For those who may have missed it in the last thread and might possibly be interested I'm gonna be posting this again once more. My mod is officially updated to 3.0

New features are 3 new races that are sure to fuck your shit up, and a unique language for all 12 civilizations. If you give my mod a try, please tell me what you think of it. I could use the feedback since I probably won't be able to find all the problems by myself.

On another note though, I'm gonna talk about some particularly cool tricks I learned that might be of use to any other modders in this thread.

1. I was making a race of inbred, genetically defective mole people. I tried a bunch of different solutions to try and represent this aspect of them, but managed to discover a solution that I think works fairly well. I located their MAXAGE tag and did this to it:
[MAXAGE:10:90]

Basically, this means that they are only fit and healthy for the first ten years of their life, and beyond that their genetic deformities mean they could kick the bucket at any minute, which is what I wanted.

The second problem arose from making an insect race with fertile male drones and female queens, and sterile female workers and soldiers. The issue was that the race quickly went extinct because drones kept marrying sterile females instead of queens. The solution to this particular conundrum was surprisingly simple. I simply made the bugs gay.

Basically, I greatly increased the rate of homosexuality within soldier and worker castes, which pretty much solved the problem.

My plan is actually to avoid completely mimicking conventional animal men. They are meant to appear superficially rodent-like, but are really a classification unto themselves, as are the majority of the other species.

I also notice many of your creatures are MUNDANE; this is generally saved for creatures that are actual real-life creatures. I'm pretty sure it only affects the Ages so if that's what you wanted, go for it.

Manat: They switch between exoskeleton and vertebrae tissue layers and between chitin and skin so much it's difficult for me to tell who has what. Some castes don't have a tissue layer body detail plan, then some have a vertebrae one, and then at the end for all castes you say everyone has an exoskeleton one. It's possible the last exoskeleton plan is overwriting the previous castes vertebrae one, but I'm not sure. I would suggest taking it out completely from the all castes spot and just making sure every caste has it's own materials/tissues/tissue layers definition, unless you're absolutely certain it applies to everyone. It's more text, but it should make it much more clear what caste exactly has what. At the very least I note the nobles are described as having chitin, and even have chitin colorations, but use vertebrae tissue layers and skin. And please for the love of god, format these things. Use that tab button! If you're still using notepad, get a real text editor! Especially since I'm about to throw line numbers at you.

All right I think I managed to sort these out. Usually when I remove the brackets from something its because I want it removed from the creature but am also worried it might fuck things up in the future so I keep the rest of the line intact in case I want to add it in.

I use Atom. It's designed for programming but it works well for plain text too. Easily allows for switching between files in a folder, and you can do neat things like selecting several lines and indenting or unindenting all of them at once with a single tab or shift-tab press.

Woor:
Don't give them natural climbing skill, speed up their climbing gait. 5kph is positively anemic, even with good climbing skills. 6 arguments in the vertebrae detail plan! I have no idea how the game is handling this, but it seems like you just meant to replace the skin with chitin.

Xing: Stop switching between castes! Put those gaits and body sizes where you first defined them. Also the two sections which have the gaits in them are the same. I'm assuming you meant to change the first one later, because you gave all the castes flying. This is just a personal suggestion, but maybe add a few more organs to them? In general, the longer the BODY list is, the more interesting they are to fight, more things to grapple, more things to interact with.

Yotunmen:
You claim they're cold to the touch, but with a homeotherm of 10067, they're just as warm as a dwarf. You can reduce this somewhat but going to 10000 or lower (which I totally would) would necessitate changes to how easily their blood freezes, and the COLDDAM_POINTs of their tissues. Or even further, you could make a kind of ice with a fixed temperature that makes up some of their tissues, and literally make them out of enchanted ice.

The Woor will work out perfectly fine if you just use chitin in place of their skin. A vertebrae body, but with a layer of chitin. Only downside is that it will be rather thin without more intensive modifications. Well, see that doesn't really fix the problem, it makes it worse even. Now they're dwarves except with 66 degrees less protection from the effects of cold, and would mean they'd have to avoid cold places like the plague. I'd highly suggest modifying their blood's melting point, I'm pretty sure you can just specify a new one right when you import it.

It's surprisingly easy to make random body parts made out of weird stuff. Nelfa converts can't fly, but as long as they lack the FLIER token they won't be able to, even with a flying gait defined. I know some of my suggestions don't actually have an affect on the game, but it's very important generally to make things as neat and clear as possible, especially if you'll be coming back often to tweak things.

Ganbu have SPHERE_ALIGNMENT:WAR:512, but also have defined religious spheres. I honestly don't know exactly how those two interact, but I prefer to stick to just one. That alignment seems a bit out-of-character for them, so I think you might've just forgotten to delete it. Interesting that they think eating their own race is a personal matter, killing animals is acceptable, but eating other races is unthinkable. Unless that's a mistake.

A bunch of races have the same art image element modifiers and item improvement modifiers and autumn for their active season, not mistakes really, but something you might want to diversify a bit more. The sets of the test are divided in three groups composed of three sets each, in each group the humans will be using a different weapon, for example in the first group the humans will be using platinum hammers, in the second they'll use adamantine battle axes and in the third adamantine spears, this is to see if one of the sets of armor has a particular weakness against a one of the types of weapon (blunt, slashing or piercing). In each set a hundred humans wearing the first set of armor will fight a hundred humans wearing the second set of armor, in individual fights, also, in each set the humans will have different skills, for example, in the first set, the humans will have no skills, while in the second set they will have adept armor user, dodging and weapon skill, and in the third set they will have those same skills but at grand master level, this is the same for each group of sets.

Well, the results speak for themselves, the humans with the full set of armor didn't manage to win once, they came close a few times, but it was never enough, the humans with cloaks clearly have an advantage over them, their set of armor is better, there's no reason to use an adamantine mail shirt, breastplate and greaves if you have an adamantine cloak, the adamantine cloak will cover more and protect better than the three other armor pieces together, and you can stack cloaks, for even more protection. Same thing with adamantine hoods, there is no reason to use an adamantine helm if you have an adamantine hood, and you can stack hoods for even more protection.

Regarding the tournament, the first set of armor (adamantine cloak, hood, pair of gauntlets and pair of high boots) costs 696 points in total, and it would cost even less if tourneyanon didn't decide to double the price of the adamantine cloaks, while the full set of armor (adamantine helm, mail shirt, breastplate, greaves, pair of gauntlets and pair of high boots) costs 1002 points in total. Basically, with the first set of armor, you're getting better protections for 306 less, so there's basically no reason to go and get the full set of adamantine armor.

Depends, I don't think it can travel more than 3 tiles high or wide so you need to generate it where you need it.
Easiest way is to have a room with a tile channeled into a magma reservoir one z-level below and drop items from a dump zone set directly above it on top of a retractable bridge or a hatch.
Or you could use it with a lava moat and a track stop dump atop the wall to create something along the lines of murder holes.

I always Inevitably end up with an above ground castle wall with archer towers, drawbridge, and a moat/"ha-ha" wall, and 90% of the fort being underground. My favorite fort was a double river+waterfall where i had a river run through the central plaza at ground level, and lower down had bridges going across the gap kind of like pic related but with 3 or 4 bridges at varying z levels. Sheer cliffs are fun to work with, making a "protruding" fort for example, water/lavafalls, "mt Rushmore", etc

It's the contrary of a limitation, it's so liberating. I never have to worry about digging the wrong tile and then never being able to have a wall engraving tverey. Sieges/megabeasts don't even need to be modded, it's an advanced world gen option.
You could already do it anyway, even without changing the world-gen options. There's two ways to trigger a siege/megabeast attack: going over the population threshold, and going over the wealth threshold. I see two reasons:
First and foremost it's such an edge case that it'd be extremely hard to balance. It's not just some gentle tradeoff in stats, it's some all-or-nothing almost complete invulnerability. How DO you quantify that?
Second, it's just not an interesting kind of "diverse". It's impossible to counter for other gladiators. It just turns 80% of your body invulnerable. If we have much more interesting ways of defense, why even keep this as an option anyways? Look at our gladiator list, it's not like we're SHORT on diversity here.
