ITT: Stories about having money.

I buy Subway every day for lunch, it's more expensive than packing a lunch but I don't care because I'm not poor.
>>
>Work several minimum wage jobs throughout high school.
>Drop out of college and go to work full time for several dollars above minimum wage.
>Have discussions about income and bills with coworker.
>Tell him if I ever made a lot of money I'd probably still eat at cheap fast food places and hoard most of my paychecks because I'm too stingy to buy "affluent" "upscale meals" and frivolous spending.
>He tells me that'll likely never happen because all money is relative; the more you make, the higher the chances are you'll increase your spending and upgrade/splurge on various things.
>Fast forward ten years, now making almost $75K a year.
>He was absolutely right. I go out with friends and coworkers to upscale restaurants and buy a lot more shit from Amazon than I ever thought I would.

Is this what they call consumerism? Is this mostly an American thing?

I just ate three lobster tails for dinner, and I would never go to subway, that food is fucking disgusting.
Actually, 99% of restaurants are disgusting. I only go out of respect for guests. Homemade grilled lobster with French onion soup, can't be beat. I get to eat exactly what I want, when I want, and tastes better too. Here's a tip: carmalize the fuck out of onions, literally makes anything you put them on edible.

caramelized onions are amazing.

Its a global thing, the hard bit will be if you ever end up poor again, just be glad you'll still be spending less than born middle class co-workers.
>>

Caramelized onions are tasty but I wouldn't put it in coffee ergo you are wrong.

Human beings are never content. It's a survival mechanism from our hunter-gatherer days.

You can be cheap, but frankly, you only live once. Enjoy life while you can.

I buy cola in cans instead of in plastic bottles because it tastes better.

I'm American and I still don't spend any of my money despite making money now. Only thing I spend money on is friends and family. I just don't care about buying myself stuff. Entertainment is absurdly cheap.

I was never poor though so I guess I don't feel that need to splurge. However the more important factor is that I simply don't get pleasure from spending more at high end restaurants or having the latest fashion or car or whatever. So I know I'm not saving money because it's a choice and a test of my will, it's simply because I have little I care to spend it on. I'm easily contented.

>I'm easily contented.
I wish I had a virtue like that. You're doing all right in my book.

Sort prices high to low on most websites. Also on restaurant menus, start at the most expensive items.

Downloaded Amazon purchase history. I was spending about $300/month for over two years.

Regularly would spend $80 on dinner for myself alone, because I'm a loser. App, entree, dessert, wine.

I quit that job though because I was miserable and moved into my truck to ski/rock climb. Now I eat a lot of McDonalds and Soylent.
>>
>>54935
Wasn't there some controversy over Soylent?
>>
>>55256
It had too much lead in it. and was banned in California for a while.
Soylent also contains xenoestrogens which turn you into a fairy.
>>
>>55256
It's made from people?
>>
>>55258
Only the good stuff.
>>
>>55257
>25 times greater than legal lead levels
How do people fuck up this badly?
>>
>>55260
Fun fact: lead was used as a sweetener only available to the nobility during medieval times. It's supposed to taste pretty good.
>>
>>53173
>I buy Subway every day for lunch
Now that you have money maybe you should focus on getting some taste?
