Your artillery can fire down their line and you can have hammer and anvil ready to be sprung along with their commander starting off isolated.

Empire rework is planned at some point.
First paid DLC is 4 Legendary Lords all with unique start positions
May get the good lighting engine some day but it's apparently a huge performance issue
Skaven crumbling will probably be removed with enough negative feedback

I got a USB full of assets I'll try my best to convert anything good into webm's or gifs next week

Surveying his skin cloth campaign map for the last time, Malekith knows to be ever weary of the roving tribes in the north; and also not to be ignorant of any ambitious dreadlords.
Word has reached him that his mother has marched south without order, it is of little consequence, though the rumour that she has resurrected her cult of pleasure is troubling.

On Ulthuan his spies report that Tyrion is engaged with another cult, taking advantage of the conflict could allow the Witch King to establish another foothold on Ulthuan.

Further south where the shifting sands of Araby blow, it has been reported that the servile men of the Asrai have conquered swathes of land, the riches of this land could well aid Malekiths coffers if he chose to wrest it from them. Though another rumour, perhaps untrue, but not worth ignoring is that a hold of the ratmen is situated somewhere in this land.

Finally from out of the land of Lustria little has been heard, the most valuable pieces of information being that a notable lord of the lizardmen is currently fighting human settlers by himself, it could be advantageous to eliminate such an opponent as swiftly as possible. As for the other piece of information, it has been heard that the whoreson Teclis is leading an expedition on the southernmost tip of Lustria, supposing he survives the dangers of the land it would give Malekith great pleasure to have a rematch.

Regardless of where the first strike is made Malekith will control the vortex and regain his homeland. Domination by a best elf soon!

Honestly by the time you take the entirety of the Badlands, marching north and getting Kraka Drak (which will long since be in ruins, most likely) will be easy.

I finally went north at like turn 150, meanwhile Kislev and half the empire was gone to chaos and the Vampires were squatting in their starting provinces.

I had like, 3000000+ gold per turn or some shit by that point, with barely any of of the civilian tech tree unlocked, and 4 legendary lords. If I wanted to I could've pumped out a dozen full stack armies.

I have 15,000 income. I could raise another two or three armies easily, but my forces are spread covering the dwarven cities at the moment, because I'm about to turn on the manlets and quarantine them to the silver road and hopefully vassalize them.

Gonna do the same thing with the Elves in Athel Loren. Take Bretonnia for myself, leave them the forest and vassalize them. Border princes are gonna get gassed though. The fucking problem is that they're allied with the Dawi, and if I declare war, I have to deal with the BP stacks too, so now I'm trying to wait out their upkeep and hope they push themselves in the red, but I don't know if they will, now.

Elven archers, I believe, are fairly cost effective for the damage they can output. Losing out on ranged AP might not be too grand, tho.

Just had a great game in Arena, I hope you all don't mind a long story.

We were losing; outnumbered two-to-one. I got out with one unit of javelineers. Fortunately nobody brought cav. The enemy was split up, with about half attacking our base while the other half was finishing off the stragglers. Fortunately the half attacking our base were all infantry, so the remnants and I were able to keep away and whittle them down. We were still pretty outnumbered, but it looked doable.

The enemy was smart, they were waiting in the forest. Maybe they were deciding what to do, maybe they were waiting for everyone to get in position, or maybe they just wanted to let the timer run down. It was a nice moment where we could savor the situation; which is impossible in singleplayer where the AI just makes a beeline towards you. There was even taunting.

When SUDDENLY, an enemy player popped out of a different forest, closer to our camp, and made a beeline towards his allies. We had all stuck together, so just about everyone was able to hit him. I'm not sure he even got a volley off, but we were still behind with less than two minutes left.

I think what made the difference is they had one more unit of melee infantry than we did. He should have broke cover once the final fighting started. He shouldn't have caught anyone, but he could have forced some of us to move instead of shoot. We could have just shot him of course, but that would have taken the pressure off the archers while they killed us. It was close, but we were ahead when the clock ran down and won the game!

I'm pretty psyched about this game. Having so many people gives the battles an element of unpredictability, and makes them feel bigger than you. Would love to see how battles look when everyone's organized in a clan, and knows not to zergrush. Don't know why they're taking so long though, I was in the closed alpha last year and it's not much different.

I've played a bit of WoT, and more of WoW, and I find this better. Having three units to control instead of one, and ten players per side instead of 6-8, makes things more interesting. It is grindy, but even at tier 1 there's a lot more variety with each faction having two options instead of one, so it's not as repetitive.

The Romans have solid, all round infantry with two pilii, and javelin skirmishers. The Greeks have defensive infantry and archers. The Barbarians have fast infantry that hit hard but are fragile, and light cavalry.

I know six different types doesn't sound like much, but I find the simplicity allows you to enjoy the challenge of position and timing, which are the soul of tactics. Each faction has a new line to unlock at ranks III, IV and IV, while the Romans have slower, tougher Armored Legionaries starting at rank VI.

I hope it gets popular on /twg/ when it comes out, it'd be great to have a clan called "Understanders of Strategy".

What unit is that? I know it's a bodyguard., I don't know the name. I do not want to promise anything because I've done that too often, but I am still trying to get down to finish it all. Going to work on the building recruitment next. I remember complaints about bodyguards so I am thinking they would be scaled down severely in numbers - on ultra 220-240 for infantry but merely 120 for bodyguards on foot and 80-90 for cavalry. Also a hit to their HP.

But no, I've posted here in the past I just have had trouble getting back into the swing of modding. My lesson is not to try and do big projects in the future.

The big problem for Attila was CA really went in this odd and messy approach to units and stats and upgrading. For one it removes the neat and tidy UI feature of unit tech unlocks. Tech doesn't tell you what units it unlocks, only what unit is replaced by what unit. A check on Honga and it looks like it was fixed up from release because I remember units upgrading into worse versions or changing identities (Foederati become Auxilia Palatina which become Legios which become Auxilia Palatina regiment which become Legio regiment). And I really hated the replacement approach to upgrading. It meant instead of having Aux-Pals and Legios together you'd be going randomly from one to the other.

And if someone is curious land units for norse/celts are done, main units are 'done' but I want to go back and change the unit sizes across the board in one fell swoop (so you have bodyguards not being able to 300 like that), building unit recruitment is a doozy but I will do that in the next week. It's just a pain in the ass because the barbars recruit from every kind of building instead of just city centers/siege workshops/barracks. After that then it's unit abilities, unit priority for recruitment (easy, just one column), technology requirement or technology unlock, a few other things I am forgetting. But land units is always the biggest pain in the butt with building recruitment following it.

It's probably the foot bodyguard for the WRE then. Making a note but taking down the HP and halving unit sizes for bodyguards should help. Building changes I don't really like to touch buildings and I'd go mad having to do it for the barbars, so I just play within CA's system. I'm going to emulate what I gave for the Germans for the Norse/Celts. The one thing I did that I have to reconsider is the Roman trifold military recruitment. CA had it infantry/cavalry/archers, I had it Limitanei/Comitatenses/Palatina but every other faction gets generally 2 buildings or so for the lion's share of recruitment. Actually the idea that comes to mind there is admittedly there is one last thing I'd like to do for FOTE before I'd officially finish. Some kind of very light auxilia system, based off the startpos that Swiss Halberdier and I did and added AOR for. Will explain next post.

Swiss and I added in a bunch of unit resources for AOR. There's no chance I've the willpower to see through to an extreme EB tier of auxilia. But I can see something based probably around the AOR Ethnic with a few local exceptions.

-Designate a building to represent in name and short-description to represent collaboration or vassalage of the local notables and lords.
-For migratory factions (Non Persia, Rome, Huns because pure nomads cannot use AOR) there are various restrictions on what units are available anywhere (no AOR) and which are tied to their homeland. Try and keep it simple. My view was low tier units are AOR restricted, mid-high tier are not. So as a German faction you lose access to lanciarii Germanorum (t1 spears) in Spain. Richer warriors migrated along and remain a warrior aristocracy so you can recruit Ambacti and Comitati still.
-Devise a simple, sweet, formulaic roster for each ethnic region:
>German conquers Roman territory. They gain access in that building line to some kind of: Levied farmers/peasant spearmen, skirmishers, maybe slingers. Semi-professional spear/sword/bow representing foederati, numeri, ex-milites, retainers of local notables. Medium cavalry representing the same. In Spain/France you might then get unique Bagaudae guerillas. In Syria/Eastern Anatolia you get Isaurians as elite peltast style infantry.
>German conquers Berber ethnic territory. This overlaps with some Roman ethnic territory. So you get the Roman auxilia, but you also can recruit berber light cavalry and berber skirmishers.

I meant to say persia, not non persia. Also there might be restrictions for Persians/Romans too. I don't know what it'd be. Rome could have elites being AOR restricted and low to mid tier not. Persians probably would resemble the migratory except with more units restricted. Basically only your nomad (kord), cavalry aristocrats and foot retainers are universal. Territorials like Caucasian axemen, Adurbadagani and so on wouldn't be.

Thus a German army replenishing lost units in Spain is going to start to look a bit Romano-Germanic and in the Maghrebi be Romano-Germanic with a bit of berber in them. Most of your units are still Germanic, but you lost men and have 6 spots open. This is a newly conquered province so you don't have the infrastructure to get the juicy Comitati. You have money, so you just recruit 2 berber cavalry auxilia, 2 berber javelin auxilia, and 2 Roman ex-milites units.

I'm not aiming to burn myself out again so the goal would be to keep it simple and formulaic. Something like "each Ethnic zone has 1 levy spear, 1 levy skirmisher or slinger, 1 lower-middle grade spearmen, 1 lower-middle grade swordsman or archer, 1 light or medium cavalry and one wildcard."

Just the celts, norse, slavs, naval units, mercenaries of those three. The Celt/Norse VMDs (dictate the unit appearance), land unit stats and main unit stats (excluding unit size) are done. Half slav VMDs are done. Unit Cards are all done for celts/norse (That pic previously is some high end saxon unit), half done for slavs.

I did that overhaul for the desert factions back in early 2016, the Sassanids have since been updated too. I'm not sure why it's giving you the vanilla units. I would try one or some of these:
-Delete the packs and redownload them. Run just FOTE and do a test battle, see if they look vanilla or not. It's possible another mod is taking priority.
-If you still have this happening, I'd see if you could download pack file manager, open up @fall_of_the_eagles_0 and the db folder and go down to unit_Variants, extract and upload for me FOTE_DESERT_unit_variants.

If you check in that unit variants file you should see, well, a lot of entries but for example: name/unit att_des_desert_hurlers having variant "_FOTE_ARAB_Slingers_T1_Levy" and unit card "FOTE_ARAB_Slinger_T1".

It's been awhile since I was in the nitty gritty of PFM/DB tables but my guess is if there is another mod that has an alphabetical seniority to FOTE (@ is to place it at the front of the list.) and they have a unit_variant table among others referencing aksum units it will prioritize that mod's over FOTE.

Or you have an old version. This is my @Fall_of_the_eagles_0. It may not be up to date with the latest steam version, so if you run it you may get a CTD. But you can open it up with PFM and compare it to the @ file you have. If you don't, for instance, have tables referencing DESERT, you have an out of date version.

And yeah sorry. I've had trouble getting the drive and impetus to finish it but I am going to do my best to at the very minimum get the norse and celts done. There's no excuse not to because half (or more) of the work is done.

If TW: Sagas is a period amenable to me and it's possible to texture edit or VMD edit I am still going to mod but I am going to do my damndest to avoid anything too ambitious. Either just skins and visuals for someone else's mod or small bite-sized projects. Attila was a great game but the rosters were so convoluted and messy it kind of required doing an overhaul. I am optimistic that won't happen again. I'd even prefer something more austere and bare bones like Shogun 2 or the Empire's State troops because that's pretty easy to build off of. I had more fun working with Charlemagne because CA did such a good job roster wise the only major changes to stats or introductions of new units I felt I had to do were two black soldiers for the Moors and make it so 2 berber units didn't disappear when 2 other berber units were added.

I'm not averse to unit replacement upgrades, but I think they should only exist when a unit type was well and truly replaced - think Polybian to Marian, Marian to Imperial. I don't think unarmored hoplites (or berber spearmen) should cease to exist once you access their armored version.

In an ideal TW it'd be on a unit by unit basis. Remember how they changed appearances back in medieval 2? That was dope.

I decided to subjugate the Elves, first.
It took some doing, and a lot of coin, but I managed to convince them to vassalize without raising Athel Loren, so they could keep their realm relatively unmolested.
The good news is that the vassalage treaty has pretty hefty diplomatic bonuses. The bad news is the military action malus is going to take about 40 turns to wear off. I think they're just being tsundere, the Elves will love it in my Empire, I promise.

Now to see if I can pay the dwarves to end their alliance with the Border Princes so I can absorb them into the Empire, too.

For MP funds, we want to look at the most cost-efficient units in each role.

The best use of points for a general is a VC lord, if lore of vampires is healing all our troops. If not, we may want Todbringer or an Empire General on a Griffon.

Forsaken I think are your best non AP anti-infantry in the game, and perversely Foot Squires might be the most cost-efficient for AP infantry.

Wild Riders are pretty amazing cavalry for light cavalry stuff. Demis with halberds are hard to beat for the actual cavalry scuffles.

Access to the Grail Reliquae is big, so we'll take it. Chaos Warhounds with poison will round out the army.

Range and artillery is sort of for scrubs so we won't run any, but if we did we'd want starfire shafts, doom divers, rock lobbers and dwarf cannons
