After Chromatic Blade came out, there's been some argument about whether Corrosive/Blast or Viral/Radiation is better for it. I did some testing.

Vs lv100 enemies in the simulacrum at a distance of 10m
Aimed for bodyshots
All enemies were blinded for the duration of the test
195% strength Excal, four 90% elementals + CO + PPP (pic related)

Results:

Corr/Blast
Ancient healer: 1 hit (very consistent)
Corpus Tech: 2 hits (very consistent)
Corrupted HG: 5 hits (slight variance, 4-6 hits)

Viral/Rad:
Ancient healer: 2-3 hits (depends on procs, viral first hit = 2 hit kill)
Corpus Tech: 2 hits (very consistent)
Corrupted HG: 8-9 hits (large variance, can take even more depending if you get unlucky procs)

Discussion:

Corr/Blast is superior by a country mile. Normally Blast is a useless proc, but because it counts twice for CO, it actually amplifies CO damage by a large amount. Thus, both Corrosive and Blast are worthwhile procs. Radiation, on the other hand, is literally useless.

Vs Ancient Disruptor: The viral status proc is better, but corr/blast actually proved superior by a significant margin. This is because both corrosive and blast receive 50/75% bonus damage against fossilized flesh.

Vs Corpus Tech: Both builds killed in 2 hits very consistently. A tie.

Vs Corrupted HG: It's difficult to kill high-level grineer without armor stripping, who would've thought? Corr/Blast is again the superior choice by a wide margin. There's some variance depending on how many corrosive procs you get, but even the worst case (6 hits to kill) is still superior to viral/rad's best case (8 hits).

tl;dr - Corr/blast is the best combo for Chromatic Blade

Hey guys, been playing for a few days, and I think I really like this game.

However, there's something I'm sort of confused about, and that's the damage types and what's weak against what. I was reading the Wiki and maybe I'm just retarded or some shit, but an enemy's health bar doesn't give away what it's weak to, but rather the type of enemy it is? Because Slash is most effective against skin, right? So it makes sense for the shielded soldier dudes to have red health after their shield, I figure THAT means Flesh type, but then there are mechanical mobs with red health behind their shields as well, and I can't imagine they would be considered a "Flesh" type. I'm used to Borderlands, wherein the health bar gives away what you need to use, but it doesn't seem so straightforward here, to me anyway.

Except they reverted half those changes because they accidentally added a zero on to that "5 meters" so the Opticor could clear whole tiles with one shot. They fixed that, but also made it so Opticor, and ANY weapon with a shot that has increased hit detection completely unable to hit upper bodies and heads. Then they just outright removed the increased beam size because they literally couldn't figure out how it was breaking every other weapon as well.
