Corrin suffers a lot from being a passive protagonist. He doesn't causes jack shit to happen, he virtually takes no decisions after the split. Stuff happens to Corrin and he mostly goes along with it.

For instance: Robin devised the tactics to invade Valm by kamiza-ing flaming votes, Corrin was told to sail by shit and meet some ninjas.
At the end of his game, it turns out that Robin rusemaned everyone and had the stone for himself and prevented himself from turning into Grima by keeping a dead man alive. At the end of Conquest and Birthright, Corrin is forgiven in a dream sequence which somehow superpowers up his sword.
Robin has the brand of Grima, but he denies his powers to stay with his friends. Corrin mysteriously turns into an almighty dragon, then the Yato literally flies to his hand, he didn't even picked it up.

Robin's issue was that they quickly become the most important person in the game and the plot starts to revolve around them. Chrom should've stayed the lead, with Robin playing the tactician sidekick like the early chapters in Awakening.

Ike is a Mary Sue. Most Mary Sues have "faults" that arent really faults. He is a more modern Mary Sue in a way. They always make one character who hates them for no reason really. But Ikes ignorance on things that are common knowledge is his fault that gets people to like him, as with the case with Sanaki.

I hate Ike for other reasons. Mostly the fact that he is just plain boring. Ike doesnt really do anything wrong without real consiquences. His "faults" are what people are won over on or love him for. Ike also never seems to really be too attached to anyone. He just kinda floats around without having a good friendship or real bond with any of his army.

Meanwhile, Hector is a similar kind of type of lord and he happens to be my favorite. Hector has plenty of flaws they get pointed out a lot by almost everyone. But Hector steps up and you see growth in him, he see him step up from the brash young man who wonders off during the middle of conversations to someone who willingly picks up Armands. Who comforts his best friend while silently moarning the brother he knows is dead, he starts acting like he should and you see growth. Ike is just stagnent, Ike doesn't change really from the Ike in the first chapter and that is just boring. Ike is safe and bland. Sorry for rambling.

I agree with you. Hector is perhaps the only well-written Lord who is not idealistic and competent at the same time. My only problem with him is how much they force him and Lyn together. PoR!Ike is fine, he's just a different take on a typical FE lord. Its RD!Ike where he gets bad. Ike's development as a character occurs in PoR, and then he shows back up in Radiant Dawn and then never develops. This makes sense, since he went through his development in the previous game, and doesn't have to be a dynamic character anymore, and can be a static character. The problem arises when he remains the main character, taking away from Micaiah's potential development. Micaiah, and Elincia too, have potential for development, and yet they both drop off a cliff before the end, in favor of Ike. It'd be like if Jotaro shows up in Part IV and takes away the spotlight from Josuke for the rest of the Part, instead of being a supporting character.

Furthermore, what's bizarre is Ike could have remained a dynamic character in RD but instead they opted to not do anything with him. First off, the Ike at the end of PoR seems different the Ike in RD. There's a timeskip so there's presumably some offscreen stuff, likely to do with him giving up his lord title. However, its offscreen and it isn't discussed as to why Ike became this stoic stonewall character, which he wasn't quite like by the end of PoR. Also, Ike makes the decision to leave Tellius and this is only brought up in the ending of the damn game. There's no explanation for it, though we can assume it has something to do with not feeling comfortable at home anymore, or wanting new challenges. Still, it isn't developed in the story, when it easily could've.

Also, I don't how any Ike fan could stand seeing him suck Zelgius' dick after their duel the way he did. The Ike that I think people know and love would have just killed Zelgius and let it be. This is the guy who murdered his father over some dumb petty reason, and also threatened to rape his sister. Its not like Ike knows Zelgius' tragic backstory. Ike's the guy who calls out bullshit and pretension. Wouldn't any Ike fan want to call him out for killing Greil?

The next Fire Emblem game should let you choose between three personalities; Kind, neutral, Asshole.

According to /feg/ polls, people tend to prefer the Blazing Sword formula, where you HAVE a self-insert that you name, but they're never seen and only have fixed dialogue that you never hear.

Literally just do that, but give them a customized avatar and make them a Merlinus-esque unit that basically does nothing but tactics and carries the convoy around. yeah Effie works just fine. My strat is usually to use Amelia to tank shit then let my +atk Effie just absolutely murder the fuck out of everything. There are 2 very important things to know with armor march. One is that it completely ignores forests, which allows you to attack enemies in ways no other unit can. Also, since the buff is applied at the start of each turn, like a hone ability, dancers allow armors to fly across the map and instagib opponents.

I just think the way they force Lyn and Hector together is a bad way to make Lyn relevant after her story. I really liked Lyn's Tale story-wise and I thought she was a very interesting character, nothing groundbreaking but she was pretty well-written. She got sidelined after that and they tried to do this to make her relevant but I just don't like it. I wish that they let Lyn and Eliwood interact more, and I don't even ship them. The FE7 trio just feels a bit awkward after they force Lyn/Hector into the story, I personally feel.

To be honest it'd be nice if Sacae was more involved in the story. I wanted Lyn to have more prominence as a rep of Sacae and not just randomly tag along with Eliwood and Hector.
