The first thing you need to know is that being an orphan is enough to screw you over completely in Japan, and being illegitimate is double that. Then factor in how foster children may be kicked out as early as 15 with no support whatsoever, consider that Goro is really pissed off when he says he did everything to be liked and never got adopted and he practically had no choice but to go to his abusive dad who made him a hitman when what he actually offered was more like scandalizing politicians for giggles.

Consider too that Igor was removed right when he became a Wild Card so he had no real guidance whether in real life or in the Metaverse, and the worst part is that the guy is clearly sad about what he did like when he's upset with Sae for trying to remove Sojiro's custody of Futaba. So yeah, not only is he shafted in every way ever, even after killing and hurting a lot of people he's not desensitized enough to just ignore it.

Goro didn't offer to be a murderer, he showed up to Shido only after causing his criticizers to lose face and thought that with his ability to extract info from Shadows would be enough. And before you go on about his plan being retarded keep in mind that he said Shido was already high-ranking at that time and he was more or less a homeless kid. The localization does muddy up a bit of things but it's still clear that being a murderer was not originally a part of his agenda until it was either people dying or him dying, and no one's fighting for his life.

You see a lot of similiarities in the tone of the game, plus share plot lines. Perhaps you can chalk that up to Hashino being a fucking hack, but on the top of my head:

-The use of Joker
-Politician with crazy son
-Crazy son with daddy issues
-The entire cast has daddy issues
-The parallels between the Suou bros and Niijima sisters, only difference is that Mr. Niijima is dead and Papa Suou is alive.
-Cognition is a lot like rumors "make someone believe and it'll happen!"
-Hacker character that gets Prometheus
-The conspiracy is much alike to NWO, only difference is instead of a powerful conglomerate like Nanjo Group, you have fucking McDonald's backing them up and no dead rumor man
-Like EP, the conspiracy becomes a major thing towards the end and is revealed to be the reason a lot of this shit is happening in the first place
-Ryuji's track star career ruined by a teacher, much like Anna's track star career ruined by a principal
-Like the NWO, conspiracy also used the police force and the Yakuza (though NWO used the triads)

Goro approached Shido after doing things to his political rivals and also tells you that his ability to cause rampages is something only he can do. He never quite spells out that he didn't intend to be a murderer but there's an IM conversation where he asks you if you think the culprit is someone who kills for fun and another one where he hypothesizes blatantly that the culprit is being controlled by someone. That's likely why he gets so mad and yells about not needing teammates when you fight him, because he might not have to stain his hands if someone existed who had his back but that was never an option for him.

Shido's Shadow does literally say that he got Goro to start using his power properly and he did this by manipulating him with praise, and we know that Goro's actual power is making people go berserk which is basically a short term geass. I think it was because P4 was in the countryside. I think a lot of people find rural settings comfier. Everything's much more intimate and the town is more homely.

That said, having P5 set in Tokyo definitely worked well thematically for the PTs rebelling against a hectic, adult-driven world.

it worked thematically but it bothers me that all their targets were located in Tokyo, and I think mixing that with the initial idea of P5 being about traveling around the world would've worked better since that would allow them to target someone more important than some guy who thinks he owns Shibuya or Japanese Burger King.
I know that Hashino wanted to focus on Japan, again, but it feels like the "phantom thieves" theme wasn't used to it's fullest and was kinda wasted.

Ishihara was a nip politician that called the tsunami that wrecked Japan in 2011 divine punishment from god and blamed the younger generation and minorities for it saying they were sinful. He was later re-elected despite having said all of that and made his view. Given how P5 turned out and that we know it became what is is today after this all happened, and that the main human antagonist is a clear reference, I'd imagine much of the game's story and themes were inspired by how the public reacted to him and what P Studio thought about all of that.

Castle palace should have implemented a hookshot mechanic for shortcuts and alternative routes. The main entrance on the right had what appeared to be a unfinished alternative entrance.

Museum palace should have used this same mechanic to reach other floors. This meant more catwalks and the works.

Bank should be given to the Principal, his heart attack on account of Akechi meddling would have served as a point of contention between the thieves much early on. Haru would be the party member of this arc and would be suspected by 1-2 people who keep their mouth shut and ultimately cause friction later on. A rat lost in a maze would have made much more sense instead of Shido's palace by the vault.

Pyramid needed to be much shorter saga. Quicksand traps would use the previously mentioned hookshot mechanic from the museum. Design more challenging puzzles, extend the pyramid's length by 2-3 more rooms and it would be perfect. Include Makoto in this arc, I don't like Navigator only arc as they're not a party member so it won't take away Makoto's screentime especially when Makoto has her sister's palace too in the main game.

Space station, what to do. Shorten the first half of the stage and just extend the airlock section, not necessary with puzzles but just more spacey content. Party mistrust would be at an all time high here and lead to in-fighting.

Sae's Casino should include more explorable sections. It felt like there was a lack of mini boss fights, more of that. It overall felt just the smallest palace, with the top floor just having 3 areas but only one area was meaty and that was the lights out puzzle area.

Shido's Palace needs reworking, being outside more for starters. Include the planned helicopter section with a new mini boss fight. Have Akechi appear there, then escape on the helicopter, then he shows up again at his canon death destination.

Mementos Depth should have one moth apart before you can explore it in January or February.

Nah. Kaneshiro's Shadow may be the least meaningful in the entire game but drug trafficking and teenage exploitation was not something they should've tossed out the window just for the sake of Makoto or just for the sake of making the conspiracy more relevant throughout the game.
Keeping the individual arcs up until the end mostly disconnected is the entire point of this style in the first place.

Pyramid felt just right so I do't agree with any of that either.

Extending the airlock is the last thing the space station needed, they were already at the point where they had pointless 0 thought loops thrown in there for pretty much no reason. Extending the length of the Morgana section is also something they don't need to do.

One thing that really demolished P3 and 4 as far as I was concerned was how the characters were all teenagers that had to deal with real adult issues as opposed to P4 where the cast dealt with superficial teenage crap and P3's where despite how they were definitely more substantial than P4's, absolutely everyone revolved around a death in the family except for Junpei who was a run of the mill shonen supporting male and Fuuka who had stockholm's syndrome. It just got so tired by the time Ken showed up.

I'm just so disappointed with Ann after Kamoshida's Palace, she's still an okay character but even Yusuke impressed me more after his Palace because he somehow got Futaba talking and noticed how suspicious the Okumura thing was, sure it didn't go anywhere but it was something uniquely his.

Idiocy aside, he's always had good intentions and overall is a surprisingly caring guy. He was also the last man standing with Joker in my fight with Shido, couldn't' have won without him.
2) Makoto
I like her style (Weapon choices, outfit, fucking motorbike), can relate to her more then i'd like to, felt she made a nice foil to the rest of the team and never let me down gameplay wise.
3) Ann
Same reasons as Ryuji for the most part, appreciated just how much of a typically friendly gal she was rather then anything too over the top. Also pretty solid in a fight.
4) Yusuke
Fun and interesting character who's eccentricities tend to come out rather heart warming. Found his social link interesting too.
5) Futaba
Fun character who came far more out of the blue then the other characters so far. Her interactions with Sojiro and Joker made her feel like an endearing little sister.
6) Morgana
Wasn't much of a fan of Morgana at first, felt like exposition dump, the character and also trying too hard to make Ryuji become the new Yosuke. Little shit grew on me once he finally had his character arc though.
7) Goro
Has his upsides and downsides for better or for worse, felt a bit forced upon you for some parts but still had a few twists that i found interesting at least.
8) Haru
Didn't get to spend enough time with her to really get a feel for her character, the most interesting things about her i found out after the fact (her dialog about shadow in mementos and her love of horror movies). Gameplay however i enjoyed her shitting all over status effect enemies late game.

I didn't hate any character in particular however, but that's my ranking. I honestly like them all.

I stopped looking at Goro as a character that was mostly sympathetic a long while ago, but seeing how people can actually have him lean heavily both ways without much or any contradiction is pretty much at the root of what I like about him. The way his public persona was portrayed has a whole lot to do with that because of how it contributes to the drive behind those views. It's a personality you could admire very easily but remain consistently distant from so you never quite had enough insight into who he was to like him as a friend, which is a major part of the character. After thinking about it more the twist with him isn't that he's a detective who staged the crimes he solved, he was actually focusing his real detecting skills on the PT by figuring out what sort of people they were (See: Asking them if the PT would do things like causing a change of heart in a random person). I get the impression that he starts chasing you hard after Madarame and Kaneshiro's Palaces because he doesn't want you ever crossing the path of his dad since he'd have to kill you, and if it's true that does complicate his character.

Not necessarily true because he absolutely loses it when Morgana said his smile when he fought with them (That is to say at the Casino) was real and that he liked Joker. Yusuke chides him for using his power for fame but concedes he may well have ended up like that had he not been saved, and in the first place Goro never said he enjoyed killing people so they could tell on some level that he aligned with them even if he was a murderer. IIRC Ann also said something about how he's kind of like them before that boss fight, I think this was when he said he's trying to get back at his dad which was mistakenly localized as if he wants to get revenge on more people than that.
