Okay /owg/, I just caved in and played mercy for a match. We won, and I've never felt so fucking disgusted of myself. And I've done some shady things in my 25 years.
Literally the whole gameplay except for maybe the ultimate can be sumed up in ten-fifteen lines of code for a bot.
You look for the most endangered teammate, you heal him. Is there are no exceptionally endangered teammates, you boost the one that gain the most benefit(Soldier/Pharah)
That fucking match I've spent just wobbling around on the elevation on the first point of anubis, working full time as a health/damage boost dispenser, and doing NOTHING else.
You don't look for opportunities to use utility - you have none. You don't worry about positioning, you have GA to carry you anywhere. You don't think about strategies to fix your team, should things go wrong - you have no influence on anything, literally EVERY single thing is done by somebody other than you.
Christ.
Ya know, I now think the problem isn't in that Mercy is broken and annoying. It's mostly that she's not fucking fun to play. Genji is broken and annoying, but nobody cares, because he's fun.
Mercy is just... Boring. You could write some adjustable Python code on top of existing AI movement mechanics, and would get about diamond level mercy, easily. Probably in, say, a weeks time, if you wanted to really perfect the execution.
How are people enjoying this? Are people even enjoying this?
I'm flustered now.

You're all playing a casualised fps where individual player skill is minimized in favor of character abilities.

Coming from real fps's, this is very entertaining to watch. Overwatch is intentionally, by design, universally lower player-input focused, and I love watching a babby flinging sand at the other babbies in the overwatch babby-containment sandbox over which character takes more or less skill than the other characters in the by-design lower player input game.

90% of the Mercy defending in this thread is trolling, but I love it when Mercy mains unironically try to tell you that Mercy requires a high degree of skill. I remember this one time some fags were arguing in one of my games and the Mercy thought the guy he was arguing with was Winston. In reality I was Winston. He said that a Winston player can't talk shit about Mercy having low skill requirements.

I asked if Mercy has anything as mechanically demanding as jumping and landing a punch on a target and having the jump landing cancel the animation. Not hard to do at all, but a hundred times more complex than anything Mercy has. No response.

Why isn't anyone talking about how stupid camera lockdown is?
If you press slam and actually try to aim it, your camera gets locked out, and you can't fucking look at the people you are slamming to follow up on it properly.
If you charge your punch to it's full potential, while charging you have very little control of your camera, it's locked in a weird 100*-ish angle, and even then, for the first 1/2 of the charging animation, you're locked into looking straight forwards.
This is fucking stupid, why the hell isn't anyone talking about it, while it's still only on PTR, and not going live as is?

But while good players can climb in rank on any hero,(EVERY role can make a substantial impact regardless of the other team's skill and line-up), Overwatch is much different. I've played against people who've used aimbots and they still lost just because this game is more team-focused - there is less carry potential as a result of it. Not saying whether it's a good or bad thing, but that's how the game works.

Only thing is that every character in dota 2 has different levels of strength, thus could impact the game. Overwatch heroes have two states - default and when they have their ultimate. They don't increase in power over the course of the game like Dota heroes and none of them really snowball except maybe Zarya but even that's a stretch.

Got to Master on Reaper and I can tell you a few pointers

Flanking is the primary way of getting kills. Attack healers, and be patient. Wait for an opportune moment to cap a round in a Mercy or Zenyatta on the back line. Reaper also works great as a tank killer; Hunt down enemy Winstons and Roadhogs.

Reaper's new passive heals 20% per damage done, and is effected by biotic grenade. Combined with his 250 how, making him the only offense hero to have such HP besides Doomfist IIRC, he can take a good amount of punishment and be a little tanky if you need to act defensively.
