Expansion seems pretty excellent so far. New tilesets are nice, but sometimes a little wonky. Assassinating an advent general in a sewer as he desperately runs to his evac point to be airlifted out of the shitter is a bit odd. Game is still a huge memory hog and even though the framerate is perfect with everything cranked, my RAM is too reedy and it gets crash-prone unless I turn shit down. New mechanics seem pretty fun.

The only downside is now I have to wait for porn pictures of the Chosen. Maybe porn of the stalker chick and the ayy lmao defector during that mission, too. "Oh you dirty ayy keep your genetically enhanced penis away from me" "I cannot help it, the elders bred us to become turgid at the scent of a swamp pussy and living rough in the ruins for years has left you most pungent" *Bond increased*

Also I ended up with the best rookie. Nuthugger short-shorts, an open ratty military shirt with a couple shoulderpads with feathers sticking out, and the X-com guile hair with a big bushy beard. Looks like a skanky hobo from the first war out of retirement to shoot some ayys. Was my favorite the instant I laid eyes on him and I am confident he's going to go the distance.

Help!

I'm trying to figure out which mods to disable to prevent crashing on startup. I have everything but cosmetics and voice packs disabled, but I'm still crashing.

Yes it is and it's one time use. Same with Banish for the Reaper. Make sure what you are using it on is worth it. Battle Lord takes a lot of planning to make work well as well as assuming where enemies will move to on their turn.

While she is normally on the ground, you didn't roll an extra damaging thing on her which would have made early encounters a joke. I got Brittle, so every 3rd hit on her makes her take +3 extra damage. Combine with weakness to Reaper and she gets fucked hard.

It's a little bit harder then I remember when you first start out, but after that it's nothing. I'm destroying everything. Assassin and Hunter don't really seem that scary, just idiots that don't know how to fight them and freaking out at everything they do, or engaging them in areas that aren't favorable.

Three times so far I have fought the Assassin and every time I just reveal her when she does her invis shit and then dunk on her. It's sad.

I actually have a problem with the Assassin if she spawns really far, I use battle scanners to reveal her but then she's usually out of my LOS so when it's her turn she does a mad dash and fucking crits one of my guys. Can't even overwatch trap because she has shadow step.

You just have to pay attention to your surroundings more. Watch for open doors, broken windows. If you think you won't be able to engage against her when you reveal her, then you should back up and wait a moment. A full dash away and she can't catch up. Now she's a blue move away from you and in usually an even worse position.

Doom is excellent, but like the other anon said if you've waited this long you may as well wait another month or two. It'll absolutely be $15-20 or better during the winter sale and it'll likely go on sale before then.

Expansion's pretty great too. No idea if it's still $30 at GMG or not but if you're in the mood for some Xcom 2 it seems like a bigger leap forward than Enemy Within was for Enemy Unknown.

I can personally confirm these are all bullshit. I have had multiple turns where I killed ayys and nothing bad happened to me later or where I landed OW shots after killing someone or watched them miss all their shots after shooting them a few times. This is confirmation bias on your part. Do this: record literally every single turn for a dozen missions and see if your theory holds true. When it doesn't, come back and let us know (post the records too).

There is. It's an RNG roll to be sure you don't become overpowered. The devs couldn't into programming difficulty in xcom 2, so instead of bullet sponges, it's timers and RNG.

All Chosen are immune to flashbang by default. Jake thought it would cheapen the game if you could disable some of their abilities and give them shitty aim for a turn. Also don't forget that immune to overwatch extends to suppression. While it might give her the aim debuff, it doesn't matter, her sword literally can't miss.

As for fighting her, you need to pay attention to your positioning. Spread out when she shows up, it usually takes a turn or more for her to get to you, sometimes less depending on if it's a very small map, or if you have progressed into the map using stealth. I suggest NEVER doing that if you know you are in her territory. Her suddenly appearing right on top of you is the worst thing that could happen. You need to be able to back off if you feel it's a bad engagement. Dash back where you came, so you know you won't run into a new pod. Her Dash is about 1.5 times greater then yours, so if you know she's in the area and you run, she will be a blue move away instead of a yellow. This means you can hopefully flank her and this will reveal her and let you kick her shit in before she slashes you and flees. Hopefully you have enough power to be able to kill her in one turn.

Oh shit, I haven't seen them summon normal troopers yet, just finished Blacksite mission.

So guys, what was your starting continent bonus. Mine was DOUBLE AGENT. I sometimes get Advent that spawn on my side. They are amazing and they benefit from all Dark Events. Got vigilance going? Random Advent sees farther then you do. He can shoot at enemies out of your normal sight range and they won't react. Venom, Dragon, Needle rounds? Extra aim? Rookies only if you need to field them. Build Resistance Ring as soon as you can so you get Covert Actions. Sending Rookies on covert actions is pretty safe in the early game and always promotes them. Most Covert Actions you won't want to send your good soldiers on unless you get a good reward from them, like extra health or hacking.

Problem is ai seems to sort of ignore them when they are in low FoW, and in later missions the resistance fighters seem to do more damage. It's even worse if you save the initial group of fighters, because they will group up with the next group and just merk the berserkers with several 5 damage hits that rarely miss.

Fatigue means you can't use your best guys all the time. The reaper's kinda bad once it can't go into stealth anymore/has no explosive options atm.

Templar's are great unless they're in a position where they can't do much due to their inferior pistol, they can't overwatch with psi bolt.

Skirmisher's are the most "plain" among them so I'd say the biggest weakness for them is that their abilities have a lower (as in, most Templar/Reaper specials always hit) chance to hit and will still go on 5 turn cooldowns after a miss.

I love that Whiplash damage. With the Ionic Ripjack, you deal 12 fucking damage. Who cares about Combat protocol with that shit. Only problem is whiplash can miss of course. But man as long as you get up in their face, it's almost always in the 90s.

Using Mox to jump around and grapple in the early game is so good. Spider suit users wish they were this mobile. I've had him grapple someplace, Wrath, stun that fucker, pull someone to him and stun him too. It's crazy how powerful he is if you just stop fucking turtling with him.

No, when you start a new game there's gonna be a check box says integrated DLCS, uncheck it then check the DLCS you want to play in its base form. If you integrate you get the AH weapons and SPARK in the proving ground and to proc the ruler you have to destroy their facility, if you don't but don't check it Alien rulers spawn randomly but you can get the weapons for like 10 supplies each and your first spark is cheap, if you check the box you get the DLC in its base form but you get the WOTC changes.

That's why you start to build them so they can ALWAYS remain stealth. If something fucks up and you don't kill, then you have your emergency button, then you have your claymore and you set up an easy kill with that for another chance at stealth, later you get even more claymore, so more chances for stealth and the grand daddy of them all. If you kill from stealth, then it doesn't matter what your reveal chance was, you remain in stealth.

Build your Reaper for crit, they get a natural +3 damage on all crits, pick up Blood Trail, they should always be trying to finish off hurt targets that just manage to get away. Eventually they just keep critting for 9-11 damage, have shit loads of AOE and are the best scouts the game has to offer.

Reaper=Templar>Skirmisher

Reaper is great long as they stay stealthed. Whats great about them is you can just run them way the fuck ahead of everyone and you arent afraid of getting caught because the radius for reaper is so small. One you use up your 2 stealths though theyre just a sharpshooter but pretty good.

Templar is great since theyre basically a blademaster, just run up hit niggas, run away/parry. Using them to tank a hit is awesome, their electricty ability sucks dick though, atleast for me right now it does, I see no reason to use it since its not going to kill shit. Only issue is getting into range, but just give them a mobility PCS and youre fine.

Skirmisher is so underwhelming. You can fire twice, amazing! or pull niggas but it can miss. Having the grapple from the get go is nice, but still being able to fire twice is shit when you need to reload so often due to 3 shot fucking gun. I pretty much just use him to go on covert ops or whatever.

Any illusions I was good at this game have safely been neutralized. I cleared my first mission effortlessly with zero casualties, so I went into the second one full of confidence.
The skyranger landed next to a farmhouse, and infront of a barn, and also next to the UFO. At Night. The fucking aliens took out my front row on the first action, which was tossing a smoke. Then about 4 aliens walked off the famrhouse roof and ONTO THE WINGS OF THE SKYRANGER. Two more aliens came out of the barn infront of my and started hosing down the landing ramp. I lost six men just getting out, then I finally managed to flatten the buildings and proxy mine the UFO door. I lost four more dealing with the fucking gremlins hiding on the wings, and finally managed to clear the rest of the map. At this point I've only got four guys left, so I park them in a row to the side of the door and wait. I'll mention now that the survivors just so happened to be my scout team so they're all ~60 reactions and have laser pistols, just to put what's about to happen in context. One comes out and gets mined, and a few turns pass. Then I hear a sectoid walk to the door, he opens it, turns towards me, walks forward a few steps, executes one of my guys point blank, one reaction shot misses him, and then turns around and walks back into the ship. Having proven the firing line is worthless, two of my guys panic, and one goes berserk, turning around and shooting another in the face several times. Now I know I'm fucked, and I end the turn expecting death. I hear the door open, several footsteps, and then nothing, my turn again. I turn around the previously berserked soldier and he's just fucking standing there doing nothing. One shot and he's dead, mission over, 12 X-Com casulaites. On the SECOND FUCKING UFO! Then right after that a terror mission happens, no time to even get more rookies.

You also have to hope that the priority enemies happen to take cover around those explosive objects. Not a guaranteed thing. Sure, you can wipe out an advent trooper but you might need that shot elsewhere against a more demanding target.

Except you get it ages before you get proxy mines or any other explosives that do that kind of damage and it doesn't break concealment. It's a powerful early game tool, wiping a pod instantly without even breaking concealment is very good for any sort of timed mission

The point is that wiping out a pod when you have pinpoint knowledge where they are is trivially easy even without nuking them with a single use explosive.

If you want to use the Joinrbs Alpha and Breakdown style ratings, Claymore is great for wiping out a pod, but so is a rocket. In a breakdown claymore is a very mediocre single use item that requires multiple actions to make use of, while a rocket is a single use instant attack.
Claymore's only speciality is that it doesnt break concealment. It is powerful, with AP system you have rangers that can enter concealment on will. And your reaper can enter shadow as well.

Also the point about Proxy Mines that apparently escaped you is that the Claymore is similar to them in that people gush about how "WOW YOU CAN WIPE OUT A POD WEWEWEW" but in reality you could do that anyways trivially easily without spending those resources.
Its flashy but mediocre. Using a proxy mine + grenade to take out a pod is a waste. So is doing the similar thing with Claymore. You do not need that, since if you know where the enemy pod is you can often engineer situations where you wipe them out on the turn they reveal themselves anyways.

Updating LWPP to WotC won't be enough, its gonna need a rebalance specifically because of Skirmishers.
Skirmishers are essentially Firaxis' take on LW Infantry/LWPP Rangers, if LWPP isn't rebalanced to accommodate this one will nullify the other.

I'm playing on Beta Strike and Permanent Dark events on Commandy/Ironman, currently researching elerium and having built most of my buildings
Still, I'm not sure which of these events are the highest priority. Supplies are not much needed right now, but getting Plasma later could be a problem since I already permanently lost my Black Market
On the other hand, ADVENT troops are less and less common into the mid-lategame but since it's harder to kill them immediately I should maybe prioritize Viper rounds.

So far I'm a bit disappointed with the Lost, they're such a cool concept and I'm a sucker for 3-way battles but their AI is so basic that it's a simple % roll on who they attack, I think base game is like 70% XCOM and 30% ADVENT, there is a mod on the Workshop to make it 50/50 but still

Why can't they swarm whoever is on lowest health or closer to them. hopefully there will be a mod for it

Hair mods seem to work still. I found the augmentations mod works too, but only the cyber arms have textures, the holo limbs don't.

Voice packs are all FUBAR until whenever. Can't say on weapon mods.

is it just me or does NOT enabling the Lost and Abandoned mission make the game 10X harder?

sure you need to play through the bullshit over and over again but the two times where I did without Lost & Abandoned I had a Chosen on my 1st retaliation mission whereas if I enabled Lost & Abandoned there was no Chosen on my 1st retaliation mission

I see the game is still one turn anal annihilation of Aliens or get anally annihilated by Aliens. Most of the pods I meet die in 1-2 turns, if encounter goes longer than that, It usually means that my guys start taking obscene amounts of damage, get outright killed or fail the timed mission. Next time I actually met her, she attacked me when I was busy with alien pod + lost swarms, now that was some fucking carousel of "nothing personnel kid" with 3 dead operatives. I also like suicide like AI of Aliens
