I honestly can't remember.

It was definitely sometime in 2008-2011, but it may have been a little earlier, when I was a NSider Forum kiddie and looking for new places to browse.

Certainly, though, I was a bonafide fa/tv/irgin by the end of 2011, so I'll take my 5 Year Veteran badge.

I only got mine around 2014 because I was in the army away from my desktop and since they banned camera phones I had to post on a shitty Huawei G330 that could barely handle captchas. Then I kind of recently renewed because I was posting a LP on /vp/ of a fangame, and it was fucking impossible to queue tons of posts with captcha like I did with a previous LP with my pass.

Still, I really can't imagine life without 4chan now, so I'm willing to shell out shekels if needed. It's not much for what I get from here, and it all started with trying to find loli hentai as a kid

How'd you guys find 4chan anyway, and why/what were the first things you did when you came?

A tripcode carries a very unique identity, one which can be traced through archives and whatnot, while the clover does not.

I came in during a break from college in 08, right before the boxxy shitstorm
I would spend every waking hour on /mu/ but somewhere along the line it shifted to /v/

idk why I was holding out on buying a pass for so long it's glorious to not have to deal with captcha anymore

'07 or '08 I guess. Plunked around on it a little bit earlier but was a major gaiafag back then like everyone else was.

Took a few years off for the military when I hit 18. Got back into it when mandatory service was up.

In fact, I found my old saved 9gag photos via Google Photos by accident. Funny thing is that now I don't get most of the stuff downloaded. Proof that I was a part of hivemind that didn't think for themselves.

The number of actual oldfags around is a pretty tiny percent of the population. Most people who claim to be aren't.
>>
>>4584
what do you consider an oldfag?
is it based on the number of years you've been here or the year that you came hear?

I came here in 08 which means I have been here for more than half of 4chan's lifetime but I wasnt hear in the very beginning so am I an eternal newfag?
>>
>>4584
It's probably pretty high among pass users though. I mean, we're probably all in our late 20s or early 30s by now, we're established and settled down, have jobs so we can easily afford to spend 20 bucks on convenience. The later the year you joined is, the bigger the chances you can't afford a pass.

>>
>>4690
I'm '08 and I don't consider myself a real oldfag. Obviously the original meaning of these words is stretched pretty thin with all the years that have passed. I generally put oldfag at '06 and earlier, newfag at '10 (maybe '12 if we're being generous) and later. Those of us in between are just garden variety fags I suppose. But that's just me, it's not like there's a dictionary for this shit.
>>
I came in 2009. I was one of the first spidermen.

early 2007 here. i'm still steadfastly of the opinion that *nobody* is an oldfag. the basic idea of the concept is that everyone's always a newfag. oldfags are the people who joined long before you - regardless of when you joined. if anything, moot is the only oldfag who ever existed.

i still call myself a newfag and find nothing to it. i don't even want it to change.

The thing I dislike about posting with an identity anywhere else is that folks judge you on your post count. Which is more proof why anonymity is a good thing for us.

What I've always loved about 4chan is that any form of identification is stricly optional. Heck, I wouldn't even mind account-based forums as long as I can post anonymously a well.

4chan has ‘since4pass’, tripfagging etc. as well, but the difference is that it's entirely optional. Let's pray in peace that it never stays that way

(also, tripcodes being available actually makes it easier to filter complete cancer)

I don't see it ever becoming an issue outside of a certain board, but thankfully the anonymizer feature in 4chan X that I already used to neutralize tripfags (to a certain extent) removes the Pass icon as well.
>>
>>8308
It's completely fine anon. I like people who read more than they post, it's much better than the opposite.

At the end of the day, I think that's what makes up the community of pass users, though - those who spend so much time here that the financial investment is basically zero.
>>
>>8308
I don't care about everything else, but the amount of time I've saved not dealing with captcha must make the cost ratio insanely small. I'm not sure how useful the lowered cooldown will but, but nice to be able to switch between threads and not wait around.
