This isn't the Invitational Edition, but there's ANOTHER invitational to announce. /hoc/ League, which will be a weekly divegrass event that will last about 10 weeks (with a break for the Autumn babby). 8 IRL teams with comfy memes, aesthetics, goofy tictacs and an all-around low-stress environment. Each week will start about 3 hours after cup time (only 4 matches to play each week) unless announced otherwise (this may happen because of work schedules). First week is the 15th of september and the playoffs will like be December 1st.

The main ideas are 1) to test out a league format to see how people like the process 2) have /hoc/ fun (this has nothing to do with the /sp/ general though) 3) test some new height rules + 80-all two-card keepers and 4) have EVEN MORE divegrass. Stop by for some comf :3

I'm not saying it's a love machine and a vigorous exchange of views has always been part of it. I'm saying it doesn't exist as a bullying platform by design. People choose to use it that way, but that's not what it's "for," in the same way you can bludgeon somebody with a frying pan.

Part of what made heated exchanges permissible on 4chan is the fact that people were anonymous. You can't really attack a person when you know nothing about them, so you can only address the posts you read. You can't even be sure the anon who wrote one post is the same anon who wrote the next one. By the same token, when nobody knows who you are, you can't really feel bad about how they reply to your posts. In the case of the cup, many of us are no longer anonymous due to the requirements of the cup. Normally, when you talk to somebody "face to face," certain social restrictions come into play for good reason. Nobody talks in person like they do here on 4chan. The problem is, not everybody in this thread is visible, only a portion. So, people abuse that dynamic by using anonymity to "break the rules of engagement" that would normally apply when talking to somebody in a non-anonymous environment. It creates a toxic culture where people are obsessed with who is posting what and where being a visible participant in the cup puts a target on your chest. I've never been told to kill myself, go fuck myself, and all the rest more than when I became a manager. It sucks. That shit adds up over time, so I hate seeing it happen to someone else.

I guess just remember there's a human being on the other side of the screen.
