I've though about this before. Funny enough, of all of the games EOIII was the final one that I played and I think it would probably be the one that I choose.
I have some pretty intense memories and emotional attachment to the first games that I played, II and IV, but III was so unlike any other game.
IV would be next up though. The jump to the 3DS was an exciting experience for me. The music is god tier, Dalla was so motherly and welcoming, Kirtida was flirtatious and smart, and class synergies were a fucking blast to experiment with.
2U Was fantastically done, so I feel like I've already experienced Heroes of Lagaard all over again in a sense.

So how do chain fencers compare with link landsharks? I know they turned it down a notch but I still want to give it a shot. Also recommended party members for it?

Pretty badly mostly because there is no Dancer that could activate them easily.
You can make them deal good damage but to get the same monster melting experience you would need to go for Sanzu.

For a decent Chain Fencer party just bring a Hound (stab damage), a Warlock (elemental and maybe stab damage) and either Shaman or Herbalist since both can keep you alive but also wield a bow.
For a tank I'd pick a Dragoon. They don't synergize with Chain Fencer as much as a counter attacking dodge Fencer would but without much control or other defences area attacks would roast your party alive with a dodge tank.

Sanzu 10 deals far less damage to your party member than it does to enemies.
In addition Sanzu has only a limited number of activations. If you use them up before the enemy can act there is no risk for you.

Sanzu activates once for the what activates the Chain and once for the Chain itself.
Chains however don't get activated by Sanzu since it's cut damage.
If you don't get enough hits to use up all your Sanzu activations you can give your Masurao fewer katanas to lower the hit limit.

A pure Sanzu party would make good use of a Cestus since their Combo skills (One-Two and Lead Blow) activate the skills seperately so they all count for Sanzu - similarely to how everySword Dance/Blade Flurry hit would activate a Link without fail.
But then you of course have no space for a Chain Fencer.

Chain/Sanzu party is not horrible especially since Masurao also has a stab attack so even before Sanzu you should have a reliable damage output - but I don't think it is a fully optimized party.

Just unlocked Imperials and man are they fun to use. Elemental blades just destroy everything without even set up. Are there any classes that are similarly powerful in EOV or any of the other games?

Imperials are the only ones that frontload their damage like that.
But there are classes in other games that can deal massive damage with some set-up - Fafnir in EO2U can 100-0 the final post-game boss on the highest difficulty after two turns of set-up. And with the HP bloat of bosses in EO2U we are talking 140000 HP here.
Dark Hunter Ecstasy is also crazy in that game but as good against the final post-game boss since that one is immune to one of the binds and Ecstasy deals more damage based on the number of binds.

Other classes that deal massive damage don't usually do that in one big swing but in many small packets like a Warrior's Might Shogun in EOIII, Linker Landy in EOIV or Sanzu Masurao in EOV.

Necromancers in EOV have a pretty big blast.
They can sacrifice one of their ghosts to deal as much damage as it has HP. And there is one FOE that can easily be turned into a 9999HP ghost.
Unfortunately you only can have three ghosts at a time so you have limited ammo.

no thats pretty normal for EO, the first floor usually has one really strong random encounter that whips your shit. Like the Lynx in EO3 or those Worms in EOU2. Nothing you can really do about it, try binding them with the Cestus. Once you get some more armor it'll be better

Masarao has points in the damage increase skills (More damage when attacking the same enemy twice, mastery, etc), Cestus has arm break and mastery, Dragoon has shield moves because I'm retarded and didn't realize it had a gun equipped
Necro and Warlock seem to work fine, they have nice damage output, and the Necro's acting as healer too, with the spirit sacrifice skill

But the Mad Dog encounters 1shot everything they attack, making strategy useless. I have swapped out dragoon for a herbalist to keep myself alive, but even with the blindness debuff and attack decrease, mad dog still 1shots everything

Dragoon should spam Line Guard and Gun Mount every turn until your frontline stops dying all the time.
Cestus should either arm bind enemies (which cuts STR in half so even their non-arm physical attack will get weaker) or head bind enemies that you know use skills with their heads (like dogs - they don't bite with their legs).

Necro should probably rush towards Price of Life since it's your only source of heal outside of Medicas.

Warlock and Masurao just need some strong attack skills to kill enemies before they kill you.

Watch the TP cost before getting rank 5 or 10 but still don't spread your points too thin - a few strong skills are better than a bunch of weak ones (even if TP costs might sting until you get more levels).
And as another anon said: wait with your passives.

So far things are working ok, I just feel like TP are running out too fast all the time, and my healing options are limited.

I just can't rely on Necro for healing since with 3 heals will deplete every single TP (not even counting summoning costs), but getting a herbalist means having to "waste" a slot on a character that can't attack at all (sans for single-digit attacks and debuffs)

Is the Herbalist passive (Regain HP and TP on every gathering) good?
How about all the racials that restore TP when using Basic skills?

Going back to town for TP is something that happens rather often in the early game especially if you are unexperienced.

Racial passive can definitely help but don't fully rely on it since the activation rate is not too great.
Btw. all skill you cann currently learn are "basic" skills - advanced skills get unlocked later.
Magic Heal is a Unison skill that everyone knows that restores some TP. It takes four charges but only the one innitiating it needs to have a full gauge.
So basically you can use it twice - once with four people with full gauges and once with one person with a full gauge and three people with less.
It's nothing spectacular but it can prolong your stay.

If you have a Brownie (the little people) they have a racial passive that increases the effectiveness of healing items which makes them good healers that burn your money instead of TP.
After you finish the tutorial mission you can reclass any race into any class if you don't like Shaman or Herbalist. Although only Warlock, Necromancer and maybe a fully defensive Dragoon are good reclasses for the potatoes since they are great healers, goo magical damage dealers (although not as good as Lunarians) and bad physical damage dealers or status inflicters.

You could also go the other was around and make a Lunarian Herbalist - they are good healers and status inflicters and later on Herbalists can get some damage skills they aren't an empty slot anymore when no one needs to be healed.
