Menace 1-6 or Menace Actual would be the commander (you). So Bradford is talking to the squad leader, Menace 1-5.

They've been in the game since release, they're a rare thing you find on missions that involve any kind of ADVENT storage.

They give you a little bit of loot iirc, wasn't an incomplete feature or anything, just a little hidden "huh, neat" one.

If anything, I think the ADVENT Supplies sitrep is them realising that the majority of their players didn't notice it so drawing it to their attention.

That's a common problem with playtesting. Valve used to get around it by just hiring some shmucks to play their games occasionally.

The issue could easily be solved by having a check list of all states the game can be in and testing it. Valve's testing is fine, the issue is that some parts of games that would otherwise be enjoyable get removed because devs misinterpret people getting confused with frustrated and rather then just making certain things clearer, decide it's not worth the effort and completely gut a section.

I found this pic on UFOpedia, but I don't know where it comes from (i.e. it's probably unofficial). It may be that confusion was caused by the blue UI theme being the only easily visible in-game representation of pure elerium.

Not having played X-Com, though, I assumed it was green like the UFO power source. But then again, the Elerium Cores from XCOM 2 are also yellow, so...

It's blue in it's natural state and might be processed into different colors related to the power output.

Well, think about how tough Mutons are. Now imagine trying to conquer an entire planet of them, when all the Elders had were EU-era Sectoids and Vipers, plus possibly war machines like Sectopods. I can imagine the Mutons giving them such a hard job that when they finally _were_ conquered, the Elders were rather spiteful when assimilating them into their empire.

Man, really? I loved them. Given how crazily huge some LW2 missions get, it's nice to really go back to basics - just a handful of rookies with a few upgraded guns and one veteran soldier. Thank you to the anon that helped me with mod issue in the previous thread, It turned out that the "Ammo and Vest Slots" mod was causing the geoscape lag.

Considering that using Tactical Rigging instead causes no issues, I'm going to take a guess that adding in a vest slot (which is really just +1 utility slot) caused the issue somehow.

As i've said before, yes. Taking the heaviest games I have installed:
Arkham Knight - Run it with everything on ultra, though I've had some issues and crashes, but this port is a total mess and it never came close to the sort of shit I get from XCOM 2 anyway.
Total Warhammer - runs fucking fine, I actually play it with my winamp + browser open and alt tabbing all the time
D44M - runs beautifully, everything on highest settings
Rainbow Six Siege - Single player runs perfectly fine with everything on high, Idk about multiplayer because I fell for the low specs meme
I've had some issues with the new Deus Ex as well, but I played it with my old shitty stock fan and haven't really felt the urge to reinstall it after I got my new one

While I do get a more stable performance if I'm running Vanilla, I can get to a full mission + the start of the next one before I'm getting 90%+ RAM usage and a eventual crash.

fuck I waited too long to get the rulers in. Also how do you play legendary/impossible. Right now I play bronze mode commander on xcom 2 (though I have to admit I did save scum 1 level where my col support died, but that is because I didn't realize that a burn affects the shield bearer's shield instead of their health which is dumb).

Basically what do I need to be able to play the hardest difficulty in xcom ew and xcom 2? I've technically never beaten xcom eu. In EW I can do everything on commander, except for the shen and annette missions, with those turned off I can play the first 2 months as classic and then after I get lasers I can put the game on impossible and win. Xcom 2 can beat the game with all dlc and no mods on commander.


So what is the thing I need to be able to beat both games on legendary/impossible?

You aren't in any immediate threat, although you need to get those remaining satellites up ASAP. Brazil first, then the UK (you can lose Nigeria, in fact I would probably abandon it; but you really want to grab the SA continent bonus while you still can)

Once you've got global satellite coverage, you'll end the unavoidable panic increase from abduction missions. As long you can keep shooting those UFOs down, you're in the clear.

One of the inherent problems with heavily nerfing the stealth aspect from LW2 is that suddenly all missions absolutely require a full squad but now all the pods are focused around the objective and you have a shit ton of drones out to bring everything into yellow alert before you can even approach the main area.

My issue is how fucking retarded it is design wise. The best way to tackle Alien Rulers is to literally delay them until you have Colonels, Plasma and Powered Armor. You have a massive net loss by tackling them early

Compare this with the SPARK. Which is also going to be buffed but is already nice as is. The mission can be easily tackled once you hit Magnetic, but if you're careful it's doable with starter gear

Alien Rulers with starter gear is rape land, even if you manage to Phantom them into an isolated engagement on a non-timer mission like Supply Raid or Facility

Alien Rulers with magnetic is super risky, especially if you don't have the armor, which no-one does normally because weapons is far better than armor, dead enemies don't deal damage

All the gear from Alien Rulers is only good early on. By the time you hit Plasma and Colonels, what's the point of having a fucking Axe that deals 6 damage for free when I can just Chain Shot, Rupture, Serial, or use any amounts of upgraded explosives. If I wait even longer, I can also have a fully specced SPARK and PSI tagging along my Colonel squad

The developers are massively cranking down the difficulty on Alien Rulers by basically, as far as I understand, making it so blue moves don't trigger it (they said things like shooting or moving, but it sounds like anything that ends a soldier's turn counts, they might give more details later)

The problem with the rulers is that they are 'strong'. It is that there isn't really any counter play to them. They are pretty much a product of "We need to have hard choices". They are built in such a way that you either need to target them, or you target other aliens. Either way, you are going to get hurt and there isn't anything you can do about it and that's bad.

I'm glad that Jake is realizing this and toning it down, why should a ruler react to what they can't see? But really, the worst was just the frequency that they would show up. I did the AH very late game, but every mission would have them in it. So the change to making it so you have to activate them by assaulting the base they guard is much better. Viper King isn't bad to do early game compared to say the Berserker Queen.

The only Ruler this is true for isthe Archon King, due to Devastate, which is the only questionable decision in the whole DLC. Subject Gamma really isn't terribly dangerous and the Berserker Queen can be kited around, flashbanged, lured into Overwatch traps.

Actually, all the rulers can. A stealthed Ranger can pick them out ahead of your advancing soldiers and give you time to tempt them into a whole squad's worth of Overwatch fire. They'll be so battered after that you only need to land a couple more hits to send them running.

The Rulers are not difficult to deal with, you're just shit at the game.

That's not an argument. That's the equivalent of saying that all the aliens aren't difficult to deal with if you just kill them on their activation. It's not dealing with and moving around their abilities and trying to mitigate risk. You have to think in terms of worst case activations.

What do you do when you activate a pod of stunlancers? Well you flashbang them and then they can only shoot. What do you do when you have the Viper King activate on your turn? Well, you can use a flashbang, now he reacts and shoots the guy in the open. Ok, well what if you instead move the guy in the open into some cover? Now he grabs someone and binds them. Want to put acid on him instead to get the DoT train rolling? Now he shoots freezing breath at someone, ending their actions for the turn.

You can't expect a situation to always go in your favor, especially in the early game when your aim is completely shit. I've always taken them on in the late game and yes it's like you say, they are complete push overs. Overwatch traps become the end all for dealing with them, especially Guardian Specialists. But that's not the point. The entire core design of the rulers just runs counter to the game and people don't like that. They can deal with them just fine, but they just aren't that fun in most respects since they don't have a nice middle ground like other units. You are either fighting them when you don't have mag weapons and are just scrapping by on making them retreat, or you are destroying them in the late game.

Really the Chosen are what the Rulers should have been.

The optimal thing every time is to throw a frost bomb and just take shots with the highest %. No moving, no reloads, no buffs, no nothing. Such fun strategic gameplay.

The soldier fatigue mechanic (and the fact it is xcom and your dudes are gunna get hurt) means you are gunna need at least 1 Ranger as backup for the reaper. Like when I play now I need typically 2 rangers 3 gernaders, and maybe 2 specialists. I usually run a 2 ranger, 2 gernader, 1 specialist, 1 sharpshooter squad. The extra gernader is basically if a ranger or grenader go down. Having an extra support has typically been useless as they are only good once you get the field medic and over watch perks. Sharpshooter's most important skill is just long watch and they never get hurt anyway.

I think the changes will end up being for the better no doubt. Most of the time the Rulers getting a lucky shot in isn't going to crush your game. Viper King, even in early game only deals like 4-6 damage and his aim isn't that great, like 75. His AI also loves to spam bind. Berserker Queen likes to target aliens just as much as you. Archon is the only one that is ever really a threat and that's because devestate has a chance of unconsciousness. A bad activation on him in a sparse cover situation where you couldn't spread out means a round one Devestate with a chance of your entire squad except one guy going down.

Once you can have soldiers who can move into position and not have the Ruler react to it, means you can actually set up strats against them. Squadsight Snipers will be amazing against them. It also means being able to run away from them if you get into a bad situation. Freeze and break LoS and then they can only move on the alien turn to try to get you.

Even just being able to choose individually which Ruler you want to engage at a certain time will be a blessing. Viper King isn't hard even with Ballistic and it just becomes easier and easier to force a retreat as time goes on. First encounter with him is incredibly controlled if you do the story mission. Then the next time you encounter him he has only like 30-45 health compared to the 75 he started with. Then you just need to deal 20 HP of damage before he runs off again. That's one lucky over watch trap with six guys. Even if you don't get that, only a few good shots and he's gone. It shouldn't take more then 3 encounters with him to kill and then you can wait until Mag to go after Berserker Queen.

Yes, and that's a good thing. Both of those builds were rather half-baked; the faction heroes are what they should have been all along.

That's obviously the best thing you could do, but sometimes you might not be in position to use it, or maybe you moved up to use it but the next reaction was a bind on that soldier I've had that happen in some runs. But that is really the heart of the problem, the specialized equipment is pretty much the only real way to deal with them in a safe manner and while it's nice to have the fall back, it doesn't make it fun against them. Just a series of things you do to get rid of them.

Engagements against other units are just more dynamic and can depend on your playstyle or smart use of environment and choke points. I feel like my games go blacksite and skulljack as soon as I have 5 guys and magnetics, but then everything else gets done right on top of each other at the end. I think damage from Reapers will be more situational. They can either get mega damage from explosives, or just consistent safe damage from other abilities that let them stay concealed. At later ranks they could have a very good chance to stay concealed on their regular attacks too and they also have that mag dump skill, so their max damage is probably one of the highest if you can afford to use it. Snipers with their guaranteed Squadsight though will obviously be the safest and I'm sure there will be new missions that will take advantage of that much better then the Reapers, but I don't doubt that Reapers burst will be more desirable in most situations.

One PSI is all you need. Ideal layout for me would be one PSI, one SPARK, one Medic (health matters on the last mission, same with removing debuffs. A dead soldier is dead, a wounded soldier is golden), one Gunner (Chain Shot + Rupture to deal with the Avatars), one Sniper (Serial can wipe the reinforcements in the last chamber) and one Crit Ranger (Can be used to either kill one Avatar or one powerful enemy, Untouchable is used to nullify one of the inevitable attacks)

Reason I'd take Medic over Hacker is that Hacker is virtually useless in the AVATAR chamber, not enough damage output compared to the other three classes, and a Doctor is critically important if one of my guys gets mind-controlled/statused

First time I saw Rulers I thought it was overpowered and no fun. After some actual gitting gud, I thought it was a blast repelling the Viper King's first encounter with 4 squaddies and conventional weapons.

The only ruler I feel like is actually sort of cheap is the Archon ruler's AOE rocket attack. That one is still painful, no matter how I try to adapt to it. Everything else is neat-o though.

Swap out intimidate with wrecking ball because watching the same fucking animation every time my bullet magnet gets shot, followed by it failing to actually intimidate the enemy gets to ya pretty fast and you've got my build.

Really hoping that WotC will rework the SPARK skill tree or at least let them learn skills from other classes because as it stands everything after Rainmaker is underwhelming as fuck (except maybe Hunter Protocol if you use a mod that makes capable of hitting something).
