MAGIC SPELUNK: Final Layer

No pre-layer area. Oh well!
Fairly short and simple layer with a twist: it has a secret path leading to the boos door without even pulling the lever. We pulled the lever just out of spite.
BOSS: HMPH. I was kinda afraid, but he went down much easier than the bloodletting beasts.

Huge thanks to Randolph Carter! Your fashion sense is just as awesome as your skills.

This took much, much longer than a normal spelunk, but it was HUGE fun. This is easily the most fun I've had with a spelunk in a long while. Not only is it more difficult, but also the game itself becomes completely different when you can't use weapons at all, and it feels very fresh.

If anyone's contemplating whether or not to try a tools only spelunk: DO IT. You gotta try it at least once.

So many builds and weapons function so completely differently that playing the same content again feels like playing completely new content.
My first playthrough I was strength and used the kirkhammer and beast cutter. My playstyle revolved mainly around kiting, spacing and baiting things into charged R2s

My second playthrough was bloodtinge and involved chugging bloodbullets and BMA while spamming things down with a repeater, followed by chikage unzip->dodge back->chikage rezip->dodge forward->chikage unzip for the rest.

I've only recently picked the game back up and am now playing a str/arc build. Every single weapon I use now has a fundamentally different strongpoint so every time I swap weapons, I change my entire playstyle. The wheel has an incredible strong dash attack and stacks damage super fast but runs dry on stamina really quick to, so I end up revving the wheel and going in with short bursts of high damage offense before backing off to de-rev and regen stamina. Boomhammer has a ranged attack and a really strong charged attack but similarly bad stamina so it's all about poking and spacing and keeping your distance while avoiding any hard commitment to a fight (exact opposite of the wheel). Tonitrus goes smackysmackey with the fast, low-risk R1 spam, that both of my other weapons lack, and also has a really fast-charging R2 for backstabs. HMLS has those projectile R2s. And that's all on top of having full access to hunter tools.

Every time I've played through the game, it's felt like a completely different game. It's only going to start feeling like a chore if you're one of those autists who unironically beats half the game with a goddamn saw every time you play, and always plays the same way.

I can't seem to find that Rune. It wasn't in layer one, and I got an Undead Giant that can jump for a boss. Glyph is px7kim9 and pass is giant.

Funny how you keep getting Gehrman telling you to ascend to Oedon Chapel, way after you have. You also get that note in the house when he's gone saying the same. It's interesting, I didn't really pay much attention to the hints of where to go when I first played it, but replaying it it's interesting how much intruction it actually gives you.

Gehrman's whole role in the game is to be the 'here's where you go next' bot.
The idea is that his role is clearly defined so players who don't want their hand held can just not talk to him, while players who want handholding have obvious access to it.

Well, it's not a HORRIBLE build, but VIT softcaps at 50 and so do the damage stats, so you should have gotten SKL to 50... also you're going to want at the very minimum three 19.8% gems from those lanterns. Better would be the Winter Lanterns at the end of the DLC, and ideally you'd get through the chalice dungeons to grind top tier gems. All is not lost though, this is a salveable build.

Yeah, it's one of my favourite things. I think it's because learning that you could do that in DS1 was a breakthrough moment for me. You could learn about bosses, dying on them didn't matter. I can't remember if it was this way in DS1 but in DS2 you became human again and got all your shit refilled too. Made the game a lot more bearable on the way through.

Talking of co-op, what bosses actually get harder from co-op? I mean, in DS1 it made Four Kings harder, I recall. I think Manus too. Especially if we're talking NPC summons, and Sif with Manus.

Any cases of that in Bloodborne? At least before you get overlevelled and it's just a rape train riding over the boss.
