That sprite Hills game has an entirely appropriate number of scenes. Sure it's not a long game, but it doesn't need to be long.

While I'd love a super in depth and expansive sprite hentai game that goes into detail like Sprite Hills, it's pretty unreasonable to expect it given the fact that it is so expensive and time consuming.

Besides, there are plenty of games that just have a bunch of sprite loops and such, it's like the most common thing in action games.

CG's aren't for everyone ether, I like using more imagination sometimes, and a still CG that doesn't change well with the scene is much worse then a more simple sprite animation that lets you fill in some details.

Oh definitely. I enjoy it when it's stuff like Rio Action, Dark Star, or Barrage!!.
As an example of when I dislike it, think of games like Rune's Pharmacy where there's great CGs, but every non-boss enemy just has a two second loop of four frames. That time coulda been spent sketching up a chibi image of that sex, it could have been used on a new CG scene, etc.

There's a mist door earlier in the game I can't get past either. My moon is pretty much non-existent, so I figured maybe I needed to get all the collectibles in the level to open it. Still didn't open. Also when I try to level up my character's stats I get stuck in the level screen and can't exit out.

I found it kind of annoying that the enemies drained your health during sex. I get the purpose, but the animations were so simple, and usually just one animation per enemy type so dying just to see one felt kinda bad. The girls that'd follow you around and occasionally molest you and drain your stamina in doing so were implemented much better because stamina was a useful stat. Of course they offset that by having them also heal you when molesting you so it wasn't really a bad thing.

Never managed to get far because I kept losing interest because of a few mechanics even though its obvious a lot of effort was put in to make it good.

Stop thinking that because one thing gets added to a game that something was cut or removed or ignored. CGs need a good artist to make (since most people who want CGs want nice looking art and not something zurine), just as sprite work needs a good sprite artist to be good. Thing is, there is little overlap in the skills needed to do both, you can't expect someone who can do sprites to also be able to do CGs and the same is true the other way around. They could hire someone to do the art they are bad at (or learn to get better at doing that kind of art) but that adds extra cost and extra dev time, and not a lot of these circles are that big to be able to afford that.

There's nothing wrong with a sprite-only game per se. The whole video game history proves it (although there were technical limitations in the past).

However, a sprite-only porn game is a failure because it fails its first and foremost purpose - being fappable - and fails it especially hard if it's 10x10 or whatever is the default sprite size in RPG Maker. VH is a bad example, it has never had proper budget in the first place. Its budget is time.
