Wanted to revisit this from last thread.

Iga said that he was inspired a lot by Shadow Complex, and he wanted to do seamless dynamic cutscenes in a similar way for Bloodstained. Hand drawing those kinds of cutscenes is extremely time consuming, so 3D is way more cost effective for that approach in the end.

However, LZ and other indies have shown that high res 2D can be done within a reasonable budget, it just depends on the scope of the work and the talent of the team. LZ and their contractors are very skilled, so they're able to draft out ideas and test moves in game relatively quick compared to a lot of 3D stuff. We've seen how unfinished frames can be super sketchy, but still give us a pretty clear idea of how attacks will look in the game.

And although 3D might be cheaper in some ways, you can see how those advantages still don't do any favors for a number of games.

Even Iga's had to juggle three different companies at this point in order to reach their current progress on Bloodstained. Yet, arguably, they still haven't managed to nail down a visual style as cohesive as what LZ's been able to do in a similar span of time.

So yeah 2D and 3D have their ups and downs. Just depends on the project.

My personal theory is that Lamia and the Great Mother are essentially same person. The Great Mother either simply being a title pushed by the religion, or the Great Mother being a divine incarnation of the human queen Lamia.
I think that both Double and the skullheart are fragments of Lamia that were created at as some point. Eliza's story implies the two share consciousness to a degree and Beowulf's storymode implies that like the skullheart, Double if killed, will respawn. Double's own storymode also starts with her eye (presumably) opening and revealing the same skull shapes in the iris as any given Skullgirl's.
The two being pieces of the shattered queen's body and mind, and both carrying out her will in different ways.

Hand drawing cinematic supers is incredibly expensive, so you definitely won't be seeing them from LZ. Just look at how much energy the Beast's Fury guys wasted from trying to do those cinematic finishers.

And typically they don't even add much to the experience. Stage transitions in Injustice are probably one of the most worthwhile uses of cinematic attacks in a 2D fighter, and even those just become time wasters after seeing them a couple times.

The effort to make new assets for the transitions might as well be put into making new stages.
At best would be like the bathhouse stage in Marvel 1 where a wall breaks and widens the stage, but that can affect gameplay as well.
