I am well aware of this trope, having played dozens of JRPGs. But, XIV being the shounen stories to beat shounen stories, the Warrior of Light is nigh unstoppable. I like that they tried to make the steppe seem big but console limitations + flying make every zone feel like a big bowl regardless, which is a shitty feeling. Just fly up in any zone and you'll notice it's either surrounded by featureless mountains/void/land that you can't get to. At least one the ground like ARR zones the zones feel somewhat big because you can't see all the cut corners from the ground unless you go OOB

ARR zones used a lot of decent looking 2D images for distant horizon backgrounds but I guess they stopped doing that since flying mounts became a thing and it would be a little trickier to present.

Do Palace of the Dead (unlocked through a short, level 17 quest taken in the Gridanian Adventurer's Guild) on whatever job you want to play.
You start from level 1 in the dungeon and level up quickly all the way up to 60.
You can use this system to get a feel for whatever job you like and also get very large amounts of EXP if you're below 50
