>>186113860
Other than the more obvious pieces of a pilot's gear, I wonder what all the pockets usually hold (pic related is not a good example of the sort of suit I'm refering to.
It's for drawing and design purposes, I want to be able to draw pilot suits without forgetting elements.
>>186114501
Speaking of that gear, someone needs to tell me where the oxy hose connects to. It's aircraft fed, no? Where does it plug in, while not getting in the way?
>pockets
My best guess is the survival stuff, pilots carry quite a few rations and all for when they get shot down. But I'm sure there's more.
The only other thing I can guess is that you'd probably find something on the upper leg to hold notes, maps and stuff
>>186114501
That looks pretty antiquated, and it's not a great picture.
The yellow thing is probably the inflatable vest in case they end up in the drink. Modern ones are designed differently to try and force an unconscious pilot into a face up position, they don't go as far down the chest are are referred to as inflatable collars.
The pill bottle on the pilot's upper right is probably a strobe light. If i remember correctly, newer ones are self activating when immersed in water. Obviously the knife is the knife and the gun is the gun. The knife is positioned for easy access in case you need to cut the chute lines. A parachute in the water will get very heavy. The grey bit is the survival pack with radio.
On the legs a pilot wears leg garter restraints, and the G-suit "chaps" that will automatically inflate. Typically they will have a clear pocket for a map. A red light is typically carried so as not to ruin night vision when using it. Normally a grease pen is used as well.
>>186115839
>Speaking of that gear, someone needs to tell me where the oxy hose connects to. It's aircraft fed, no?
Depends on the aircraft. On the F-15E for example, it attaches from the right sidewall of the aircraft near the emergency manual chute handle, and connects the the regulator on the end of hose. The hose hangs from the mask exactly as pictured, and the aircraft feed hose connects to it.
>>186114501
Well, for Navy pilots the gear usually looks like this:
They wear a low profile floatation collar, which you can see around the neck. On the front there is an oxygen regulator in a bag, where the hose to the oxygen mask ends. Extending from that bag, an oxygen regulator is installed, where the pilot can regulate the oxygen pressure under the mask. On the left you can see a flashlight, with a weapon in the pocket next to it (most likely not 100% sure). On the right, you can see two pockets containing survival gear, such as a knife, a carabiner, a two-way radio, painkillers, a whistle, a signal light, a bottle, a text in multiple languages, a small rope and some ammunition. I'll get a picture of that posted as well.
>>186117454
Here it is.
>>186117041
>If i remember correctly, newer ones are self activating when immersed in water
That is correct. At least it is a requirement for civil life vests, and I doubt they changed much on that front for the military.
>log into infinity to see if it's ded yet

>>186117041
>>186117454
Sorry about the quality. It's an early 50s flight suit. Pic related is from the sixties, in case you spot things that were added between revisions, but I think you two covered just about everything. Thank you very much!
A couple additional questions:
Would a pressure suit be able to be used as a G-suit too (or at least adapted for that)? Would a mechanical counterpressure suit be usable as the sort of pressure suit worn by pilots or is the later usage of term misleading me?
(I come from a mostly space-oriented background, so I sometimes wonder if I'm not mislead by false cognates)I will not discard not thinking straight due to being sleepy, that said.
>>186117793
Or let me clarify it's a european requirement for sure. No clue about FAA or ICAO, but probably too, shit's all similar anyway.

>>186118231
A pressure suit by itself wouldn't be able to function as a G suit, as a full pressure suit exerts pressure evenly on the whole body to allow respiration. A G-suit works by restricting circulation in the lower extremities so that blood is not able to pool there during positive G situations. You could wear a G-suit underneath a pressure suit.
The more brownish coverings on the legs are the parts that inflate.
>>186118231
>>186118740
Also, a G-suit inherently has a partial pressure suit component to it to assist in breathing.
>"(2) Demonstrate an acceptable understanding of speech as determined by audiometric speech discrimination testing to a score of at least 70 percent obtained in one ear or in a sound field environment."
holy fuck i barely make it dont you fuck me biology
>>186118740
>>186119076
A pressure suit maintains even pressure by "inflating" itself with air, have I got that right?
A MCP suit maintains pressure by pressing against the skin, technically being an unpressurized suit. Would having areas that can adjust pressure to simulate a G-suit sound reasonable?
Sorry for asking theorical questions more fit for near-future speculative fiction discussion.
>>186118363
Guess that means everyone in this general wont be able to become a pilot
>>186118231
Well, a pressure suit is mainly there to keep a low pressure (such as the vacuum of space) away from the body. A g-suit is usually made of very tight trousers that inflate when the pilot performs high-g maneuvers, which presses blood out of the lower parts of the body and enables a steady stream to the brain, which prevents a blackout. Typical g-suits just apply pressure to the legs and the abdomen, high-g suits also apply pressure to the lungs to enable better breathing, thereby increasing endurance even further.
Kep in mind that g-suits can't enable a human to withstand more g's, but allow them to withstand higher g's (8-9) for longer.
The only way to increase the g-limit of a human is via liquid breathing, but that sutff's not even in a real prototype stage yet.
>>186119618
Thanks for clearing those points up. Isn't it preferable to lower the pressure around the lungs to allow breathing, though?
>liquid breathing
Now that I think about it, I never went into that rabbit hole with my ideas. I don't think I will since I imagine waterproofing all the instruments would be bothersome to say the least. For COFFIN cockpits, though... Too bad I don't use those, it's like a match made in heaven: mind-machine interface, high G resistance and sensory deprivation tank to eliminate any input noise.
>>186119457
In my understanding, in a full pressure suit, the suit is pressured with air to simulate an environment of higher pressure (lower altitude) to allow proper respiration. Above ~8,000m you enter the death zone, where there's not enough oxygen in the environment to actually sustain human life for an extended duration, there will always be a net deficit. You can breathe pure oxygen to combat this, but at about 12,000m you need to be breathing pressurized oxygen. At a certain point, the disparity between the outside pressure and your internal pressure means that respiration is impossible.
I don't know what an MCP suit is, but theoretically if it had isolated sacks of liquid or air that could be controlled by a g-valve, then yes it could function as a G-suit.
>>186120264
The idea I had concerning suits capable to apply pressure selectively mostly stem from the VOTOMS pilot suit, shown in the Pailsen Files to have "wiring" bellow them to interrupt bleeding, pic related.
Mechanical counterpressure suits are the irl counterpart to the sci-fi skintight suit, only actually working.

>>186175180
Here's hoping AC7 doesn't get delayed further to mid-2018 at the soonest or late-2018 at the latest with Kono saying the arc words "please understand".
I beat AC4 and started 5. Couple questions:
1) at any point does the carrier reload mechanic come back? I keep running out of missiles. I suspect I'm meant to use the fuck out of the wingman system.
2) Good God, why aren't there checkpoints? Getting through two phases of a mission just to accidentally crash or get shot down only to start from the very beginning is a serious demotivator.
Other than those two things I'm enjoying the game. The flying feels a lot more responsive than 4, though so far the music hasn't quite been up to par. I'm only at the mission with the carriers rendezvousing in the strait though.
>>186189762
I think there's at least one mission where you can reload. The soundtrack gets better.
>>186189762
>at any point does the carrier reload mechanic come back
It doesn't, unfortunately.
>>186189762

>>186189762
Running out of missiles is normal in the beginning, just get a new plane and you should get enough missiles to carry out the following missions.
Don't rely too much on your wingmen, they're pretty much retarded in this game.
>>186190164

>>186189824

>>186190164
And they say this general is dead. I will say that running out of missiles isn't the catastrophy it would be in 4 since the controls are improved enough that one can reliably shoot planes down.
I haven't been wanting to trust the wingmen because the missions have largely been <<protect the fucking ships>> which makes me sweat to trust a PS2 AI with.
>>186190668

Really? I thought 5's soundtrack was a substantial improvement over 04's. 04 always bums me out with its weighty gameplay, dead environments with muted colors and more atmospheric music. While not bad things persay, I feel the combined execution makes for a tiring experience.

>>186201353
honestly I'd be fine with giving trigger a face just so they don't have to keep framing cutscenes like this and as long as he didn't talk I'd be fine with it.
I never really got into that whole 'I have to be able to relate to the protagonist' thing so it wouldn't bother me.
but yeah if they did it like this I'd be fine with it.

But if you're playing mission 5, then you must have just finished mission 4 (first flight, where you protect the island from an air raid), which has top three music in the game
>>186203402
That's actually a question I've been asking myself of late. I don't think anyone outside of Chopper (jokingly), the Belkans and Oka Nieba referred to you as the Razgriz, even though there was a whole cutscene dedicated to your reformation. The Razgriz Air Command Squadron was the President's personal squadron iirc. While they served directly under the President, Pops was their commanding officer.
It would have been nice to hear them as Razgriz 1, 2, 3 and 4.
>>186202991
Well, that and the fact that placing the cannons there would most likely interfere with the variable wing sweep mechanism
Tfw Wardog/Razgriz's signature aircraft is the F-14 because Kono's favorite aircraft is the F-14 and Kono directed AC5
Tfw without Kono it would probably be the fucking Raptor again
>>186208559

Mine tend to follow a "like an aircraft, use it as a model" approach (requests not taken into account for obvious reasons), so tbqh it looks to me that your approach is better, or at least gives results more fitting for the context of the aircraft. I don't think I would be able to decide which design elements are better suited most of the times, though.

At some point I should read stuff again. I'd still like to figure out how to get around giving a good estimate of what a design can do. I mean that push pull will obviously be stupidly fast, but the wings are also huge, but I can't tell if it'd be good at turning or holding it's energy at all for example.
The thing I can tell you though is that a lot of general aircraft design is "take something that's worked for your particular task before and go with it"

>>186213728
It very much depends on what age the plane is based on. WW2 jet engines were terrible, so maybe not stupidly fast. Shortly after WW2 engines improved however, making the plane faster. The design is pretty big and if it's completely made out of metal, it will also be heavy. I am not sure what it's armament is, but I would guess 4x20mm and a 30mm in the nose. Armament weight is usually not a big issue, but has to be kept in mind. The wings don't seem overly huge for this design, but they do look like laminar flow wings, so high speed maneuverability would be a thing. That all depends on the overall weight though, if it's very high, the wing area to weight ratio might not be good, which drags maneuverability down.
>>186216705
Tl; dr: Depending on the year it was produced, it would be fast, especially in a dive, it's overall climb rate wouldn't be very good, but it could pull a good turn at higher speeds (it wouldn't keep up with a true turnfighter however). Boom 'n Zoom will be the most effective tactic.

Oh I was talking about the twin prop variant. The jet one was a fun experiment because some Anon wanted me to do that. Regular oldsometimes VC tierWW2 tier tech though, there's no setting or anything associated with this thing, it doesn't even have a proper name yet.
>Size
I scaled it down quite a bit from the initial designs, it's now only slightly larger than a Mustang, perhaps the same size as a 335 or Jug
>Weight
I'll have to make a proper guesstimation at some point fuel and engines are gonna mess it up pretty badly. Then again that will help it with the inertia
>laminar
I'd have to check, honestly the wings on most of my models are just really simple airfoils that can be made easily, it might be though. Could probably adjust that now that you mention it.
>bnz
Well I was at that too, for obvious twin engine and size related reasons. The real questions is generally if it suffers from 190 syndrome or not. But yeah the general gist of it would be to 190 it.

I think your plane will most likely be a heavy fighter in it's role, even though it's only marginally bigger than a P-51, it will weigh a lot more and it's heavy armament makes it perfect to hunt bigger targets and do ground attack missions. It will be effective against fighters, but most of them will be able to out-turn it. It really depends on the weight and engine power to see if it is limited to BnZ, or if it can perform regular energy fighting as well.

UGBL are probably Mk84s, of which the Mudhen IRL can comfortably carry 5, with a possible maximum of 7 but I've never seen a picture of that being done operationally.
GPB are probably some sort of smaller LGB like a GBU-12 or other PGM like a GBU-38. If they're GBU-10s, the Mudhen can carry 5, GBU-12s to a maximum of 9, and GBU-38s to a maximum of 7.

Just put some where it's sensible. I'm not saying my prop is the best example right now though, because it just has a bunch of random ones.
Your best bet is to look at real stuff. It's usually where parts intersect and where there are access hatches. The engine or guns for example. Also heavily depends on how a plane is constructed or what from.
>>186311441
It's IL2 1946 stats though, they are a bit better than IRL stats IIRC, it's also damn old. Still fun to toy around with every now and then.

Between the F-16, F-4, F-15, and F-14 I probably have about 2-3k total photos and it'd be a pain to scan even a small fraction of them. It'd be easier for me to just scan them on demand.Plus the thought of just scanning books wholesale doesn't sit well with me.

Interesting. 3.9m GBP in 1974. In 1977, you could get an F-15 for ~5.9m GBP or an F-14 for 8.2m GBP.
>>186314749
Go to Settings - Tools - Developer tools and check "Save new textures" box.
After that load the game and go anywhere where the texture is loaded(mission, hangar, etc).
Then you can find them in ppsspp/memstick/PSP/TEXTURES/gameID/ new directory (in ACX case ID is ULUS10176).

During the course of its 14 years at NASA Dryden, it had flown 251 missions, adding to the total it had amassed over its entire 35-year history as a flight test aircraft. In the letter I plan to adress, the need of a remake of 4, 5, and 0, since they were a huge hit on PS2 and gave publicity to AC. Also, to include features of AH such as DFM(Dog Fight Mode), and an option like halo Combat Evolved Anniversary that you change graphics from old gen to new generation graphics. My email is [email protected] . I plan to take the initiative to push the project aces to remake the the 3 Ace Combat games that made Ace Combat popular.

no.the main reason standard TIEs are shit is because the empire hardly trains their pilots and the ones that are good either get promoted to better craft or desert because they're not insane enough to fly an interceptor.
5 more days until Gamescom. Hopefully there'll be new trailer, gameplay footages, and lots of new information about AC7
>>186372667
Well also because the TIE is more of a swarm thing than anything else. They should've kept the V-Wing design
That said they got their fair share of kills on A-Wings in Rebels so there is that.
>>186373226
>rebels
that's really more of a case of the show misrepresenting the craft for the sake of the show.plus early rebellion pilots were pretty inexperienced themselves.besides, you can't take rebels seriously after:

>super fast
>mini deathstar laser
>>186373806
I can because it is just a Pixy'd up B-Wing and I like that sort of silly shit and becauseit's canon
The twin seat was a bit pointless and oddly placed, should've just suck the two of them in the cockpit, but you know, prototypes.
I think the thing about the A Wings in Rebs was that they are still the shit variants, prior to being retrofitted into way too fast rebel suicide machines.
But yeah Phoenix squadron has some garbage pilots too. Hera should've probably been put on instructor duty more than anything else

I agree, the cruisers would make great bombers, but I have the feeling that since they're diplomatic cruisers someone would go "muh birb of peace". Also imagine having a diplomatic cruiser mistaken for a bomber.
The NB-1S is fitting for a light bomber or attack aircraft, though.
>>186378537
Would've replaced the outboard engines with heavy cannons or something though. Or perhaps a quad engine layout but with all engines the same size, like on the cruiser. Those tiny ones look a bit out of place.

Weapons Base Assault, yeah?
You should probably stay away from that mission for a while, try playing Paris Liberation War and B7R Dogfight, those are good missions.
The exact scenario you explained is one of the reasons why I usually recommend new players stay away from AC:I, the equipment gap is just too damn big.

>>186383592
What planes fo you have at the moment?
>>186384510
Were I home to load it up I'd tell you, but beyond that one ADFX it's all largely conventional stuff. My current slots are an F-16 with 4AAM, an event F-35, a Tornado and whatever that one crazy swedish plane with the delta wings and the fat air intakes is. Which isn't to say they're the best things I can field.
>>186385134
Alrighty then, if I were you, I would, for now, stick with the Paris Liberation War, B7R Dogfight and Moscow Battle missions, those are pretty easy to handle. What's your matching rate?
While it has been hinted that Bamco has targetted AC7 to be released before the end of March 2018 according to their financial reports, is there any possibility that they might delay it to further than that?
>>186385236
Dunno. This isn't a game I've really invested time into working out all the mechanics, more something I'd load up off and on, do some missions, and put down again. Now I have a flight stick that's changing, but the fact of the matter is I've been playing since the first year and am maybe halfway through the tech tree.
>>186385581
>playing since the first year
Then you don't need me to explain about matching rates and all that shit then. Like I said, I would just stick to those easy missions til you get some good dosh, then you can upgrade your stuff to put you on more equal footing.
>>186385134

>>186385776
You got it. Was gonna post a pic but I guess we're at image limit.
>>186385682
Well that's kinda the thing, this is just a game I'd load up, do some missions and put down again. I don't really know the deeper mechanics beyond flying, buying and blowing up planes.
>>186386225
Ok, so you aren't familiar with how matching rates work and how they LOVE to buttfuck you?
so is the screencap of last night's shenanigans not happening?
>>186388186

>>186388575

>>186388098
I understand it raises or lowers on win rate, but how does it fuck you?
Can Super Etendards engage in dogfights?
>>186389029
It's a good indicator of a whale, and it fucks you by not being an accurate indicator of skill, despite what the game claims. For example, let's say you have a 6 man room. The lead scorer scores 60,000 points, and the lowest scorer scores 59,000, with the other 4 players placing somewhere in that thousand. Typically, at the end of the mission, the lead scorers MR will increase by 5-6 points, and the lowest scorer's might lower as much as 9-10 points, DESPITE the fact he was scoring just as well as the rest of the room. This happened to me on countless occasions. I would be the lead scorer on for the entire mission, and then in the last 10 seconds, one or two players would overtake me, and now, despite having scored high, my MR is decreased because I didn't place 1st. That might seem trivial to you but it pisses me off to no end.
>>186389539
Also, I forgot to mention, having a low MR could get you kicked out of Special Raids, because people assume you aren't good.
>>186389159
Why would they not be able to?
>>186389539
Mine must be godawful then, I feel like anything higher than 20k is a good day for me. Never been kicked from a room before though.
>>186389746
bcuz french planes r gay
>>186389764
There are rumors that scoring above 20k is the threshold for increasing the MR, but I don't think that's true.
What you could do is start your own lobbies, and enable the option that only allows players with comparable MRs to yours to join.
Man, I'm glad linking sound webms is a thing.

Better story and premise than ACAH

>>186391353
Oh, well then whatever. I'm a low scoring shitter and I'll probably stay that way.
Honestly, I read the ACI guide up there, and are all you guys playing it that way? With builds for maps and set routes and shit? That sounds terrible to me. I'm just gonna get in my MiG-21 because I like Cold War planes, blow up what I can and have fun with it.
>>186391950
I didn't play it with all that, I played pretty much like you do, just having fun.
>>186365997
I'll admit, it took me a while to love the N1. When TPM came out, I thought it was cool - sleek, sexy as hell sound design and such. But it wasn't the X-Wing. Then many years down the line once I really started appreciating the Prequels I gave the N1 another lookover alongside all other Prequel craft and now it's all good. Especially with the contrasting designs added with TCW. You really get a sense of shifting aesthetic with the changing times.
>>186393207
I always thought the coolest SW ship was theARC-170. Do I have shit taste?
>>186393257
Nah, my brother. GAR ship aesthetic is top of the line. V-19 Torrent, Y-Wing, Z-95, V-Wing and ARC-170 are god tier. Hoping they all make it into Battlefront II, as well as their Separatist counterparts

I'd say AH looks better, I think that was it's biggest problem, the devs thought it looked so good they included that shitty dogfight mode to show off how good the planes look
>>186395613
AC6 has that awful early Xbox360 game muddiness to it.
>>186395613
AH doesn't look better for me. It looks more stylized for sure, but not in a good way. "Make metal bleed." Very gonzo.
http://i.imgur.com/ZYlbRS3.jpg
AC6 had a much more crisp, clean style and look that was focused more on on the planes and the environments than on the action itself.
>>186393207
>really started appreciating the Prequels
My man. But yeah the designs from that era are top tier and give a nice contrast to the more worn and square stuff from the OT

The MiG-21 does have a radome, it just so happens to be most of the way into the air intake. The nose happens to be the best place to put a radar since there's no shadow formed by the plane itself. In the future, we may see a more distributed form of a radar capable of 360 degree detection, but the main cluster of TRMs will probably still be in the nose, which is aerodynamically and aesthetically pleasing.
>>186402281
Doesn't the intake narrow the radar's FOV a lot then?
>>186402558
I don't think the Fishbed's radar is good or new enough for that to really be a concern. You'd just be happy to have a radar at that point

kek, with a squad of Mirages 2000, we'd be just fine
>>186404606
>Mirage
Good choice
>>186402558
Yes. There's a reason why subsequent planes do not use that layout. You have to remember that the MiG-21 was designed to essentially be flown by ground controllers, so it wasn't seen as needing a powerful long range radar to find its own targets.
>>186402709
The MiG-21 is so prevalent, like the F-4, that there's a significant upgrade market. That being said, radar quality is largely dependent on physical footprint, which is quite small on the MiG-21. Off the top of my head, the most modern MiG-21s have a detection range against fighter sized targets greater than equal to a modern IRST when viewed head on.
>>186404538

So, uh
What are the odds of a South American war breaking out anytime soon? That'd surely result in some interesting air action, unless apparently Paraguay is involved.

Here's some (messy) sketches of a few first generation martian aircraft from my setting. C stands for "Caza", "Fighter".
Even in the earliest (timeline-wise) story they're 20 year old museum pieces, so I don't think I will be working on the designs themselves a lot. Jets with no radar (those haven't been downscaled yet), machine guns and UGBs (no guided payload tech yet).

>>186411158
The attacker is mostly based on the YA-9, actually. It's to the A-10 what the YF-23 is to the F-22.
The fighter is indeed an F-84, the E variant.
>>186411229
And here I though it was the weakest of the three! Would you make some quirks to the designs? Maybe I'll soup them up later.
>>186411507
I would perhaps keep the engine sizes the same or just let it be a twin engine, the tiny ones look a bit silly
Alternatively have it be four engine, but cram them onto a single pylon like on the B52 or late Arado designs
The pig nose on the attacker is kinda cute, but also kinda silly. Keep it though, albeit perhaps move the cockpit up a bit/ make the fuselage taller so that the pilot can sit comfortably over the ducts.
Perhaps size up the nozzle on the fighter, it's a bit tiny compared to the rest of it. Keep the noseart on that one though, the Hartmann black rose thing is top tier.
