IS's 'literally everything you did over the course of the game and now it never even happened' ending is completely unsatisfying if it has to stand on its own rather than lead to EP.

And, y'know, EP was the only one of the duology to get an official english release on the PS1 so it's what introduced a lot of people to the franchise in the first place.
