This made me a bit curious, so I looked up how the game handles stat growths. Reclassing is definitely possible at some point. All they have to do is adjust stat totals when you jump to a different category, but there's already mechanics in place for that. I tried messing with Tobin as an example.

as you can see, berkut has the worst stat spread. his only redeeming feature is his res. he can tank mages better, but in this meta, it's all about defeating the enemy in one round.

thats why xander and camus are better. xander keeps green mages like julia, spring camilla, nino, etc in check by killing them in one round after tanking a hit. camus can tank a mage hit from other units since no one can double him, especially with honed cavalry speed, and then kill them with dc.

berkut's +res skills just aren't good enough, especially with his poor speed that will get him doubled so easily. it's just never a good idea to let an enemy unit initiate and live. you're asking for them to get danced and kill one of your units with now charged skill.
