With cards like glyph and all other random spell givers, ice block turns into too big of a hurdle, especially in combination with all the burn. If a mage can hold on to 1 health due 2, 3 or maybe even more ice-blocks.. meanwhile gathering all their OTK burn.. thats just problematic..

It's been said zillion times that ice block could easily be circumvented and tech'ed against if they wanted.

All it needs is minion that deals damage on opponents turn, like "at the start of each turn deal X damage to both heroes" or "deal X damage to hero who casts a spell".

The problem with murloc paladin is that it's capable of extremely scummy curves that you can do very little against, unless you tech in a crab. It's really bad at getting the board back though, so if you manage to secure the early game, there's very little they can do. Rockpool becomes a 2 mana 2/3, warleader is a 3/3, seer is a 3 mana 2/3 and the adapt guy is a 4 mana 5/4. You don't get the board back with those.

31 mage spell in standard. About 10% chance to get ice block from glyph, 3% to get it from book. It's also one of the more unlikely spells secret mage would pick from glyph, so you rarely see secret mages play ice block, hence I put them in the complains about ice block camp.

The adventure model was neat but I much prefer more cards. Any fun the adventure brought was drowned out by how boring the meta stayed because you can't add 20 or so cards and think the entire meta will shift, you just put the best cards from the adventures into the best decks and they stay mostly the same.

There are literally so many mageish cards they can't print because Ice Block existsz it is the sole reason that they can't print even more control-oriented cards for mage than they already do. I like Freeze a lot, but it needs to go even for the sake of people who like playing Mage

Besides, the more board-centric Freeze decks running Medivh over Tony, 2 Firelands Portals, and often a volcanic and sometimes wyrm prove the shell of the archetype can exist without it.

You got one right. Technically two but that's with a tech option. Priest, taunt warrior, control paladin and jade druid generally don't mind ice block that much, because their win condition doesn't need to be to rush the mage down, but outlast the burn. Priests have priest of the feast (and even greater healing potion in some decks) to withstand the burn, taunt warrior has armor up/shield block/armorsmiths, control paladin has ivory knights/forbidden healing/rag and jade druid has feral rage/earthen scales. Against decks that don't run tony, these are usually more than enough to survive the burn. So when they lose to a burn/freeze mage, it's mostly because they did not draw the heals, not because ice block was in the way.

I'm almost exclusively a Freeze player when I play mage which isn't TOO often, and it's a bit too reactionary and not the vest card in the matchup. You want arcanologist turn 2 no matter what so by extention ice block or barrier, but it's not tge greatest draw when you're on the clock to get done the stuff you need to in order to set up. It's important for valet, but ultimately just a small cog in tge the gameplan- if he gets you to 1-3 early he'll just pop you repeatedly and kill you.

Spellbreaker won me that game in particular and countless others. I don't really like running tech cards like crab or crawler but Spellbreaker is good in almost any game as it's able to clear taunt, buffed minions, nasty minions (like lyra) etc. allowing you to clear them or go face.
