Last game I went through like 5 of those damn keeps looking for a waterskin.
And the last fortress I went to was a confusing maze with no shops.
Shit's fucked, man. I know some folks are willing to put up with it, but no more of that bullshit for me, thanks. I've probably played five weeks worth of adventure mode and had all of five minutes worth of fun, the rest taken up by grinding and wandering and trying to work around all the broken and missing shit.

Adventurer mode without dfhack is almost unchanged and a great way to experience crazy shit after an update hits, really all you're missing is being able to teleport around/hack your appearance/race/swap bodies/set shit on fire/launch yourself around/ghost yourself/advfort on top of your campstructions.

So I didn't really look to hard at my embark screen, is there a way to find out if I'm neighboring a goblin civ?

The iron man is going to get killed next round most likely.
He was given a lucky draw in that his opponent had a wooden mace. Iron men are hollow, every hit that He-Man makes has a good chance of lopping off a limb.

>>181618335
Sure, but making money isn't really ever an issue. Stone crafts are cheap, but unless you're doing a challenge fort you always have surplus stone. Gem-encrusted gem-encrusted gems are insanely valuable with a half-decent quality modifier. The metal industry takes a bit of work getting started, but once you do, you'll be rolling in dosh.

Selling prepared meals certainly works, but it always felt a bit too much like an exploit to me. Like gem-encrusted crossbow bolts and spiked wooden balls, I think they're too valuable for what they are. You wanna sell them, fine, but don't pretend they're a REAL business.

I just sell my surplus meals, I buy usually unprepared stuff from the caravans and keep my cooks busy which is why I have too much food. Sometimes keeping mining out entire layers of stone only to keep on making stone crafts seems just pointless. Also I'm keeping a above ground fort now just like humans or elves :^)

Carpenter is also not that bad, having good beds is nice and if you're doing an above ground fort and using tons of wood making wooden furniture isn't terrible

He's the only irredeemably evil participant.
His very existence in the tournament stands for the gaming of the points system.

Real-world haute cuisine operates on a time limit. Being able to serve masterwork roasts in a tavern for profit would be pretty fun, but selling them to a caravan by the hundreds, to be hauled to a city on the far side of the goblin nation, just doesn't seem reasonable.

The value comes from the quality modifiers and large stack sizes. As long as dog meat has nonzero value, cooking a hundred chunks of it to perfection is going to make money.
Also, there's no way to modify food rotting rate, or to make traders care about it.
>>
>>181613123
if you count "being born by other hist figs" as doing something important. the thing in adventure mode is that the player seems to work just like the abstract pops. he starts out as a mook who isn't even mentioned in history, and if you kill someone, then the game starts keeping track of you in legends mode. kinda like with the animals who get names after mauling people.

you can modify food rotting with dfhack, and mods to raws can change the amount of food you get and/or the growth rate of plants from farming.

Could anyone take a look at this creature file I made, specifically the Face caste, which I intended to have an ability based on the werewolf transformation where they transform into a cocoon of flesh for a few seconds before bursting out with their wounds healed. However, this ability doesn't work and I don't know why, so if someone could fix this for me, I would be very grateful. Also, I'd make a custom creature and civ for you if you desire, so long as the request is in the bounds of reason (AKA not something with like several dozen different castes or using stuff that can't actually be done with the current modding tools.) Also, there was another anon who helped me with another problem relating to this race and I still owe them a custom civ if they want one, so if you are lurking in this thread feel free to tell me what civ you want, if any.

If you request the maximum of every kind of cloth from the liaison you'll get a ton of it. Each pip requests a bin of it, not a single piece. Request thread too for a few extra. Also consider requesting all the shearable livestock, shear and milk once then slaughter.
If you want to never worry about clothing again request the maximum of every kind of leather. You'll get 4 bins of every kind your civ can bring. You probably won't be able to afford it all unless you cheese the fuck out of trap components, though.

Bronze is the shittiest metal.

I was playing Adventurer mode and I picked a fight with an axe-wielding Chieftan. He was incredibly skilled. I couldn't lay a finger on him, even when I took the easiest shots I could, but he landed a powerful blow nearly every turn. I should've died in a few turns.
However, for some reason, his -<Bronze Battle Axe>- simply could not manage to break my adventurer's skin. Oh, sure, it made a handful of light bruises, but for some reason it was totally incapable of doing any actual damage. Eventually, I got a lucky shot in and managed to beat the guy who way outskilled me.

Considering it was a masterwork battle axe wielded by a master warrior, you'd figure it'd work better, but no. I think Bronze is just a shitty metal.

use tab to switch tabs on the status screen, if you have a kitchen go to the kitchen tab and turn off cooking on some plants, cooked plants don't produce seeds and unless you have high stocks it is best to be careful, that said I think the best way to do that is to hire a book keeper and have them inspect your forts stock, then just use the stocks screen

If you want a variety of above ground crop then gathering is useful, but the only way to get the seeds is either processing them at the farmers workshop (pig tail to thread for cloth, quarry bush to 5 quarry bush leaves in a bag, etc.) or have them eaten raw or brewed, I think it works the same way with dying clothing if you ever get into that industry

Somebody should make a mod in memory of Wilbo Waggins. Only crabs, dogs, and a few other things. Add the ability of dog adventurers. Dog civs, with legendary misc object users as their warriors, using combat socks. Crabs are basicially the goblins: Evil, not that well-equipped, and everywhere. Only weapons that can be forged are combat socks and large daggers, between both civs. Make it so that legendary doggie adventurers can decimate the crab hordes.

I'm talking about the Aur package, for some reason it's an empty shell. I had to install everything lazy noob pack was supposed to come with. if I tried to launch any utilities with any would freeze up so I end up installing them separately from their respective Aur packages. only thing left is to decide on a tile of graphic set to install manually. I prefer something that retains the crudeness of the ASCII text default well not being so God damn tiny on my 1080p monitor.

Nope. You want to do the actions separately. However, if it cancels because there's no iron bars, it doesn't cancel the job order, and it'll keep trying every now and then until there are iron bars. So it won't lose track of how many swords are yet to be made.

Advanced worldgen question.
Modding included.

Is there a way to make civilisations to expand for some time and then shrink and die? I'm trying to generate a postapocalyptic world, filled with ruined settlements but with minimum settlers.
>>
>>181703737
Make the civilization creatures have short lifespawns and extremely weak so they will die in worldgen. Then edit them so they will always die by doing something like removing lungs without giving them a tag that allows them to live without em so any surviving members will die as soon as the game loads them up.

Its not a perfect solution but its the best i got with the way the game is hardcoded.

Looked up my book keepers stocks, 26 copper wheel barrows, but the stone pile is never stocked past one, even when it is set to 3 wheel barrows, I have checked almost everywhere else, the majority of stockpiles use no wheel barrows, which makes me think this has something to do with pathing, with dwarves too dumb to use stairs or one tile entrances, and no, my fort isn't full of one tile entrances mainly for workshops or bedrooms, as I know there won't be too much traffic there, I have considered and working on adding extra double wide passages, it will probably speed things up

It is just a normal stockpile, don't need a gazillion rocks for my mason and stone crafter, at least they decided to bring an extra wheel barrow, widened the entrance of a few places noticed that one dwarf taking a pot would make the stone crafter take a slightly longer detour. I think I should restart, a shame because I had nice setup to glass and gems, the fortress is going downhill. At least we have fully clothed dwarfs, don't talk about the dudes who died to the multilayer moat project and the apparently live baby living in the moat.

Most important item is Bituminous Coal followed by Lignite, a smelter can make lots of coke (unit of fuel) from them, and they are cheap, just need one unit of fuel, some non economic fire proof rocks and optionally if you want to make your picks and axes (Much cheaper) then bring a copper ore.

yeah it generally takes ages to kill people that way. I can take down most opponents in just 2-3 hits when I use targeted attacks. For example, as a crab man facing a human bandit, I sliced him the leg as he attacked me, stunning him, then stabbed him in the chest and finished him off with a quick decapitation. Easy as pie.
