A lot of people already put Zygarde into has beens box but in fact we dont know almost ANYTHING about it, even the anime so far is very vague. I feel it will play a large role in Sun and Moon just not the role people were expecting from the potential Z

It isnt. TCG uses the same symbol for Fighting, Ground and Rock. Its still Ground/Dragon

Zygarde needs Pokémon Z!

I mean, I have a theory that Zygarde might have been involved in the war in Kalos 3000 years ago along with Xerneas and Yveltal.

The war might have damaged the ecosystem that Zygarde was monitoring. So it's possible that Zygarde got so angry, that it changed into it's Complete Forme and stopped the war by doing something terrible to the humans as a warning to them.
