And I use 3-5 obelisks with optimal stats in all 3 slots as placeholders. It helps remind me what stats they need when I do find or make a proper obelisk that fits them. And occasionally, it actually makes the character more balanced than a 6* obelisk with one or two optimal stats.

I think the "problem" is a matter of internal vs external rewards.
Sure it's neat to build up every character for the sense of accomplishment, the feeling of accomplishment by using different characters in WB or SL.
But there's no real push by the game to do such things. There's the co-op play levels which increase with the player's roster, the crystal achievements for getting a character to lvl 50 and 60... but not much outside of that.
The prime exampl being recently added SL floors 26-30. Shit external rewards but somewhat satisfying internal rewards to complete all the new floors.

Archangel, Gambit and Psylocke are likely 3 of the 4. The fourth is probably Iceman or Colossus. Yeah, there's plenty of C/D-list options, but NM has a lot of catching up to do when it comes to the X-men so they don't have the luxury or not going for A-listers like they do for the non-X updates. When it comes to which horsemen they pick, I imagine they're given plenty of freedom to pick looking at who other games had. MAA used Iceman, X-23, Rogue and Beast for example.

I was wondering what to do with Mordo (Max SCD and Def Pen from Cards/Obelisk/Gears) and then I thought maybe I could go with a double dodge/damage increase obelisk because of his T2, same for characters with Guaranteed Dodge (Spider-Man, Yellowjacket, etc).
