I've only played WHM unfortunately, haven't touched AST since I first picked it up. Going off what I know and what my friends who play it tell me though, I can definitely say I prefer the simplicity of WHM over handling cards and managing buff extensions, even if it's less effective.

WHM/AST here
Both don't feel too different from the 3.x version, however i have more fun as WHM.

AST always felt weird to me.
The card system implemented on 4.x also makes your fuck ups really noticeable, used spread on the wrong card? Now you're stuck with that card forever till you use it.
At least lady/lord of crowns give some use to useless cards.

Dps wise AST is a total borefest, you can fall asleep managing the 2 dps skills that they have.

MCH does have a reason to overheat. You should be overheating every Wildfire that you'll have Barrel Stabilizer up for afterward. I'd like them to fix the entire class so one mistake doesn't completely and utterly fuck your damage for the entire fight, which is already lower than every other job in the first place. 90% of ARR is garbage filler quests until you get to the very end when the alliance nations get their shit together and fight back.

Then 2.0-2.55 is just another slog with a million new side plots thrown into the mix that nobody cares about. The Nanamo plot was ok and it looked like it was going somewhere until 3.0 started and the writers basically said "LEL, DEUS EX MACHINA FOR ALL THAT, NOBODY DIED, LETS MOVE ON"

3.0 was good, Ishgard got the attention that everyone was wanting and then in typical FFXIV fashion, everything after it was garbage, just like ARR.

Haven't got far through SB yet but it's not particularly interesting so far. Jap writers rely far too much on anime tropes and ridiculous luck with everything.

I enjoy the game but there is nothing to "immerse" yourself in with this game. You can dip your head in a puddle and experience more immersion.

I can't tell if I'd be more useful as a big dick dps class instead of sometimes blocking a small amount of damage and giving everyone slight buffs in damage.

BRD contributes roughly 2% raid-wide damage. In a good group, this is more or less equivalent of 500 of the raid's damage being you simply for existing.

In a less skilled group, you may only add 300 damage in addition to your own simply for existing.

Basically, if you're top tier, if you're doing around 500 less than the SAM, you're worth the same as the SAM. The moment you start doing 499 less than the SAM, you're worth more simply for existing.


In a less skilled group, same logic applies but you'd have to be within 300 damage of the SAM.

Honestly i'm looking at Bard like it's a Fire Mage in Cata/MoP.
Shit at the start but due to the rise in Crit stat and how they benefit from it, around mid expansion they'll overtake some Melee in dps. I really like the support aspect they put into Bard right now and how you have to juggle songs (albeit as easy as it is, it's still interactive due to the procs) and their dps isn't /THAT/ bad (it's bad but not machinist bad :^)). I'm just looking forward to higher Critical Hit numbers to make their dps go up sky high.

So I'm gonna be leveling my second job to 70. And it'll become my main; switching from AST to WHM. So all my 320 items will still be good! (I've yet to farm Susano EX, so yay)
Anyway I was planning on spamming dungeons the entire time 60-70. Is that feasible/recommended? I should mention I hate questing. And I couldn't care less about the story.
