I hope I'm wrong here, but I'm suspecting that Serena's explosive shock and the slowed down/fading frames in the preview are signs that Serena's about to dance with Ash when the dance abruptly ends (resulting in Serena's shock) because it's time for everyone to double battle with the random person they just switched to.

Or, if I'm not wrong about this, I hope it at least sets the stage for an extremely qt dance after the battle ends, either by the party arrangement, Serena building up the nerve, or Ash seeing how shocked she was about the dance ending/sad she is about losing the match (assuming they lose the match) and wanting to cheer her up.

It's not rocket science. The only time Ash has ever retained a female companion for a new region was Misty, going from Kanto to Johto, but that was because there were no other good candidates and on top of that, it was unsuccessful.

Ever since then, it's been a new girl every time, and I doubt that's about to change after XYZ ends. Like it or not, it's all part of promoting the new game, and it makes more sense to use a character from the latest product than one from the past. It's also no coincidence Brock has been MIA for two series now.

All the movies got really fucked-up placements.

Movie 14 premiered between BW41 and BW42, but BW40-44 form a 5-episode arc it doesn't exactly fit into. Do note that the only reason it premiered here was that BW23 and 24 got skipped, though, had the series aired as originally intended, it'd have premiered between BW39 and 40, where it fits fine.

Movie 15 premiered between BW Season 2 episode 3 and 4, right in the middle of the Dawn arc, but at this point each episode was so tightly connected to each other it doesn't really fit anywhere else either, so if you want some sensible continuity, you just kinda have to go with the fact that the rest of the group went on a vacation without Dawn.

Movie 16 premiered between Decolora Adventure 11 and 12, and while there are no real plot complication there, the group is VERY clearly not traveling the Decolora Islands at the time. It'd be like if movie 2 was randomly set back in Kanto.

At the end of XYZ, each character will go their separate ways. Ash will go to the 7th gen region, Clemont and Bonnie will probably stay in Kalos and Serena will go somewhere, but it won't be with Ash.

Ash's new companions will probably be another male gym leader and the female player of the new game, because it's a formula that works. She probably won't have a crush on Ash because history shows all new characters to be different from the last.

There will be an episode where Serena returns. It will have some amourish moments/blushes, but that's all it will be.
