Be aware, Thargs are currently grabbing ships out of witchspace and giving out complementary rectal probings, it is advised you shoot the fuck out of them whenever possible, or just go with it if that's your thing, I ain't tellin you how to live. Apparently the Ayylmaos are rumbling again, inquire within if this means goddamned thing or if its just Braben trying to scare up some more money.

Hey can someone spoonfeed me please?

I haven't played Elite Dangerous since before Horizons released whenever that was.

Seems(on the surface) like there's been a lot added to the game, is any of it good?

Is it worth getting back into at all?

What are some of the update highlights?

Is it still shit to make any dosh?
>>
>>182332110
>Seems(on the surface) like there's been a lot added to the game, is any of it good?
They have introduced various quality of life improvements, some of them good. YMMV

>Is it worth getting back into at all?
If you want to play the BGS, roleplay, not play just for the grind then maybe yeah.

>What are some of the update highlights?
Bugfixes and ayyyyyys if you care about them

>Is it still shit to make any dosh?
Almost all of the exploits have now been fixed.
>>
>>182320780
So you're talking about 2015-2017. Here's my summary starting from around this time of year 24 months ago.

They released the social module, which is basically one level which would eventually serve as a planetside hub that you walk around and socialize in. This level looked decent but was devoid of any gameplay other than talking to other players.

The biggest thing to happen by far in the last two years was the release of Alpha 2.0, also known as the "Baby Persistent Universe", or simply Crusader (which is the single planet present in the zone). For the first time in the history of the alpha, you had a genuine space sim environment where you could warp to different locations and complete a few missions. They then released a number of updates to the Baby P.U. including new ships, weapons, armor, clothing, balance passes, and a new location.

Well before the release of Alpha 2.0, they had contracted the studio Illfonic to create the First Person Shooter module called Star Marine, as well as lay the foundation of Star Citizen's FPS mechanics in general. However, due to miscommunication and a lack of production oversight on the part of Cloud Imperium Games, Illfonic developed Star Marine using the wrong metrics and thus their work was largely incompatible with the rest of the game CIG had already been building. As a result, Illfonic was dropped and CIG brought development of Star Marine in-house, and had to start from scratch in many respects. This lead to a huge delay, but Star Marine eventually released as part of Alpha 2.6 (it was originally intended to come out before Alpha 2.0).

(Continued)
>>
>>182332695
Since the release of 2.6, there have been a few smaller patches, but most development has centered on the upcoming Alpha 3.0 which will add three fully explorable moons and one moon-sized asteroid, cargo hauling and the first stages of a simulated economy, new missions, character customization, and new ships, weapons, and armor to Crusader. It was originally supposed to come out by the end of last year and feature an entire solar system, but it was delayed and scaled back in terms of scope.

No. In fact, most of it is still fairly broken or downright pointless.

>Is it worth getting back into at all?
It has never been worth getting into and that remains the case.

>What are some of the update highlights?
The ayys, but even that's being dragged out and hasn't had any real value or effect on anything.

>Is it still shit to make any dosh?
Yes. It will never NOT be shit to make money because the game's travel mechanics are hot fucking garbage, but everything relies on travel, so...

Next update is The Return. Ayys come back, more QUALITY FDev story-telling and they're supposedly going to focus on a lot of QoL features. It's slated for later this year. Expect disappointment.

Doesnt really matter what any of us believes anyway.

This is going to stay /Erectile Dysfunction/Shitposting Community General/ until something actually happens with these two games.

It doesnt matter if we talk about the games or not.
Everything in SC is going to end up totally different than what we expect if "insert feature" even make it into the game.

So far they are just downplaying or straight out scrapping most of what that they promised in 2014.

PS. ED is still unfun as hell and only works as a space grinder with a decsent VR support.
>>
>>182346034
3.0 is going to be a disappointment. The general will probably have content for a month, but after that people are going to stop caring.
Is 4.0 going to be the last major content update? How many major content updates are we getting?
>>
>>182350548
3.0 will probably be pretty good.

But people are still going to be disappointed. Partly from CIGs promises, and partly from their own ridiculous hype-fueled expectations. It was a mistake for CIG to wait this long. They need to do smaller, more frequent patches.

Maybe just save main mechanics like mining, farming, etc. for big patches.
>>
>>182350664
The moons will be cool... tech demos. There won't be much to do on them.
The PU isn't getting much as far as network optimization, so performance should stay relatively the same (poor) performance
why will 3.0 be particularly good, apart from being an interesting tech demo?
>>
>>182350548
Since CIG said they wanted to give us 2-3 "major" releases this year, we can maybe expect 1 half release, something like a stripped down 3.0.

They will tell us at CitizenCon that SQ42 and 3.1 is just around the corner and mention theyare talking about weeks, not months, but it will be at least February until we get some of the content that were said to be in 3.0.

THIS IS JUST A GUESS PULLED STRAIGHT OUT OF MY ASS,
but so far the statistics seems to back it up to some degree taking last years CitizenCon in mind.
>>
>>182350924
>The PU isn't getting much as far as network optimization
This stupid-ass meme needs to die. We're getting loads of network optimizations
>>
>>182350664

3.0 will only be a test to see if the tech holds up.
3.0 wont introduce anything new to play with.
We already have mission givers to some degree and landing on planets is going to become old after a very short while, but the tech is important to make the world feel seemless.

Hopefully 3.0 will be stable and let CIG release some huge content patches right after.
>>
>>182351251
>3.0 wont introduce anything new to play with.
We're getting cargo runs, m8.

3.0 comes out and Star Citizen literally has feature parity with ED.
>>
>>182351009
I've only heard that performance is expected to stay more or less the same, optimizations just keeping up with increased demand for network performance.
>>182350960
I wonder what they're going to show at citizencon to keep the hype train going. citcon 2016's presentation was pretty fucking sick but a year has passed and the content still is delivered. Not sure if they can pull citizencon 16 off again.
>>
>>182351445
>I've only heard that performance is expected to stay more or less the same, optimizations just keeping up with increased demand for network performance.
That maybe the case. I haven't played it and we haven't gotten any "real" footage yet, so it's hard to say.

Still, there are quite a few network optimizations in 3.0.
>>
>>182351815
>we haven't gotten any "real" footage yet
Why the fuck haven't we?
That has been a major gripe for me with Star Citizen for a while now.
They never actually show us the fucking build, they just show is snippets and bits and pieces and 2 second clips here and there in AtV
>>
>>182351960
I wish they'd just spend happy hour playing through some of the latest build, instead of the garbage we usually get.
>>
>>182352143
Would make it worth watching.
I don't know why CIG laud themselves as "unprecedented open development" when 3.0 has been in development for months yet we have seen literally nothing as far as uncut gameplay goes.
AtV isn't even worth watching.
>>
>>182351431

There are 1000s of other time consuming things to introduce that I'm sure is more fun than fucking cargo runs.

>Seems(on the surface) like there's been a lot added to the game, is any of it good?
Sort of. There's been a lot of QoL upgrades, and Horizons has added planetary landings, Engineers (upgrade your ship modules), ship-launched fighters, and multicrew. All in all, there's been a decent amount of stuff added, the problem is that there's still nothing much in the way of impactful gameplay that doesn't feel grindy.
>Is it worth getting back into at all?
At this point, I usually just play for a few weeks after each major update, then get bored again until the next one.
>What are some of the update highlights?
Alien gameplay is coming up next, but it remains to be seen whether or not it will be any good. Given that we're talking about FDev, it probably won't be interesting enough to hold anyone's attention for more than a little while.
>Is it still shit to make any dosh?
As far as I know, most of the old money-making tricks have been fixed, so you pretty much have to play the game "as intended" to make any serious cheddar.
>>
>>182341667
After the alien update (2.4), FDev has said they're planning to focus on improving QoL and fleshing out the core gameplay experience. No idea what exactly that will entail, or if it will be any good.
>>
>>182362428

How do you have fun in Elite Dangerous?

Serious question here. Its pretty and atmospheric and all, but what actual gameplay is there? I've been trying to find it for some hours now, no luck. Does it get better as you upgrade your ships/ get longer range? Or is it just a grindfest, and nothing more?
>>
>>182363384
Elite Dangerous is the game of watching loading screens. Traveling isn't about how long it takes to get there, but how many loading screens you'll have to see.

Any fun you find is fun you've made for yourself.
>>
>>182363845
I never thought I'd say this, but I think I'll just stick to X Rebirth until SC comes out. I've gotten back to it recently for the first time after the launch fiasco, and so far it actually seems playable, even fun in an arcade-y kind of way.

Panther Clipper's thing was that it was the largest ship that could go through the mailslot on the standard space station. It wasn't the largest freighter, those were the "Long Range Cruisers" and the "Lynx Bulk Freighter" which were much, much larger but relied on small craft to transfer cargo.

Seems like CIG has gone into daily delays.
Yesterday it said August 20-24th.

Like some anon here said a few threads ago.
The release date will always be 5-7 weeks away no matter which point in time you choose.

>>182384465
What pisses me off is that you're CONSTANTLY offered missions that you can't take because your reputation isn't high enough. Why the fuck even show me that? If I were to go out and raise my reputation, then when I come back the board regens and that mission would be gone anyfuckingway. And if that's their way of showing what kind of missions you get at higher rep, then it's completely asinine because these missions and rewards are all over the place; there's no real scaling. At max rep for some factions, the rewards are often less than 400,000cr; fucking pennies, basically. Meanwhile, I'll randomly get missions that give me millions just for doing a fly-by on outposts and taking out a generator (which is crazy fun to do, but still). Nothing in this game makes sense. I hope the ayys swing through the galaxy and fucking kill us all; we deserve it for playing this game.

How do you fuck up this bad? All you have to do is generate a mission based off a preset that falls at X% rep and below, or a mission preset that falls between X% rep and Y% rep. Jesus christ, what are they doing with the money they got for this game because it's definitely not spent on programmers and designers.

So as much as I love the Diamondback Explorer, I'm thinking it just might be time to upgrade, but as always I'm just not sure where to go. I'd like a good Multipurpose ship, something that can have some good cargo space, good handling and speed and some nice weapons. My biggest problem is with the final bit. I just don't really know how the weapon sizes stack up with each other. I've seen people go from the Diamonback Explorer to the Asp Explorer, is four small and two medium an upgrade from two medium and one large?

Any Ideas?

>CIG blatantly skirting the FTC regulations about sponsored content after Machinima made it clear as a bell for everyone.
Color me surprised. The most worrying thing for me about this project isn't the game itself, it's the company going down over some preventable shit, like not making their affiliates disclose their direct sponsorship.
>>
>>182441454

If you ever actually studied business ethics, you would know one of the hallmarks is avoid the appearance of impropriety. Maybe they aren't doing anything wrong, but it really looks like they are doing something wrong and no one is doing anything to clarify this from either side. No streamer has ever said that they aren't sponsored, and none of them have disclosed sponsorship. CIG has promoted many streamers on their content directly, but it's unusual that none of them are officially sponsored by CIG, even though they have endless game packages and gift cards to give away to fans.

The aspX is certainly an upgrade. The problem is you want to multirole but until you reach python levels, it'll be a bit difficult to find a really good loadout. I use my aspX for all exploration, an FAS for combat and generally a main ship, and an FDL as pure combat.

>>182442607
fucks sake man, its not "MUH ILLEGAL"
It's just that all thier business practices lately have been taking a turn towards the shady and greedy.

it LOOKS bad, and appearances are literally what this project floats on. Goodwill of backers and the ability to refer new new backers in good conscience. When CIG hasnt delivered anything in a year and is acting shady as fuck in every interaction, how am I supposed to go to my friends and get then to spend 60 bucks or more? Unless I am a "compensated" shill I have real trouble doing that.

My own desire to log in and play is dead, I dont regret my money in, but I cannot ell anyone their going to enjoy the game, and I cannot tell them that they can trust CIG to be honest, because I can't do those things myself.

The difference between an ethics violation and a criminal act, like embezzling, is that the burden of proof is on the participants in the business activity. They aren't innocent until proven guilty. CIG is responsible for making sure what they make complies with the rules on advertising, like the entire rest of US internet has. The streamers are equally as responsible. Vanoss, Seananners, and plenty of others disclose their ties to a game when they make a video on it. No one who make SC content does this and it's weird.

Have you considered maybe that's because they don't have any?

Every giveaway I've seen done, the person either explicitly said it came out of their own pocket/patreon, or they named the person who donated it. Studio tours are free to any person willing to sign the NDA.

You're fucking paranoid. You're looking for a reason to get upset. It's melodramatic as hell. You look like a /pol/ster crying "shill!" haha le ebin dude $0.05 deposited to ur account XD

Do you expect everyone who makes a video on something to constantly tell you that they're not sponsored? That's insane.

>>
>>182444159
>Do you expect everyone who makes a video on something to constantly tell you that they're not sponsored?
There is a very clear rule about this, and it is unusual for over a dozen streamers to use the same model of collecting donations to fund a game package for a giveaway in exchange for exposure by the creator of the game they are profiting from.
If you are a small time pissant, who cares what you disclose. If you have been to CIG and appeared in their content, then your position needs to be clear.
>>
>>182444469
>it is unusual for over a dozen streamers to use the same model of collecting donations to fund a game package for a giveaway
Giveaways are insanely common in online games where you can buy things with money. And patreon is the standard these days.

>in exchange for exposure by the creator of the game they are profiting from.
What the actual fuck are you talking about? The only time I've ever seen SC youtubers mentioned by CIG in any official capacity is when they've done something noteworthy and get into Citizens of the Stars. And those appearances are rare, which means it's nowhere near preferential.

those are for mining only right
I mean, can you use them to pick up stuff that drops when ships blow up?
>>
>>182452526
I'm talking about in the context of the game, where a copilot in a vulture has nothing to do unless you put turrets on the ship, which would be retarded on a vulture. Compared to the keelback, where a second player could fly the fighter, but is not allowed to have a second player.
>>
>>182454304
I use them for mining but I did read they can take stolen stuff so maybe they take everything in the area
>>
>>182454304

How's the adder after the sidewinder for mining/hauling ? Maybe something else ?
>>
>>182455015
Hauler is the next logical step if hauling. Then the type series after that. I don't do much mining but a type 7 seems like the first real mining ship.

After the 7, the type 9 does mining even better. Use EDDB to find a pristine metallic ring and if you see painite in a rock after probing it, mine that shit. Really good money for that material. It's worth the trip for that ring.
>>182456114
The aspX does combat pretty decently too. It's not going to beat out more combat oriented ones but bridges the gap nicely. You see a lot of AI aspx in CZs for a reason.

Hull damage?
Read the conditions to prevent shit from happening.

Something I did a few days ago is find a highly populated system in war/civil war/outbreak/civil unrest and load a bunch of economy cabins with refugees/pow/protesters, if you're lucky most of them will require to be delivered to the same 2 or 3 destinations.
You'll be sent fags to hunt you down, so either get armed or learn how to evade interdictions and reach you destination quickly.

>travelling in this game is actual, factual cancer
Check out how to neutron boost, still cancer but a bit less so, requires some planning out and maneuvering.
>>
>>182475560
>load a bunch of economy cabins with refugees/pow/protesters
Additional note: these 1-way "transport" mission count as TRADE and not EXPLORATION for some retarded reason, so if you're looking to rank up better ignore.
>>
>>182475560
No hull damage. Might have just been a bug. Don't even care, though; cargo that can bitch and moan was a dumb idea in the first place. Neutron boosting is a really cool concept, but supercruise is such a garbage slog that it's not worth doing anything that has me spend more than ~5 minutes in it.

Short-range deliveries and murder seem like the only things that offer a relatively decent pay-out and don't waste a metric fuck ton of time.

Check out 1-way transport missions like I said, they can pay up decently, and they usually focus 1-3 destinations only.

Neutron boosting is only worth it for long ass trips, if you're into going far relatively fast.
>anything that has me spend more than ~5 minutes in it

Hi I just learned about Star Citizen and I've been watching their Youtube videos since Thursday (I watched the episode of Around The Verse). I also just watched this Bug Smashers video and I noticed that the gameplay in this one looked very different to the one in Around The Verse? I remember reading that Star Citizen is actually 2 games. Has the one shown in Bug Smashers been in development for less time or? It just looks very rough compared to the epic stuff I saw in Around The Verse! Can someone please explain this to me, I want to know if I should buy this game.

It's sneak peeks like this that really confuse me. They clearly have more of the game done than they really let on, so why? Why keep it a secret? Why not show us mechanics? Show us a cargo run. Show us the cargo terminals they've been working on. Show us more of the new mobiglas apps. Show us the inside of the new cutlass. Show us fucking SOMETHING more than prepared fly-overs. They clearly have it, but they don't want to show it off. It doesn't make any sense.

How many years before SC ? (according to them and realistically)

For ED, I stopped playing before the events with the ayylmao. Are they in the game yet ? What are they going to do ? Give us more grinding missions ?
Did Frontier talked about the future of the game ? Like adding more social tools and features, coop missions, space race, space tournaments, arena with your own ship ? Did they made the SOL system the default one where you can meet up people and do stuff with them ? Is the powerplay still broken and useless ? Can you make your own guild/alliance and buy a space station, equip it and raid other people's stations in group which would result in epic battles ?
Do they plan landing on planets with atmosphere ?

They make it seem like they are cool or the underdogs, but issues with mod abuse such as Shive, Moonshiner the cross dressing faggot, to Montoya just checking out as a guild leader.

They are trying to make a community of streamers for profit and instead they have a community of some very autistic, uneducated retards. Its not even fun to be in there, its just a wasteland of idles.

However CIG supports them, and CIG people go in there from time to time/

They are very liberal and politically correct group. They draw people in with stupid slogans that they are drunk and amazing, which is actually the opposite of what they are, say anything that goes against their hive think and you will see people banned.

Its a weird group, I could go further into detail, but I am just gonna sit back and watch them self destruct.

that's the truth, but you'd imagine with multicrew shit that all of that would be filled up by, you know, the rest of the crew, but there's fucking nothing. You could shrink the ship down so you have a reasonable cockpit, you could bring up the wall in the back and have another interior thing for whatever the fuck.

The problem is that we the backers have more power and we let them fuck us over.

Price creeps
Shitty packages

There is nothing wrong with this. Incentive early backing is good. The only people who bitch about this are people who wanted to "wait" and now they're not getting the same payout for a lower-rosk investment and they're butthurt about it.

Also, I don't think CIG is intentionally fucking anyone over. Most of what they're doing, the community has TOLD them they want. Unfortunately the community is filled with idiots.

CIG has been using tactics to get the most money out of its fanbase. They have gone back on promises and the donors have also been manipulated to an extent.

CIG is a business and to think they are doing things out of the kindness of their heart is a lie. The fanbase is a cult, and its hard to be objective when someone is screaming that everything they do is for the good of the game.

I do see however that CIG pulling a loan is a sign that they are having some financial difficulties, and even if they did add all the ships for sale at anytime, (which they should), and offered whatever players wanted for credit sales, warbonds, etc it is still not enough.

CR is in it for the money, and outward he may say its because he wants to build a space sim game, he was way over his head and experience, and its the fault of the fan base for believing they would get a game within a certain set time.

Lastly, CIG is employing supply and demand tactics, but it can only last so long, as more people take notice, prepare for some changes on things when it comes to deals. As anything has taught us with warbonds, its best to wait until they are desperate as that is when the best deals happen. Also if more people stopped accepting CIGs tactics, we could all benefit and get a better deal than what they have been spoon feeding us.

How the fuck do you have salvage mechanics and old derelict ships in the same game? Wouldn't all the salvage ships have already cleaned up all the derelict crash sites? If you can strip back layers of a ship with your handheld repair tool, why hasn't someone recovered all that crashed ship for raw resources.
The only reason a ship would be a derelict is that it is too expensive to recover, otherwise it hasn't been salvaged yet.
>>
>>182551420
The universe is big and not all space is monitored, I don't see why there wouldn't be plenty of derelict ships left to explore.
>>
>>182551420
>what's the point of having salvage mechanics if someone can salvage it before you do

>>
>>182551632
That shit from the Homestead demo made no sense. That crashed ship had the engines and components removed, but the sand people couldn't figure out the whole repair tool thing, so they camp out in an extremely exposed area and just deal with the sand worms and sand storms.

Either the UEE removed all those parts and didn't recover the hull for some reason, or the sand people are intelligent enough to disassemble a ship, but not intelligent enough to figure out the repair tool, or to leave once they are done.
>>182551970
My point is that derelicts are temporary resource locations, not named persistent game locations.

>Either the UEE removed all those parts and didn't recover the hull for some reason, or the sand people are intelligent enough to disassemble a ship, but not intelligent enough to figure out the repair tool, or to leave once they are done.
Why would it be profitable to scrap an entire hull? It's just scrap metal. You don't see people salvaging every part of a car after a wreck. At best it winds up in a landfill somewhere. The components and certain parts of the hull are what's valuable. Most of it is probably junk.

>My point is that derelicts are temporary resource locations, not named persistent game locations.
One, they can easily generate more derelicts randomly. Players only account for about 10% of the world's population from a simulation perspective. Two, player wrecks can also be salvaged.
>>
>>182552259
Something else, a module for when you approach a station/planet
>>
>>182552306
>player wrecks can also be salvaged.
that's really more what I was getting at. You can recover player ships eventually. It will be pretty dissonant if you can't go up to the old ships and recover them the same way, profitable or not.

Ancient, magically unsalvagable, derelicts? No.

Homestead demo. Sand people were camping there, but not taking the ship apart. If that's the model for gameplay locations, there is a paradox they will have to cross as some point where they either let players use repair tools on derelicts or restrict them from doing it somehow to preserve the location.
>>
>>182552986
>Sand people were camping there, but not taking the ship apart.
Okay? Why would they? Again, most of what's left is probably scrap. There's no particular reason to salvage it.

>there is a paradox they will have to cross as some point where they either let players use repair tools on derelicts or restrict them from doing it somehow to preserve the location.
That's not a paradox, but whatever. They can easily spawn derelict ships wherever and whenever. If you've watched AtV, they've put a great deal of dev time into that spawning. It would be trivial to spawn derelicts for specific missions, or on a timer, or any number of similar schemes. There's no reason to prevent players from salvaging them. There is no conflict here.
>>
>>182552986
It's obvious they're going to be procedural and not permanent, numbnuts

FPS in online game modes is poor due to network performance right now. Some fixes should come in 3.0, with more coming in subsequent patches.

Still it probably wouldn't hurt if you delivered Titanium, Aluminium, Copper or Tea ( which ever one is cheapest, because only quantity counts) and got reward for lowest tier. Why is free to play game like warframe keep growing and adding massive new things to the game while $60+ game like elite takes a fucking year to add minor features?

Is it because warframe makes more money by selling in game currencies and items for irl money?
Should Elite just go free to play so that dads can finally get out of their Cobra, buy Anacondas and Clippers and at the same time add more budget to the game?

Anon, we've now what will and won't be permanent for years now.
https://youtu.be/N2K1CH22SF8?t=372

When you'll accept a mission, you are dynamically routed as needed into instances separate from others players.
That Homestead wreck? If it was part of a mission or just a localization the server would simply pull you in another instance where you personally didn't loot that wreck.
And that's for handcrafted mission, other wrecks are procedurally generated for grinding purpose.

It's basic MMO mechanic, they need resources that respawn to reward gameplay

Honest question, how much of this is just purely cosmetic and the same basic projectile& area-of-effect mechanic with different settings?

Most F2P are scam that make you believe there's something incredible if you keep grinding, but actually only cater to the 5% whales who will spend 100$ to get better stuff faster.
It haven't hit the new, but I'd bet money that they code their matchmaking to put wealthy spender against outclassed freeloader.

Elite take years to add anything because their game and marketing are fundamentally flawed no matter how honest they are.
They want a 1000000 stars galaxy, so nearly nothing can be handcrafted and everything must be compatible with procedural generation
They need players to keep playing despite the lack of gameplay, so everything need to take hours to do.

Star Citizen is hopefully taking the correct approach, but that's easier when you have money beyond your wildest dream.

Don't confuse same universe and same instance. Yes players will all be able to meet, but if there's too many players at the same place they'll dynamically move players between instances based on their relationship.

Also they promise 32 players in the same area and aim for 200, to quote:
>The problem we still need to figure out is how to handle everyone heading to the same place at the same time. I'm not sure there's an engineering solution to that one, so it may require some game mechanic to prevent too many players congregating in the same place.

>TL;DR - yes, once all the pieces are in place and the kinks have been worked out, you'll be able to stalk your prey, and should always be in the same instance.

lolno. the animations, the assets, all of them exist for the game already. this is just drop derelict->set npc walk path->pan camera.

if anything it shows how easy it is for them to crank this stuff out, compared to when we used to wait months for ship commercials. remember the expo thing they did? a different vid every day for a week, using a format they previously had taken months to make and hyped up beforehand.

It makes less sense having to log off/back in to get more missions.
>>
>>182622849
It wouldn't make sense in-universe because a bounty board system where you could rip off all notices and pin up random new ones would be absurd. You can't just create work to do. That's what a refresh button would do.

Of course, reloading the board by mode-switching makes no sense, but it's not endorsed by the game (it's instead a handy side effect of the game's solo/open nature) so it making sense in the context of the game world isn't even a consideration. Hope that explains it.
>>
>>182623293
Just think those missions you are presented with are not everything available, only the agents' pickings, so to speak, you'll be just asking for more.
Systems population most often than not can go up to a few hundred millions if no billions, I sincerely doubt there's only 5 dudes with bounties on them.
The galaxy is fuck huge and so are factions, even minor ones, it's sad if it's true there are only like 5 trade deals going on.
When I'm using log off/on trick to get more passenger missions to same destination I "roleplay" in my head I'm waiting at the station heading to every travel agent office asking for people with the same destination over and over until I'm complete.

You know where I'm going with this, you can always find a valid excuse to make gameplay/mechanics more flexible and convenient.
Hell they justified the whole "you are automatically transported to the other side of the galaxy because dude telepresence lmao" didn't they.

>I can see Frontier making us pay credits to reroll the board in some future patch, though.

Naah usually people in production are those who are 'failed' artists or people who just couldn't do it. It takes a certain kind of person to be able to 'produce' - this is, he's a good talker and good pretender. These are his skills. I have seen this million times that people who work in production, producer or manager are most often talentless cunts who just pretend while artists slave away.

But in Star Citizen's case I think this could be good thing though if he blackmails and confronts Chris more.

Anon, producer is a specific skillset that are critical to making projet. Many artists can't manage things until completion, they get distracted by nifty ideas, overlook complexity, features synergy.
A producer typically have the drive to do something great but also to have something to show at the end.

We have a clear example here: Chris Robert is an artist. He may be the global ideas sort but he is an artist.
As a producer... he isn't particularly good. His Wing Commander movie failed big time because he couldn't fot all the ideas he had into a two hour movie with a limited budget.

The best allies and worst threat to Star Citizen is CR himself

I swear I don't have a producer in my family nor hope to become one

>and simply will not exist in the game unless 12GB of VRAM suddenly becomes the cheap standard for PCs
>12GB of VRAM
Star Citizen uses relatively small textures. Only about 1K or so. You don't need a lot of VRAM for that. Most of the overhead for what you're looking at would be processing shaders which has very little to do with VRAM. You have no idea what you're talking about.

Also
>nothing else other than the rendered scenery is being processed
That's exactly how culling and LOD work and it's how literally any game of this scale works.

Cinematic tool, rather. cryengine is free now i think you can check it out if you want.

i'm not saying theyre bullshitting people or hiding something, they mention using it in several ATVs for these clips. it's just that they mesh the 2 types of footage in the same videos without making it clear to the viewers which is actual ingame, player-camera gameplay running at maybe 40fps on a good day (15-25fps being the last we saw from planet landing and atmo flight) and which is cinematic mode footage with lighting/particle/fog effects that arent in the game yet, cranked to the max at 60fps in an engine tool designed to focus all computing power on what is on screen

regardless these scenes are all being played out in small controlled environments, if not just standalone chunks of map with nothing else to process - on monster rigs being used to develop it in the first place

I abandoned one after it kinda wiped my progress. I wasnt playing for months, can I still get the mission?

Also if you have a big ship, quince passenger grind at Jeffries high gives 7.5 million out of a 0.18Ls trip. adds up to ~37 million per hour. Almost better than painite exploit. board generation is quite generous, 3 re-logs at worst case, just get missions 900k and up, their destination doesnt matter inside the system. I am gaining shit ton of imperial ranks too, much faster than courier grinding, probably made it to King rep wise since I didnt take any ascension missions.

That's fair. You're not really buying a game, after all, you're investing. With the dividend hopefully being a fun game. Still, depending on how much risk you're willing to deal with, grab a $45 starting game package and give the game a shot. The dog-fighting and FPS combat that are currently in 2.6.3 are reasonably fun. The mechanics are solid, at least, and it's got a good gamefeel. Plus, you can earn REC in-game to rent ships.

>>182653991
It's tempting. I really want to get the best possible VR experience, so I'd rather get a Vive over an Oculus, (plus fuck Facebook). Only problem is it's way too expensive to justify the price when VR games are all fucking tech demos and no company gives enough of a shit to put the money in to develop a proper VR game, legitimize the platform, build an install-base, and eventually bring the price of these things down due to an increased economy of scale.

you're right on the noaems thing, but I think it's mostly a chicken-egg situation: no games because no user-base, no user-base because no games

So, CIG has said they're going to have planets rotating and orbiting their star in 3.0.

Have they mentioned how that's going to work with regards to relativistic velocities? I know they've said they're not going to go full kerbal space program autism with their simulation, which is completely fine, but it raises a lot of questions.

Will all planets orbit at the same velocity? When I'm near a planet and my ship's velocity read-out says 0, does that mean I'm in a geostationary orbit? When do I get locked to that orbit? When I QM in? How far away would I have to fly using sub-light engines before I break away from orbit? In fact relativity poses a huge problem for Star Citizen as a whole.

>>182655029
>you're right on the noaems thing, but I think it's mostly a chicken-egg situation: no games because no user-base, no user-base because no games
Yeah, I won't pretend it's an easy problem, but like I said, someone just needs to bite the bullet and make a "killer app" instead of everyone just "testing the waters". I mean fuck, we know what the waters are like, there's no games and no one is going to take it seriously until someone makes a game so just make a game already god damn.

I have been considering an oculus more heavily though. The more I think about it, the more I realize I don't really want room-scale VR that bad. I mostly just want it for the POV and head-look.

A lot of your question can be answered by "SC use fictional physics" and "it have been in video game since a long time"

> relativistic velocities
I think you mean relative velocity, "relativistic velocity" refer to the theory of Einstein "general relativity" where speed closing to 10% of the speed of light start having space-time wedgy (that won't be in SC)
This won't matter in SC since Qdrive ignore all that shit

>Will all planets orbit at the same velocity?
No (why would they even need to ?)
The game automatically hack away the real science
also SC planetary system are like 1/3 of what they would be in reality, the planet speed will also be halved to match.

>When I'm near a planet and my ship's velocity read-out says 0, does that mean I'm in a geostationary orbit?
The game will not give you control over your orbit so using non-game speed is pointless to you.
You'll be stationary relative to whatever is important in a zone and gravity will not apply unless you cross the magic atmospheric barrier
At least that was the plan
I'm pretty sure you could find the answer here
http://www.scqa.info/?keywords=

>When do I get locked to that orbit? When I QM in?
yes

>How far away would I have to fly using sub-light engines before I break away from orbit?
They probably have an arbitrary number for that

It does. the Explorer/Combat class of ships really interest me, but the Asp Scout is, to me, just down right bad compared to the DBX.

I'm sure the fact that I hate how the Asp in general looks isn't helping me at all, either. Maybe I should just use my AspX for straight up cargo, and grab some better weapons for my DBX to keep it as my main ship...

So I've not kept up with SC since, well, why bother, but have they changed anything about the Reliant? It apparently got pretty smacked around when it went live from the test stuff. Have they changed anything like that? I love transforming ships, so I really like it.

That's literally what the schedule report says, yes. Good job, you can read.

so why did they not heavily control and PR glam the 15 fps clips last week? perhaps they're just actually working on the game and it's getting better?

It's a gimmicky shitbox. The transformation adds nothing, last time I tried it it handled like shit and it barely has any cargo for its giant size. Once one of the wings gets shot off (which happens quite easily) you lose half your mav thrusters and it becomes pretty much impossible to fly.
