It's not that I liked them so much as I think 4chan has too many boards and too many moderators. There's a balance between on-topic and fun, but the staff lost their way about five years ago. That's why /sp/ is awful now and both /b/ and /pol/ haven't been fun in years.

It's the natural order of things: we came from SA and look at them now. Eventually happenings will stop... happening... and this site will enter a slow decline until there's nothing but us bitter oldfags. Maybe that's decades away, but people are going to go where they can be themselves. moot knew that, which is why moot is kill.

And no, bitter extra-chans aren't going to amount to anything. They'll always be cheap knockoffs (irony, I know) and those communities are always full of empty niche boards that never build new communities.

You don't limit yourself to one board. Why limit yourself to one website? I keep tabs open on various places to fill my entertainment needs even if that includes lesser image boards. When you are ready to jump then you will already understand the culture.
>>
>>56968
I don't, but I think I might've been a little too harsh in my criticism. I might loathe /pol/, but in helping them look for a home after /mlpol/ died, I realized I've been thinking as a user as though the board revolves around me, and not as an administrator who has to balance the wants and needs of the user base.

Maybe we have too many boards and too much moderation, but they're manageable problems, not dire.
>>
>>56957
Moderation isn't the problem. In fact, i distinctly remember times when there was no moderation, and it fucking sucked. The issue you're having is that you're not actually interested in the subject matter. The perfect balance is 100% on topic and a board's quality should not suffer because you'd rather talk about something that's completely irrelevant.
>>
>>56970
I'll have to agree that I find my own interests more important than what's best for each board. I have had a couple of times where the mods completely turned against what I like to talk about because they became too popular for /a/. That lead to me leaving the site for a while which I know no one cares if little old me leaves the site. The way people behave on /a/ they really don't want users. That attitude that is caustic to new users can be good for quality of knowledge of the topics because it cuts the wheat from the chafe. However it seems to go overboard and lead to people angrily posting more often than actually talking about anime and manga. It's like a competition to be the most vile to people that have different opinions at the cost of actual anime and manga discussion. I know "Don't like it well fuck off." I understand that knee jerk reaction. Just know that if you have that opinion you're going to lose a lot of people actually passionate about the hobby, just as knowledgable as you, and when all the people that care are gone you're going to have a shitposting board instead of an anime and manga board.

The only one I visited was /mlpol/. It started off as a total shitstorm, but turned into something great. I've never liked /pol/, but the /pol/acks that weren't scared off by all the horse pussy, and crotch-tits were actually pretty cool. I think it actually brought out the best in both boards, and showed we're not too different. It gave us a glimpse of how 4chan used to be before it was consumed by memes and shitposting. It would be cool to see the board live on for a little while longer, but I think it would get old fast.
>>
>>56971
no but the thing is sometime people like to talk about different stuff with the people who share the same interested/hobby with. There is only so much to talk when you stay on topic. Why do you think all /a/ hate animes and all /v/ hate video games?

and for example food thread on /v/ are tend to be different than food thread on /ck/.

This is good advice. I need to make something better than the Navy Seal pasta though because that's stale at this point. We need new OC and like you said be the change you wanna see.

What I learned from the merger

>There are a LOT of South Americans on /a/
>/an/ is a surprisingly active and interesting board with a chill userbase
>Canadians really do shitpost at an above average rate
>there are a lot of people on /fit/ who fancy themselves Renaissance men
>/pol/ really doesn't know how to take a joke at all, and also 90% of its users don't care about the rest of the website

On the plus side I have started browsing /an/

On the down side I have stopped really giving /pol/ the benefit of the doubt and am starting to agree with people who think it should be deleted

Overall my favourite merged boards were /can/ and /cock/
>>
>>57639
I'm likely to start browsing /an/ myself. It seems very interesting and with a lot of potential. Thanks.

>no but the thing is sometime people like to talk about different stuff with the people who share the same interested/hobby with.
This still isn't a justification for off topic discussion. There is a time and place for everything. The place for discussions are in their appropriate boards. Some of them are hurting for traffic and would actually improve if people moved their irrelevant (in their "home" boards) discussions to the relevant boards. Furthermore, there are many more places than 4chan. I commonly hear how people here think any site that isn't 4chan is inferior to us, but that's really masked fear of having to adjust to a new culture (and quite frankly, the cultures across sites are really not that different). There's always a new community, too, so just because the first was crap does not mean the rest are.
>There is only so much to talk when you stay on topic.
What a terrible justification. It's even worse than the last. No hobby and no subject here is so shallow you can can run out of things to discuss. And if there is, 4chan is not the only site out there, as I said. Those boards you gave as examples are perfect examples of why on topic discussion are preferable to off topic. Do you remember when /v/ became another /b/? So many see it with rose tinted goggles but I remember actual video game discussion getting shitposted to death, while the same old fucking shit, the same Ito manga, the same Deep Sea images and Wikipedia articles, the same YouTube links, etc, all because people were too comfortable there and refused to even participate in the subject on hand. /v/ stagnated the hardest and still has not fully recovered from the era of offtopic shitposting "/v/ culture".
>>
>>56954
Guys why can't I see the OP image?
>>
>>56967
No; the place was overrun with shills that obviously didn't even know how to use the site.
For the most busy board on 4chan, I struggle to produce one funny meme from /pol/.
>>
>>56957
>too many boards
I disagree; we should just halve the page count of some boards.
>>
>>57846
I agree with you that there's not too many boards. I think it's good to have the ability to take conversations to somewhat niche boards. Otherwise you'd be able to argue that anything taken with a camera belongs only on /p/ which doesn't make any sense at all. It'd just congest a board unnecessarily with too wide a variety of topics.
>>
>>57664
Why do Canadians like anime so much?
>>
/cock/ was comfy but the novelty wore thin when they postponed Samurai Jack for Rick and Morty and the /co/ half did nothing but REEE for hours

While i can't say the merged boards were the best thing, I did really like the idea of /vint/ and how it showed your flag. Helps us identify leaf posters and is just an interesting way to publicly observe trends in other countries.
