The problem with Ultimax is that it was written like shit and so were the characters. The P4 cast was just a group of friends having fun from the start, they are the same age they were in the game and they are still getting another game.
But the P3 cast was people we hadn't seen in ages and were supposed to have grown, or at least not gone backwards. But all of them look ridiculous, Akihiko and Mitsuru become retards and their issues are even worse than when P3 started, Fuuka gets the shittiest conclusion... And the characters they added in Ultimax barely had relevance or were written at all.
PQ actually managed everything regarding the characters way better, protein and meat jokes included. That's how bad Ultimax was.

Akihiko is an idiot who went straight from training to the fight without stopping to change.
Mitsuru doesn't choose her own outfits and her maids like to troll her. This is also why when she requested a small car to do reconnaissance, they gave her the biggest limo you'll ever see.
Also Yukari's outfit was because she was auditioning for a Featherman show or something and a SO helicopter literally grabbed her off the set.

Arena and Ultimax basically take two days and DAN is probably the same. And Q is of course over before either story ends. Everyone really moved on, but are willing to come back for emergencies.

Finally finished the story. I don't ever wanna hear the word "Bond" again. The P4 side parrots it nearly every other sentence. Sho's plot was retarded and the Fujoshi sword set to "Fog" against one of the shittiest excuses for a boss (They seriously ripped off Take-Mikazuchi from Blazblue Chronophantasma) I've ever seen. It doesn't even seem like their done with Persona 3's cast either thanks to Public Safety.

The Inaba murders were national news especially since they involved a well known tv person and a government official so the Kirijo Group had to have known. The hype died down when it devolved into a small town kidnapping thing because the P4 guys were saving everyone else tossed in but you'd think two mysterious deaths with no signs of actual trauma or identifiable cause of death would scream shadows or at least the possibility of shadows to the Kirijo Group.

Same with P5. It certianly looks like Phantom and his crew (do they all get thief names like him?) are gonna be well known criminals based on all the police shown chasing them in the trailer, but chances are nobody from any other Persona game is gonna show until later crossovers.

It will largely depend on what the story of P5 is like. I mean, if it's really heists, I can't imagine characters not being pretty relevant to the story. By comparison, in 3/4, all that really mattered was that the shadows get their butts kicked, not really who did it. It was a job a single person could do.

So I played the PS2 version of Persona 4 in English around 5 years ago, and I'm considering playing Golden JP version despite my massive backlog.

For those that have played it, would you say the JP golden version will give much of a different experience from the eng PS2 version?

They didn't really hide the whole cast (even Naoto) from the start, but there was also alot of promotional stuff only showing protag Yosuke Chie and Yukiko. And of the two Chie was the more prominant one (like the ost cover where she's right in front, while Yukiko is standing so far in back from the other 3 it's possible to miss her entirely)

5 is the first Persona I've seen though where the trailer actively is hiding party members. 3 and 4 were pretty clear about who would be joining.

To be fair it's fairly obvious who's gonna be the next victim the instant they appear in game for the most part. Even the party immediately figures out Kanji and Rise are gonna be targeted.

It did kind of ruin Naoto though since she actually is around for awhile before getting tved unlike Kanji and Rise who get tossed in 5 minutes after you meet them.

For Golden though they were pretty much assuming everyone had played 4 Vanilla from the start, based how marketing was all about the new stuff and nothing from the core Persona 4 game itself.
