except they're both used for different things. Slowbro is used for longtivity and defensive pivioting because of regenerator while Mega Slowbro is more of an anti-wallbreaker because it's got such massive defenses, scald and is immune to crits.

Same with mega-sableye. Mega-sable stops all hazards, status inducers, has superior defense, while regular sableye can more easily stop pokemon from setting up. Sableye is more proactive while mega-sableye is more reactive. I personally prefer non-mega sableye over mega-sableye but mega-sableye sees more usage.

Sableye is mawiles counter part and both of them where pretty popular. Sableye was the first pokemon with no weaknesses and had popularity from that.

Sableye with prankster has always been OU. Priority will-o-wisp, taunt and recover saw to that. He has been an anti-lead since Black/white. Also his non-mega form is just as good as his mega and playing with him you often do not mega evolve because prankster is better against the opponent than magic bounce.
