would be good for playtesting, see how it works without its ability in a vacuum. Or evenstall
>>25696136
Give it a mega where its stat changes slightly but gives him an ability that won't push him over the top. My list of nominees
>big pecks
>early bird
>inner focus
>limber
Basically, normal-type abilities that are sort of common in wild pokes. Anything but Truant. Fuck, even Runaway is better.
>>25696136
How much better would slaking be if traunt just made it so you couldn't use attacking moves on your loafing turn but could use status moves? So you could still use taunt, slack off, yawn, stuff like that. It still hinders it, but it keeps it from being setup bait.
>>25697186
so give it klutz
Is running it in doubles with a mon that knows skill swap like in Colosseum a viable strategy?
>>25696697
Looks like a gorilla to me.
>>25697269
It should work if you're playing against idiots that don't expect that as soon as Slaking and a Skill-swap mon are in the field.
>>25697269
Fuck skill swap, no one wants to carry truant. Try gastro acid instead.
