There's Tocky (the turtle one you mentioned), but turtles are often exempt from the general image of reptiles.

That said, there haven't been many reptile badniks either. Newtron is the most famous (although named after an amphibian), but other than that there was an alligator badnik in Sonic 3D Blast and a crocodile badnik in Sonic Lost World.

I guess this whole setup is written to emphasise that Metallix is the hunter in this situation. Thinking about it now, setups like this just made Metallix that bit more awesome. Even the heroes have to hide from him. There's a lot you can do narratively to influence the read of a character without getting them to figuratively bend iron bars.

It was originally going to be, but that was changed early in development. Heroes' team mechanics sets it apart and other games like 06 or even Shadow more resemble an Adventure game than Heroes does.

Heroes, 06, and Unleashed are ALL Adventure 3. At early points in development, each of them were conceptualized as Adventure 3.

Unleashed was when they finally realized they had to move on and try something else, and thus the side characters were mostly set aside, and focus on speed was amplified.

You can still see remnants of the Adventure mentality in the collectables and Werehog gameplay though

Adventurefags just dont want to admit it though, but those three games are all the successors to SA2. Sega is never going to make a 4th successor just to give fans the "TRUE SA3".

FACT: With Sonic 06 being an intended reboot, it makes a lot of sense that Unleashed SHOULD have been called Sonic & Knuckles.

The Werehog levels should have been Knuckles instead.

Doing that, rather than abandoning all the side characters in favor of a werewolf gimmick, would have made Unleashed one of the fan-favorite games to this day. The Werewolf gave the game a HUGE negative stigma, but just imagine if they designed the adventure-style levels around Knuckles instead?

Not all walls are climbable or put in some form of ledge/overhang that's too steep for Knuckles to climb, either that or make use of the glide and make the objective based on exploration like in Adventure. One thing that frustrates me with the "06 is SA3" argument is that you get ridiculed for not thinking it's Adventure 3, and yet everyone is fine with Sonic 4 not being the "true" Sonic 4 with Mania and all. To me I would only consider a game to be a legitimate sequel when it succeeds the game prior: it fixes issues, expands and/or innovates and holds some visible progression; 06 in failing to achieve this makes it in my eyes as much as a sequel to SA2 as Sonic 4 is to 3&K.

Evidently Sega doesn't. It's your problem if they reject your letter, so even if it's a no-brainer issue, you need to be crystal clear about it.

The thing about Adventure gameplay, and why it isn't coming back, is because of the sense of speed in a 3D enviornment has now been defined by boost gameplay.

A big thrill and selling point to Sonic gameplay, is the sense of blistering speed you can get. I've seen people say that boost gameplay can feel like a rollercoaster, and to that I say "No shit!"

People don't control rollarcoasters like go-karts, they love the sense of speed you get as you and thrusted through setpeices. This has, as much as you might hate it, become a very popular thing that people actually LIKE about modern Sonic.

Thanks to Generations overwhelming success, it is also now what audiences expect of Modern Sonic. Sega is finally understanding brand consistency.

Look at Lost World, their last attempt to slow things down again, and how it flopped hard. Then they went straight back to boost.

I'm sorry, but Unleashed was the catalyst. You don't just make a really solid game where Sanic goes FAST, like REALLY FUCKING FAST, and expect Sega, or the mass audiences, to be okay with going back to slower, clunkier early 2000's platforming again.

I don't think Lost World's failure should be a reason to never go back to it again. Lost World was too different. It had different gears of speed instead of slowly gaining it by running like both Classic and Adventure Sonic. It had no momentum whatsoever. The levels were all extremely different to anything else in previous games and extremely gimmicky at times. Literally the only two things Lost World has in common with the Adventure games are that they're both slower than the boost games and they both have the bounce bracelet. That's it. That's a very poor excuse to disregard non-boost gameplay.

Yes, I've already accepted that this will be Sonic for a good time to come. But the majority of 3D games haven't been consistent enough (sans Boost) for me, so 2D games it is for the future. Thankfully there are plenty of fangames I haven't played yet, so things are still good.

i'm straight so i'm guilty of it too, you just kinda gotta be aware of it. it shouldn't make you uncomfortable to be told a fictional character is gay after they're introduced because short of a character being debuted with their sexuality at center stage (such as one of the one-note girlfriend characters like Saffron) it isn't something that's just gonna be listed in their profile, so you ought to expect it to go either way. you can still have an idea that's different from the people writing them, and that's fine. ultimately you can just call any gay character bi until the end of time and you're basically never gonna be called out for it or contradicted by the story. everybody wins.

Thats the thing though. I'm not straight. I still acknowledge that straight is the default, both in media and reality, and there is nothing wrong with that. I don't want to see friendships turned romantic just for the sake of it, because friendship (especially same-sex) is incredibly undervalued nowadays.

Look at Finn and Poe in the new Star Wars movies. Can't even have a friendship without people clamouring and demanding that the new movies reveal them to be gay. As a gay person, I don't want that at all!

I'm fine with gay characters, but I am not fine with established characters being turned gay to appeal to a niche audience.

Nicole and Sally were established characters with a long time, Sally having explicit romances entirely with male characters. Nicole is an AI and had no romances to speak of. It actually makes more sense for her to be asexual, but assuming she did have a sexuality, there has been nothing in the history of the franchise to indicate romantic feelings for another girl.

If they introduced two new characters who met and fell in love, it would be fine. But taking two character that have been there from the beginning, one of the strongest female friendships in the series, and then saying "oops, cats out of the bag, turns out they like each other more than that!" just feels cheap.
