There was a similar situation in NA qualifiers too but I'm too lazy to find it. Basically the gist of it is that Player A runs the map for 15 minutes but can't really make a serious because he's on a light character and will die if he's too aggressive.
So player B just casually sits close to choke points most of the time. It becomes even worse if he's Nyx and can effectively run indefinitely.

Both times the player out of control won the round despite not getting a single item, great game eh?

Breh, I have 3000 hours in tf2. I didn't say I had trouble killing them. I am a legit pro at the game and used to speedrun the hardest jump maps.

Man...

I feel fucking sad that Q4 never took over Q3's dominance as "the competitive quake" back in the day. If only the game didn't have such an awful launch and the players of the time weren't so stuck in their ways, QL would have been a Q4 revamp instead.

Crouch sliding is just way too much fun. It allows you to do what CPMA-style air control does, but without it being as powerful as air control. It forced players to consider their positioning if they wanted to keep speed around corners and I feel like that makes it so much more satisfying than the more straight-forward mechanic of A/D or W air control. CSing and Q4's smaller duel maps gave Q3 the boost of speed it needed without going balls deep like CPMA did: It found just the right balance of speed and positioning that a game like Quake deserves. Nowadays, even in QC where champs like Anarki and Slash have outright more powerful and easier to use movement than their respective CPMA & Q4 counterparts, playing super conservatively in duels is the norm and so are large duel maps.
