It's similar to the gameplay flow of Persona games. If you've no idea what they are like (like I did until the case started), it's basically Psychonauts in that the end goal is to change the target for the better by going into their mind and defeating their inner demons. However, unlike Psychonauts, not all of the things you need in order to progress are in the mind. The targets have real world connections, Persons of Interest, who carry secrets needed to complete their mission. Players switch between delving into the "palace," the mind of the target, and real life, where they collect information from POIs. There is a pseudo time limit(, ironically enough); the game takes place over the timespan of a few days to supposedly a month, limiting the number of actions the players can do.

The current format is great for Chronos. It has to be manhandled greatly for single sessions.

Even if we suppose battles can take 1 minute, if you have 2 mobs everyday you have spent 40 minutes on it by the end plus a few more minutes for bosses.
It is, at least to me, more time than necessary on battles.

Standard trials in AO have a structure. the defense tries to prove the defendant innocent by listening to witness testimonies and pointing out where they contradict the evidence.

There's either a not guilty if they're successful or a guilty if they're unsuccessful. Additionally the judge and prosecutor keep the defense in check so that they couldn't just ask the witness questions endlessly and/or present every piece of evidence until it works.

In an AAI, the investigator interviews witnesses on the scene of the crime to look for discrepancies in their actions and to finger them as the culprit. Again, using evidence to point out contradictions or holes in their logic. The detective and rival serve as foils that keep the case moving and can end it if the investigators are floundering.


But in the take your heart format, where's the equivalent? Almost everything is a roleplay, except the combat, which is determined by dice rolls and arbitrary stats.

What exactly does it mean to get the "treasure" of someone? Where's the opposition? What's the fail state? Running out of time? That's horrible game mechanics.

Well "getting the tresure" basically means you win. While you don't go through witness testimonies, sometimes you'll encounter a wall in the boss area (There's a locked door, there seemingly a dead end, etc.) that can only be cleared by dooing something in the real world, like getting some info from a specific person, although for some reason, this wasn't in the first case I don't think.
