I sincerely don't understand why musicals are as niche as they are. They're the only genre that really gets my blood pumping the way action movies are supposed to.
I dunno, it doesn't make any sense from a narrative perspective and it's always pretty lame whenever a TV show does a musical epiosde (Scrubs is a good example, it fell flat for me personally).
They just don't feel like they belong, Big Hero 6 was one of the few Disney movies that I genuinely enjoyed it because there were no musical numbers.
When I watch a movie, I want a narrative.
A musical is more fitted to a stage performance then some with a focus on narrative.
That's just my opinion, but I know a lot of people that love musicals and I guess that's perfectly fine.
Because musicals don't have the type of music I enjoy.
I swear it's like "musicals" could be a genre of music they all sound alike to me.
Plus I don't actually enjoy my movie getting broken up by random acts of musical sing alongs from the cast. I remember being young and loving A Land Before Time but feeling embarrassed and hating it when the musical parts would come on.
Musical-esque music is shit. Most of it is way too upbeat.

In a good musical, the songs service the story. I'd say that your problem is you haven't seen enough good ones, but you say you've seen Disney movies before, and most of the 90's Disney movies use their songs to service the story.

Nice trips.
I'm actually straight, but also a mildly autistic manchild.

This is the kind of thing I really like.
I actually like them in a comedic setting.
These are pretty short and sweet:

Does he ever use musical numbers to actually add anything to the story or tell us more about the characters? Like, instead of just to tell a joke? The last example is pretty good, but unfortunately, it's a licensed song and wasn't actually written for the show.
Here's a good musical number from an animated series that, despite its reputation, I actually do like.

>Pearl is training Connie to swordfight
>part of this is teaching her not to value her own life
>she is doing this because she doesn't value her own life
It's all communicated pretty organically through the song.
Batman musical when?

I fucking hate this show.
We get it, you're super SJW, gender is fluid, blah blah blah.
And the music is unbearable, the characters are boring and flat, and to top it off they're all pretty unlikeable.

/v/ musical is good
It's because all the patricians go to opera once they get over the singing style. And it's really only grating in women.
