Why does it seem like some kids think they'll be more mature if they drop a series. Just say you're not interested instead of sounding pretentious. It also doesn't help when you drop a series for an equally "childish"

Of course the story was low effort. It was an intentional design decision made so they could avoid having hub worlds, long cutscenes or level themes that had to make sense.

No story means less interrupted gameplay closer to the classic titles and not worrying about transition from a beach to a super high-tech city to a haunted castle and then a fleet of airships. It's a decision that benefitted the game.

if you think that the game needed all of that stuff stripping out then sure.

But on the other side of the fence, the flanderisation of the characters and dumbing down of the plot proved the game was aimed at a younger audience than SA1/2 were. It's not a problem, but it's one of the reasons I dislike it. Heroes wasn't really better than the Adventure games, it was just different. And I didn't agree with the choices. I mean for a start the gimmick of sticking three characters together was just annoying. Then compound that with the bad CG, cheesy acting (even for a sonic game) the awful cutscenes and the repetitive gameplay just sorta sucked after playing something as interesting as SA1.

I really didn't like what heroes did to the characters. Also it was the perfect chance to forget big and they kept him. They shackled amy with cream and made her a babysitter. And cream in general was a bad move they were trying to what, appeal to 6 year old girls and instead just invited pedophiles.

But that's just like, my opinion man.

That kind of falls apart towards the end where we're expected to take the low effort story seriously. I think they tried to have their cake and eat it too with Heroes and it kind of fell flat.

Heroes story was pretty bad, and it doesn't make much sense. Does everyone fight metal sonic? Are all the stories concurrent, or is it only the team you happen to be playing as count? What happens when tails abandons the plane in the beginning? Why would eggman call chaotix surely he can figure his way out of a locked room he built? Metal Sonic gets flared jeans, starts talking and becomes a giant dragon thing?

Not saying Adventure was much better, but there's a reason people think the 3D games are shit and up until like colours they were mostly right.

Also, I never liked how Sonic ditched his famous anime run during this era. The whole reason he started doing that run was because it made him stand out with his longer limbs and bigger head. The "Plastic Era" Sonic's limbs are the noodliest and his head is one of the biggest out of all of the Sonics, yet it is during this era when he ditches the run that accents these features. A really big misstep in my opinion.

We don't know. We only know news is absolutely coming this week and all signs point to something revealed at Comic-Con. What the news will be, we don't know, but you don't hype up a cancellation so something about the comics is coming back. Whether it returns like nothing happened, gets relaunched, gets a new publisher, or possibly rebooted again, we'll have to wait and see.

The reason they did that was because Genesis of a Hero was 'based' on the old games but it's more like a demonstration of how the old games fit into the reboot timeline (in the reboot, all of the Sonic games' events are known to have taken place with the exception of Lost World).

Snively was forced to work for Eggman up until he joined G.U.N., and it's shown that while Sonic and Tails went off during the events of Sonic 2, the other Freedom Fighters were just chilling in Knothole.

I personally don't mind the OCs. The thing I always liked about the comics, for their immense flaws, was the expanded Sonic universe, and if I wanted something more simple and to-the-point, I'd play the games. I wouldn't be hurt if they trimmed down the cast however.

The comic can have originals (used sparingly), but I think they should definitely remove the SatAM cast (the Freedom Fighters and Naugus, that is). The characters that exist currently, like Thunderbolt, Razor, and Breezie, hold up well in my opinion and are very enjoyable additions, but Sally, Antoine, Bunnie, as well as the rest of the Freedom Fighters (save for arguably Rotor, who got better since the reboot) are stale personalities who exist mostly as artifacts of their time period, where Sally was "the chick", and everyone else was plain unmemorable or a walking stereotype with a funny accent.

i like lighthearted adventures, but I also like heavier plot in my sonic. and i know we won't get anything good like that from the games. it's like i said, if people want simple plots or basic adaptations of a universe with little consequence, they can play the games or read Mega Drive. i love Mega Drive, but the main comics let me see a bigger world, and with a bigger world comes naturally, more characters besides just the same ones we've seen a billion times in the games.

it doesn't even make sense from a worldbuilding standpoint for there to only be "characters from the games" and no original additions. these aren't the games, and the comics alone enravel me in Sonic's world far deeper than any game has.

the reboot alone has been pretty accessible, more than accessible. "overly convoluted" is not how i'd describe it

i like many of the characters in the comics. if "no one cares about them" that's why as a writer you're supposed to convince me to care about them or like them. No one expects you to like a character right off the bat, and that's where the writer's job comes in, and so far i do like many of the originals introduced.

the comics stand out among other sonic media because of this approach, and i think improving the writing is necessary of course, but not something as drastic as "scrap all original additions c-cuz they're all bad". there's definitely a place for everything, and it lies in good execution, not the inherently flawed nature of a supposed concept

If the comics are just like the games then nobody would read them because you can just play the games or watch the cutscenes on YouTube. If you're going to make the comics different enough to actually attract and, more importantly, retain readers, then they need to be different enough from the games to be worth reading. That will inevitably mean changing the stories, adding characterization to existing game characters, adding new locations, adding OCs, and so on.

I think what the reboot should have done was have the Freedom Fighters be their own thing that's separate from whatever Sonic and the other game cast are doing. So instead of them being main characters, they're just another group of heroes like Team Dark or the Chaotix and while Sonic is their ally, he isn't part of the team. They'd only show up every now and then for a few issues at a time or have a Universe arc to themselves while Sonic doing whatever shit Sonic does is kept the main focus.

I think that's a happy medium that can satisfy people who both love and hate the SatAM cast and it also solves the problem of having to explain why they aren't tagging along with Sonic during the events of the games.

Watched it on VHS with a few of my elementary school friends (or as close to it as you could call them anyway) and despite some cringey moments they appeared to like it for the most part.

We played Sonic Adventure 2 later on and one of my friends commented on Rouge saying, "She's pretty hot. For a cartoon." Then I think he spent a while trying to get her boobs to jiggle.
