I hear the modern twist to melonpan is to add melon fruit to the recipe.
I had some mini melonpans that came in a variety box from J-List a few months ago. They tasted like melon flavored cookies so it wasn't bad. I do wonder how a real melonpan tastes like.

That's basically what it is. Melonpan is just bread dough wrapped in cookie dough then baked. Very easy to make yourself.
