Items shouldn't exist at all. Stats should be set for every spec and only changed in balance patches.
Killing certain bosses lets you enable what are now legendary and trinket effects and set bonuses through a point buy system.

You can start any time but its takes a couple years to develop and you get burned by a handful of asshats in the process of finding the good ones.

Most of my friends I met via pug raids in WotLK or Heroics in BC, the Classic ones are literally all gone. Dungeon finder really has done a huge disservice to the social aspects of WoW by making groups into an automated throwaway thing instead of something you do in trade chat and friends lists.

It really is just a matter of being social open to random people, meeting lots of morons and sifting out a handful of good buddies. You gotta talk to people you don't know. My best WoW friend I met in a Naxx 25 pug in Wrath, We we're both carrying the group and we used to make fun of all the the stupid thing the shitters we're doing in whispers, that guy and I once went on an 81 games 2v2 win streak going from like 1300 to 1870 without losing a match.

Do I strike you as an alpha personality? I'm not. I'm an introvert who plays by myself 99% of the time and posts screenshots on a malaysian basketweaving forum as a form of social interaction.
I've led three guilds, and probably a couple hundred raids, along with countless orgnaized BGs. Alpha type people end up leading becasue they're self centered and always think they should be in charge, but they're often not actually good at it. They just boss people around and stomp their feet until they get what they want, which works if you start with a group of solid players, but tends to be destructive if you have people who actually need to learn stuff.

Good leadership is about organizing things into tasks manageable for the people they are being assigned to and making sure that people are not becoming frustrated or confused by what you need them to do. You've gotta learn your people, learn who you can lean on and who is retarded and must be given a helmet and kept on a leash. Then assign roles and tasks accordingly. This takes some effort when Pugging, but its much better to go fishing for a competent tank and some solid dps and take longer to form up than to ask some dipshit to play beyond his skills and wipe/crash the pug for it.

The Most important aspect of leading, pugs in particular, is patience, and after patience is autism and being willing and able to learn everyones jobs and spoonfeed it to them. So patience and autism. If you have those you can lead, whether you will is a question of confidence. You gotta risk putting together a few failures and looking like an asshole, but that is the only way for you to learn your role as leader.

What's the fastest way to gear when you're ilvl 880? Guild wont take me on alt runs because they demand 890 as a minimum (and players who aren't healers bc we have too many apparently) and I'm not sure if I can heal through the +9 keystone I have.

It can sometimes be but usually the enemy melee is busy fucking over your healers in a RBG so most of the time you'll be good.

Of course certain bgs like Eye benefit from the fact that a bunch of people are in the middle that you can just dot up.

If you want to get into tanking pick up demon hunter, it's quite a basic spec with lots of passive mitigation, but you shouldn't have a lot of trouble with a blood dk if you can keep up a buff and rotate cds properly.

I picked up blood in WoD so its a bit different now but I think its still a good pick. DK was the first class I ever seriously tanked on. I dicked with a warrior tank in cata but never raided or did any hard content. I think blood is a good choice, when youre questing and learning the class early on it is actually impossible to die

What's the most needed healer/support spec?

Thoughts from someone who started (I've never played WoW before) a week ago:
I have a Worgen Rogue, Gnome Warlock, Orc Hunter, Blood Elf Paladin

Worgen starting area is the longest but was pretty interesting throughout. Rogue was fun too, but mostly in Outlaw. Orc had the weakest starter story.
Warlock feels pretty weak at the start, I struggled a few times in Gnomeregan.
Of all the professions, Enchanting feels the worst. It doesn't feel like I'm making much of value with it right now, whereas Apprentice Inscription and Alchemy felt like I was producing proportionally quality goods all the time.

I haven't had the chance to get in a dungeon yet, but here's hoping.
