Streamed some eu4 for amerimen and named provinces after them based on where they live

The american war for indepence in 1776 in eu4 isn't actually an independence war like those that can happen when a colonial starts the war, it seemed to technically be an imperialist war so there was no peace deal that made me dependent on great britain.

I defeated the first british army that landed, and then stackwiped it in a neighbouring province.

Then I got impatient and greedy though and started beating up natives, they don't have their reforms ready and they were all like 17 techs behind so it was just a stomp.
Second british army I couldn't give the -2 penalty from crossing from a boat, because of that, then they took a province, I defeated them, but they ran much furhter so I couldn' stackwipe them, then a second army arrived.
Pretty much out of manpower.

Decided to just give them maine and some extra stuff.
It was immediately transferred to Thirteen Colonies, which I could attack without involving Great Britain.
Something I've noticed in other games where I've had my capitol in america, colonial overlords don't seem to protect their colonial subjects.

If you're playing as a shithole with high literacy but absolutely 0 social reforms then rebels are expected, yeah. I can't describe how I felt when I first heard this theme when I played my first game of EUIV, on release day, fighting for the right of Livonia to exist, no matter the cost.

And all the really emotional times it's come up since. It always seems to come up when I've faced the most outright wars of extinction, of my right to exist.

Always played in my few games I've done as Revolutionary America. It feels amazing assaulting the British in Boston with it blaring in the background. I know it more immediately brings thoughts of the Age of Exploration with it's guitar style, but the acceleration of the song helps it stay in any period. Though I've also had it play during my first colonies. Damn does it feel good.

Victoria 2 was almost overboard with America love, with Germans fighting the Confederates, culminating in American cruisers bombarding London.

It may have declined in recent years, coinciding nearly with the increased emphasis on sjwism there. This leads me to think Johan specifically requested this. We Americans should be lucky to have such an American fan nestled deep. Let us hope that his coup may succeed one day, and Paradox return to it's roots.

Yeah just putting a hammer and sickle and calling it a day is pretty bad. Check out all of the Eastern Bloc states. A lot just kept their national flag and threw on a coat of arms. If West Germany wasn't a thing, East Germany would've just stuck to a tricolor.

Even worse is putting up overcomplicated flags like this. Complicated flags were more of a British thing (see the Dominions and even the Union Jack itself), otherwise the focus was to make flags so simple a kid could draw them to inspire patriotism.

The thing is, the predilection to make really simple flags is not a universal phenomena. The European fetish for tricolors was not because of drawing simplicity, but because they were associated with the French Revolution, and certain follow on ancedotes. It was happy coincidence for state educators and the emergent nationalism that since then, it's easy to draw. But that wasn't the original reason. And because a lot of states only used royal standards before. Nations that started as republics, or remained republics, tended to keep that symbolism (Venice was a good example, and the New World countries).

The New World liked to stick with slightly more complicated flags. And Asia liked to stick with national symbols, but reinterpreted.

I think American socialism would use the first flag desu. American socialists would be insulted by the notion that 'the workers' only needed or wanted simple banners. That was the case for Europe - it would have smacked of people saying the proletariat were too dumb or stupid to make an effort at aesthetic art, and symbols.

Also, American socialists were a very patriotic bunch, even American communists were, besides a few outliers like Foster and the like, who took orders from Moscow. Communism symbology would never be allowed to predominate over the national symbols. Stalin was the one who really brought the phrase of American Exceptionalism into the modern lexicon, in his complaints of the American delegations, in spite of their outsize efforts to socialism in history.

Now that you put it like that, I can agree. Especially on the communist US not just throwing down and accepting a Comintern. There's the assumption that communism would just be the same everywhere. I think its also wrong to say that say, British fascism would be exactly the same as continental fascism. One of the reasons why Mosley failed, though I'd say his movement could've gotten a victory if the UK was in a far worse situation, he didn't take into account that Mussolini and Hitler took power in countries that were pretty much failed states until they propped them up.

The thing about fascism though, is that people, even with their hearts in the right place, don't seem to ever read fascistic texts, or socialist texts, and realize fascism is essentially the same ideology as communism. They spring from the very same root - the later 19th century notions of technocracy and unmitigated progress, and anti-democraticism paired with the need to tear down previous authority structures. Communism and fascism (not just national socialism) were more quibbling of differences than any outright hostility to each other on ideology grounds. They essentially are two ideologies competing for the same core ideological base. There is a reason a lot of the greatest fascist thinkers were socialists luminaries, like Mussolini. The shift wasn't that hard. Seriously, take a look at that time. It was a nightmare, and America only avoided degenerating into a hellhole by a thread. There is a reason Harding's winning slogan in the election was "A return to normalcy". Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini, and many others, all took inspiration, then and later on, from 'the American experience'. If you do run into old books, a word to be on the lookout was "planning" back then.

As for Mosley, he sort of represented the innocence and genuine grievance of the old, dreamed of world of socialism from the 19th century - of technocratic and meritocratic solutions to the dead ennui and weight of an old world. I tend to think KR portrays British socialism much more accurately - international communism wasn't desired, and until the Soviet revolution happened, Syndicalism was the dominant Western socialist ideology. It even hung on until Stalin wiped it out.

That's the thing; Tortilla Chips already penalises exodus nations without providing the benefits, the same way it current penalises Native American nations who convert to Catholic without providing them any benefits.

If I'm Brittany and move my capital to the New World before a colonial nation forms, then colonise and core 5 provinces (the tortilla threshold), it won't give the message to say Brittany has that national region given to them by the Pope's authority. Afterwards, even if I control three-quarters of the colonial region, if Spain colonises 5 provinces in the region and forms their little viceroyalty, they'll get the tortilla treaty for that region (and give me the penalty for colonising if I continue to colonise the rest of the area). Likewise, if I am Iroquois, control 5 provinces and convert to Catholic, I don't get given a Tortilla grant over my starting region. But then, if France comes in and pops 5 colonies in Maine, I'm suddenly given the relation and colonisation penalties for colonising the empty spots in Kentucky and West Virginia (despite being Catholic and being in control of most of the region for the last 50 years).

In KR it was the chaos of WW2 bringing down the old regimes who couldn't adapt, same as in our timeline with the USSR. In Franco's Spain, fascism was formed up as a vanguard of old Spanish royalism and traditionalism while the communists took up the republican cause, neither Republican nor Nationalist Spain were wholly communist or fascist states in the sense of the USSR and Hitler's Germany. In AARnon's AARs, it was like this in his France where fascism was just appointed as means of safeguarding the old ways while giving some leeway to the lower classes to keep support for the regime going. Or communism happening because of an electoral thing and political ambitions.

So back to Mosley, he had two options. Work within the system parties to push his goals, or try to form an irrelevant party and only get a small cult following. The British trust in the two(or three) party system was way too high, they had just won the war, fascism in the Italian or German sense wasn't going to happen. As you pointed out, Woodrow Wilson's America wasn't exactly blackshirts marching on the street.

What was amazing though was RNS Lilburne - a rather early carrier, that somehow survived where newer ones had not. It literally was left with 1HP, or about as much. I imagine the poor girl being hit even harder than the Yorktown. All that experience was rapidly eaten up because having to ferry in new crew.

If you have Common Sense, you can pump mana into provinces to forcibly develop them. Develop a province enough, and thd Institution will appear there. This is only really an issue with the Renaissance, Colonialism and the Printing Press institutions, though. Global Trade, Manufactories and Enlightenment can be brought in by means of having thr right buildings.
