every 10 string is preset. there is no deviation from the the first hit. so if it starts with 1,2, then it will only be that same 10 string every time. if they have another 10 string, then it has to be from a different starting attack. sometimes the attack is completely unique, like jin f+2 starts his 10 string and does absolutely nothing else of worth.

Some launchers, at least. On higher levels it's probably quite rare, but it's still good to know your frame data.
And speaking of frame data, Paul's df2 is safe on block, which means you can just throw it out pretty safely. Although it might not seem like it, Death Fist is punishable.
Also, I'm bad at properly testing this shit and too lazy to do your homework for you, but it seems to me that DF 2 tracks somewhat on (your) right, unlike death fist.
So overall df2 seems to be more versitale, and less risky move compared to death fist.

I know that, let me rephrase the question. When I ask if 10-strings ever change, I mean between games. Have King's, Hei's, Jin's, etc had the same 10-strings since the PS1 games? Is it common or uncommon to see them change over the years? Basically what I'm trying to find out is whether 10-string knowledge is legacy skill or not, because the idea of characters getting new ones in every game and having to relearn them all sounds really annoying.

Oh trust me I know, I've severely toned down my death fists and I'm winning way now because of it and saving it for punishes mainly or if I wanna create space and know I can get away with it.

Did not know that it tracked, need to test that out. I'm more than well enough aware that death fist can be side stepped trust me.

Thanks, I'll try and incorporate it more because my go to is way too often b+1,2 which is nowhere near optimal damage or if I know I'll hit it then Death first. I'll start throwing it out more often when it's safe and add it to my mixups when conditioning them with lows.

the thing about df+1 vs deathfist or most other powerful mids paul has (qcb+2, qcb+1, qcf+3+4, ff+2:1, etc) is that df+2 will only launch on CH or if the opponent is standing. so it's not a mixup tool, it's basically a frame trap/whiff punisher up close. usually you will do something like backdash, df+2 (catch them pushing a short ranged button like most jabs). or sidestep, df+2 (catch any linear move).

for a similar but unsafe tool, there's his shredder kicks/hopkick. same startup, -13 on block, linear (i think), but added low crush and launches no matter what kind of hit. so it's a more committal mixup tool. the thing is, deathfist's speed after inputs is 13f, and the pushback can make it hard to punish, and not mention the speed makes it hard to react in time to actually get the punish, and if they miss their punish, you have an opportunity to punish them instead (assuming they actually tried to punish).

My friend and I spent a couple hours just watching the ending movies from previous games, including all the TTT2 ones. My friend has played a couple Tekken games before as a kid but this is my first one.

It really made me appreciate the cast more for the most part and actually think of them as characters rather than functions. I still fucking hate fighting against Law and Paul but at least now I know they're entertaining and endearing outside of the match.

to step any move you have to do it generally as soon as or very soon after it starts up. if they start the move later than when you started to step, then it will track you, even if it's a linear move like a jab (re-aligning).

the exception to the latter is if they're doing a crouch dash and then a delayed move out of it. like paul deathfist. if he delays the deathfist itself and lets the crouch dash go through most of its animation, then the deathfist will whiff if you started a step during the crouch dash. a similar thing happens in full crouch. your character just doesn't re-align while they're crouching.

Leo is great for beginners. God like basics. (extendable 1,2 string top tier df1, amazing d4) she has a hellsweep, and a hopkick, great df2 to catch whiffs, mid mid elbow plus on block into mixups and ch launches, simple but immensly effective wall game and oki.

She also comes with 2 stances so you can also learn about the stance side of tekken as some chars have them and some don't. Hers are amazing. Simple and effective.

For punishers she has 1,4 to punish from 10f-14f. 15f she gets a launch with df2 so u can ease into punishing. 1,4 is +5 on hit so mixups after words.

She has a great ws4 to punish lows with, and a launcher at i16 with ws2.

She has a roll dash

Easy homing moves with df3, bok3, and qcf3+4. Df3 and qcf3+4 are safe mid and wall splat in addition to homing. Bok3 tailspin's on normal hit and is +9 on block so a free mixuo afterwards

She has simple combos. One combo works for 100% of launchers. And wall combo is w! B1,4,3,4

She's great for beginners good luck

i was just saying that it might be less frustrating for you to switch to another character, if you're getting upset about it. it's mostly your fault that you're losing, but it's a little bit because your character isn't as straightforward as most characters in the game.

you can also stick with Raven if you want, you can and should be able to power through with her given time. but you might have more fun and learn faster with an easier character. Leo, Bob, Jin, Lars are all good choices, but really you can pick most of the roster aside from like Nina, Yoshi or Lee.

beginner characters are just ones that are more straightforward for a new player to understand and execute their gameplan. raven's gameplan is a bit tricky to execute because of the way her moves work, particularly some key moves leaving her in back turn, which is a very awkward position to be in even when you know her moves in back turn. even playing her a simple offensive poke or defensive whiff punishing style will yield this same problem.

the thing is, if you switch to raven later after playing a simpler character, then you'll have to figure out how to deal with these situations even then. so, if you're really frustrated and having a really hard time learning the game system and basic universal stuff because of raven's weird mechanics, then consider switching off. but if none of that is particularly a problem, then stick with raven and continue learning.

like i said, you can play her simple and straightforward, and it will work very well, it's just that screwing up with her is more punishing in certain situations.

Average reaction time: 250ms / 15 frames
PC Input delay, vsync off: 60ms / 4 frames

So 19 frames min reaction time?

But you don't react to the first frame of a move. You have to wait until you recognise the startup animation as a low. Which makes every low variable reaction time even if they were all the same startup.

Consider steves PAB d+2 that looks like an overhead mid but is actually a foot punch versus bryan's snake edge that put's him into a unique crouching animation very early.

Also to consider: Stick latency, monitor latency, if your match ping is higher than the input latency (I think this is how it works, any ping latency is hidden in the input latency as long as you dont go over the input latency)

Learn when to duck and sidestep. Lee players tend to be spammers.

More specifically, you should duck the second hit of his f+2,1 and the last hit of his 1,2,2,3 (or whichever variation of this he uses, just duck after the elbow and launch him). Lee players literally never use any other moves except for his low kicks into the mid which is launch punishable.

If he starts trying to get cute with dumb shit like hopkicking after the elbow, hit him with a 12 frame punish instead of ducking because the elbow itself is unsafe as fuck as well.
