In regards to getting them to SM, it's an imitation versus your original legitimate Pokemon. Other than that, I'd just want to preserve my original save file.

I guess I'm just different about it then you. I can easily imitate my original Pokemon with PKHeX like I do with competitive mons, but I'd much prefer getting the real thing over.

You should probably replace the battery if you haven't already. Just make sure that the game is powered when you do or else you'll lose yourself. You can do this easily if you take the cover off and load the save while it's in a gameboy advance, then swap the battery.
