in the end i dont think gummy ever wanted a massive population server. he just
wanted to make a server that was up to his own personal standards and only
wanted enough people to play there to populate his guild and make the world
feel alive. that was the goal he set out for all those years ago. along the way nostalrius became a thing and massive population became an expected thing within the private server community. But gummys server was never about supporting massive population so his core wasnt optimized to handle the flood
of people trying to connect. Corecraft, a similar project with similar goals in mind also had the same issue when trying to connect a large amount of people to the core and ultimately lead to the death of the project. I believe that a near flawlessly scripted tbc server just isnt feasible with massive population. atleast not using the methods that corecraft and gummy used when originally coding their servers. I played the entire 4 hours the server was up. There was a massive amount of people connected at the launch but it lagged like a motherfucker. this is supported by gummys statements in his video. he even says he couldnt connect to the remote log on from the amount of lag. Once he restarted the server the queues began. I personally never saw a queue. I think there was some grace period because a lot of people who got in at the start stayed in. suddenly areas that were massively full of people were empty ghost towns. A lot of people ingame speculated the population to be about 800. Judging by how empty teldrassil I think this is an accurate estimate. the queues were massive from what i heard from other people trying to connect. you would get to position 1 in queue and then disconnect. I believe gummy couldnt take the pressure from mass amounts of people he was receiving so he faked the blizzard letter and quit. This is what happens when you dont do a proper stress test for your server before releasing like elysium did.

Reminder that the "failed launch" of Felmyst was actual a stress test. Gummy simply didn't want to tell everyone it was a stress test because otherwise people wouldn't have tried to log in, which wouldn't give an accurate representation of possible player numbers.

There are several hints pointing out how it was planned:

1: The C&D letter being "hand delivered" doesn't contain creases from travel, is missing correct legal jargon, and is printed on the wrong type of paper.

2: If there was a legitimate C&D notice, the server would have been shut down immediately instead of giving a 30 minute window for players to dick around. The domains for the website would've been seized as well as the censorship of his social media channels, which clearly didn't happen.

3: In his now deleted video where he explains what is happening, he nonchalantly discusses the unexpectedness of the player interest as well as potential vulnerabilities in the login server. The guy has been a constant part of the private server community for years and seen it grow from a small community of hundreds to a thriving hub of normies, how could he not see the waves of popularity that washed over the likes of Nostalrius, Kronos, and Elysium? His server launch trailer on Youtube had over 30 thousand views before it was scheduled for release. And for someone who has dedicated years to server performance, it's suspicious that a "vulnerability" would be detected out of the blue when he finally decides to "launch" the server for realsies.

In essence, it's safe to assume that Blizzard isn't pursuing him legally, and he didn't pull the plug out of mere frustration or shock at the amount of people who showed up. He's clearly analyzing the data that was recovered from the stress test and implementing it for a soft launch, one in which he will absolutely be prepared for in every aspect.

Gummy felt like retail since level 1:
- quests work flawlessly in every aspect
- perfect pathfinding, I've never seen anything like that since forever
- NPC behavior, they roam, say their phrases, do scripted things, cast spells properly, etc.
Last two are not part of warmane and will never be, quests there are mostly? working, but not properly scripted. The only thing that warmane has superior to gummy's are pvp class mechanics(like 99% perfect), everything else(leveling, pve) sucks total balls.

There are just too many minor things that catch your eye and make you think "well that's not how it should be, but it's and only a private server, right?..". Gummy's beta had these things polished and it felt so much more enjoyable to level on.

The npc roaming mechanic was slightly more complex in retail, but it was good enough. The mobs turn, take a few steps, and then turn again and take a few steps like 2 seconds later. They do this fairly predictably, and have very tight areas that they roam in. Blizzards had longer walks in a line, they strayed farther from their center point, walked more in random ways, and didnt always take the same number of steps I dont think. The only one thing that warmane did better in terms of scripting than any other TBC server is PvP. Everything else is at kurwaground scripting level. There are literally two reasons to roll warmane:
1) You're hardcore PvP player who plans on spending all his time playing arena and doesn't mind paying to skip fake queue(because pvp on x1 will always be dead, obviously)
2) You're desperately craving ANY at least somehow decent TBC server with online numbers and don't mind paying to skip fake queue(because x1 won't have the numbers and it's still the same shitty core so why bother)

Medivh and Outland don't use the same core? Also pop is far from bad in a pserver perspective. Assuming pop is faked and it's actually 1.5~2k still good.
