It's not easy to get the whole set so you may want to wait for Autumn. I may check later today to see if I have any spares, though. I usually change one room to match the current season.
I think just having a good mix of gathering food, finding stuff/mobility and fighting skills is enough for Desert Island Escape. It's not like you get anything for having a high score, and I haven't lost so far. So for the most part you can just choose characters that you like that are at least a little balanced.

Also, Tunnel Diggers are amazing. They let you go anywhere you want on the map. You can place your spawn wherever they end up and skip huge empty portions of the map. You can even get over rocks 'n' stuff with 'em.

All you really need to do is pay off your initial loans. You should then buy stuff from some of the stores, since doing so allows you to upgrade them. Time is really the only thing you need in New Leaf. After you unlock the Island in a few days, you can catch stag beetles at night to earn a lot of Bells. Just remember to hit all of the rocks with a shovel.

Can someone explain this Turnip meme to me? I've been playing for years and never bothered to buy a single Turnip. It just seems as though the profits would be minimal. If I buy 300,000 Bells worth of Turnips at 300 Bells a piece, then sell them for 302 Bells each, I'm only making 2,000 Bells of profit.
