In Long War? Yeah you don't want to be tanking alot of those shot, and if you don't have the right gear, enemies have opportunist and can crit you (but there is a vest to negate crits). Furthermore, there may be multiple overwatches, which the tanking power comes even more in handy for.

No, they aren't actually in the ship. That mission is confusing as hell, it doesn't end once you incapacitate all the enemies. Just kill or knockout (preferably KO) the two or so enemies on the map, and then stuff them on your ship or that ship and evac.

In XCOM 3, you play as the Aliens trying to take over the Earth. In XCOM 4 you get kidnapped and XCOM 2 was just a simulation of what would happen if you were a human Commander and had to retake a homeplanet that wasn't yours.
XCOM 1 is canon if you fucked up in XCOM 3. Then the simulation in XCOM 4 is glitching and you wake up as a Fireaxis employee who wants to fug a snek.
The DLC flips the narrative and is about an EXALT terrorist leader waking up from a simulation.

I haven't been keeping up with all the videos, but the impression I've gotten is that alien rulers *only* get reactions in WotC, and no actions of their own.

When combined with their adjusted rules to only get reactions on units they can see, this would mean that alien rulers out of LOS are unable to react and inherently unable to proact. This isn't a technical error - it's an oversight, and one I'm very surprised Firaxis didn't see coming.

I think the main problem is that his current Templar is only a squaddie, and thus doesn't appear at the top of his soldier-listings. He probably keeps forgetting he exists because he doesn't immediately see the class when he opens up the barracks.
It really sucks compared to back in EW, when bringing along at least one squaddie on a mission was pretty much mandatory.

Also no, unfortunately they don't get any XCOM skills. They should be fine with what they get though. Being able to shoot three times with overdrive is pretty solid since they can get better aim now. Their health and armor is also better, so they can actually tank now and probably what has always been the best part of them, they are mobile cover and Advent still loves to use them as cover if they can.

The difference is that you can't retreat or just sit tight overwatching. You have to keep moving foward. Use concealment to double dash safeley as long as possible (ie, when you hit your first pod) then wipe that pod.
However, the timers should be more flexible with the new expansions missions.

Flashbangs are extremely useful, shotguns are still your friends, marksman are still good but they are not the gods they were in XCOM1.

The lose condition is letting the AVATAR project finish. Keep unlocking regions towards alien facilities, and advance the story as necessary since story missions and objectives push back avatar progress.

However, keep in mind that lots of things are going to change with the expansion, so things are going to be shaken up for a bit, and the perfect answer won't immediately be available.

They should have released an optimized game in the first place, they had nearly a year and a half to fix even some of the issues in the game but didn't fix any of them. The loading crash is still a thing for a lot of people if you check the discussion boards. What if the game never got an expansion pack? Companies can't spend all the time in the world fixing these things. If PC was a more homogenized environment, then maybe. But even one thing different in a machine can be the world. They also have to keep to the whims of their publisher and 2K is a cruel mistress. If Firaxis could self publish, then yeah, I would say no excuse. But didn't fix any issues? I had micro studders and when loading levels the game would hang. Last performance patch fixed that. Some issues are just harder to fix because of the disparity of hardware and issues having the possibility of being greater then a simple code clean up is capable of doing. It sounds like they had to do a complete engine rebuild. So no, if the expansion wasn't being made, it wouldn't have come out. Because Firaxis still has to answer to 2k when it comes to dedicating resources. My troops just let entire over watch ambushes go without killing a single ADVENT, they absolutely cannot take more than one Sectiod at a time or they just get ripped apart, unless the Sectoid is like already within ultra grenade cheese range. Sharpshooters are basically a -one man detriment still. I keep failing liberation mission by like one turn, because they simple do not hit things even at 70% or above flanked shots.Or I get a reinforcement dumped on me the turn i need to finish the objective, and they MAYBE manage to scrap one troopers armor.

Did LW2 add the over-watch penalty back onto aim?

I don't really see the problem with meme beacon. You throw it out and basically negate two enemy rolls.

You could always just, not use it. I personally don't like using the Alien Hunter Weapons. So I just don't. I don't even like the Alien Hunter DLC in general, I think it's badly implemented and basically causes auto-fails for any turn based mission that a Ay-Lord shows up on.

I guess for people that want more of a challenge, why not make mimc beacon into a device that only works on "dumb" enemies, like zombies, Lids and maybe droids and turrets.

It makes sense for a game that is supposed to be more geared toward hit-and-run, get in and get out, to have some sort of distraction device.

Would be cool to have a LOS smoke grenade, but I'm sure people would say it's too OP, because they'd just generate LOS and lob nades over it with shinobi spying. The game is only as cheesy as you choose to make it.

I try and have maybe my sniper go for the sectiod and maybe someone who's out of grenades, or a shotgun do a close range overwatch, and cheese the finish with grenades.

I just keep having shit happen like: Okay sniper, time to be useful for once, you are on this roof, you've got a 91% chance to hit this sectoid, and a 45% crit, all you need to do is and amount of damage- SHOT FAILED TO CONNECT. Okay, we got them down to one Sectoid, the 87% melee shoudl - MISSED THE TARGET, that's okay we have a backup here, we will just move this guy into a flanked 89%% GAH IT'S STILL UP! It's like they want to die.

And then my mission goes to absolute shit.

On top of it, a Zombie being raised and taking a missing swipe at my gunner caused a pod in complete darkness to activate for no fucking reason half way across the map.

Maybe I'm just shit, but I have to bail out of like 50% of my missions right now, and Sneks are only just starting to show up. If three Sectiod show up, I want to gtfo as early as possible.

I can't imagine how fucked I am when Mutons and Flying guys start showing up. Sneks alone I've managed to get lucky and kill early. No constrictions yet, but I know I'm going to come up against like 3 sneks and just get raped Thinman style.

I just want to know if maybe LW2 isn't for me, I'm not in the pits, my stock of soldiers seems pretty healthy, but we just don't win much anymore. We have no killing power.

So right now, I'm doing a custom mod for a human-cyborg race.

I'm down to 15 soldiers, 10 of whom aren't wounded, I'm in like my 3rd or fourth month and haven't managed to "Liberate a region" yet. I keep getting fucked on Liberation missions. I'd missed so many 90 or above shots that I barely view shooting as a real option when a 97% basically equals a 50-50 and 50% shots are basically misses.

Am I fucked? Do I just not have enough autism for LW2?

You can take losses yes, but by your 3rd or 4th month I would expect you to either have liberated or about to be liberating your first region. Losses are expandable when paired with progress, and I'm not sure you are moving forward enough. If you feel like you can still make something of your campaign, that's up to you. That's a difficult question. With wotc you are looking at the third content xpac wth new gimmicks. Further the basic game will get patched day of wotc, so some features might be included anyway.

How do you recover from bad luck? I just went on a mission with 5 guys, 1 is gravely wounded and the other managed to not get hit at all, but they're only rookies. One was a corporal, the other 2 were squaddies.

I had upgraded my armor so that everyone would have move health, but it didn't even matter. My guys were being hit constantly (even behind half and full cover) and even being critted. But almost any time I fired back, I would miss (even on shots above 60%).

I needed the rookies and squaddies to be leveled up so I took them on the mission, but now they're dead and so is one of my better guys. I need the higher level people because I cant just keep using my best guys because they keep getting wounded. But every god damn time I bring in new people, they just keep dying. My bad luck is going to stop me from progressing forward and eventually make me lose because I can't keep up with the enemy because they just whittle me down.

Dont get shot. when an enemy gets to do anything other than scamper on reveal, things have gone wrong already.

-Dont dash. you can never know what will be revealed (even on territory you thought you had sight of), so having 1 more move left to deal with it is essential. You can always double move if you need to cover distance, but try to never straight-up dash it in a single move.
-dont use half cover unless absolutely necesary
-always assume the shot you take will miss, so make sure the soldier will be at least in (full)cover against their target if left alive, and theres at least 1 more way you can take that guy out with an another soldier
-try to always remove cover by blasting or flanking. If all you can do is shoot at eneimes in cover (with less than 80% to hit), its usually better to find something else to do (like hunker or overwatch instead)
-get psionics with stasis asap. getting that andromedon out of the fight while you mop up its buddies saves lives
-if things cant get worse, do everything in your power to reduce incoming fire next turn: if it takes 3 soldiers left standing in the open to kill 6 enemies, leaving only 1, or possibly none by the end of the turn its more than worth it (IF those kills are nigh-guaranteed (95%+).
