i dont really understand the point of the 6 stacking blood
>>
Bought this game a week ago and love it. Got a team of 6's now. I've noticed though that they barely survive lvl 5 missions still. Comparing them to some of my B teams I think the composition might just be shit. From rank 1 to 4 I've got
Crusader, Leper, Highwayman, Vestal.

The Crusader feels awkward, not the best tank and neither the best damage dealer. Leper feels a bit stronger. Highwayman feels like trash and Vestal with healing gear aoe healing for 8+ is the only reason these retards survive anything. How do I fix this?

Is the HWM garbage? I'm kind of attached to him and the Crusader since they're my first boys and would like to make him work.

Does rank 1&2 really matter what position they're in? Feels like everything that can hit either can hit the other, and 2 actually feels like he gets more shit than 1.
>>
So let me get this straight; those who have been into the Darkest Dungeon itself give bonus xp to all the parties they join, but they are rather useless as they can only go on lvl 5 missions?
>>
>>181525004
Just take a single low level in with three level sixes. Easily doable if you don't do a long mission
>>
>>181525157
Allright. Not as useful for faster levelling as I originally thought, but at least still usable
>>
>>181524873
pistol shot has crazy crit mod if you seek a good skill for rank 3-4 highwayman, but otherwise you just want him to do duelist advance+point blank shot (or vice versa)
bulwark of faith is actually decent now, and double crusader holy lance strat never gets old
>>
>>181525216
Champ dungeons give more xp anyway, so you can usually get a level 0 to level 3 with one medium mission. (4 if you have ancestors portrait).
>>
>>181524873
your team is really weak to shuffling and you cant kill anything in the back since the HWM has to do it all on his own

best skill the HWM has atm is the duelist's advance since he can hit every rank and the riposte deals good damage while punishing enemy aoe, but since you have 2 guys who must be in rank 1-2 its awkward to use

you could use duelists advance into holy lance, but the crusader being so slow means you wont kill anything before they can act

crusader can support his team and get them off deaths door while a leper mostly focuses on himself

>Does rank 1&2 really matter what position they're in? Feels like everything that can hit either can hit the other, and 2 actually feels like he gets more shit than 1.
some attacks only hit rank 1 like the fat bandits point blank shot

the number on the other areas indicate how many bosses you've killed. If your area is level 1, for example, then that means that either the first boss is ready to be fought

>>
>>181526986
Isn't there only 1 Shrieker event in a playthough now?

So you only get 1 chance to get the positive quirks
>>
>>181525968
>>181525968
>>What kind of changes should I consider?
depends who you want to keep and what area you plan on running

main change probably would be moving reynauld to rank 2 so dismas can stab the backrow and reynauld can follow up with holy lance while the vestal keeps the other one stunned

crusaders being slow will help here since you can be sure your HWM can move him into position

don't forget that the leper can knockback enemies 3 spaces so you can often push something so far back they cant threaten you while moving their backrow forward so they spend their turn retreating

you ideally want to do it like this:

dismas stabs enemy 4, leper knocks enemy 1 into rank 4, vestal stuns the new enemy in rank 1 and reynauld finishes off whoever dismas stabbed

enemies are now all out of position and the one guy that is in range is stunned
>>
>>181527662

If you lost 8 trinkets you will always get a Shrieker fight.

I think the event of him stealing your trinkets is one time only
>>
>>181525942
>being able to stack it at all

Yeah what the fuck were they thinking? Also the crimson curse should instantly blight and put your heroes on death's door and give them -50% deathblow resist. And the fanatic should have 3 pyres and spawn as a common enemy in every dungeon, and the collector should be immune to stuns and the shambler should get buffed by the clapperclaws.

There you go, I fixed Darkest Dungeon.
>>
Is the musketeer workshop hero OP or balanced?
>>
>>181527742

>>181527823

>>
>>181527967
Class-based seems more logical to me.

>>181528008
I'm pretty sure he's talking about the mod that makes her a functionally different class.
>>
>>181527952
stun is probably his best move

drop bulwark, crusader is tanky, but unlike man at arms or the dog he cant force enemies outside of the mushrooms to attack him

you could drop accusation for the stress heal too since making sure 1 target die is better than spreading out the damage

>>181528008
never take them into a new boss
>>
>>181527345
>>181527154

>number on the other areas indicate how many bosses you've killed

But i don't think I've killed any bosses yet besides a collector showing up. I just did the sort missions to scout and a medium mission.

What's the difference between the number at the top 0 to 6 and the apprentice level?
>>
>>181528234
meant to say how many bosses you've killed -or- are able to kill.
>>
>>181526840
the level in the skull shows you how many bosses are unlocked for that area, the bar next to the skull fills up when you do missions in the area

the lvl 6 you see is the mission level for the quest, all DD missions are lvl 6, but the area level is always 0 since nothing needs to be unlocked
>>
>>181528234
The apprentice level is the mission's level. It'll change to Veteran/Orange once you get further along. The number over each area is a measure of how much progress you've made, increases with successful missions, and when it levels up, you can fight the next boss.

Also wanted to add the game will spawn quests based on the level of your heroes in the roster. As you get several heroes to level 3, you'll see level 3 quests appear. But if you still have a good number of 1's and 2's you'll have level 1 quests to choose from as well. This is the kind of thing I was worried about when I started playing (a couple weeks ago myself, actually) but it's really not an issue, the game will just get harder as your heroes get tougher.

Might've missed the second part of that, I said you'd have the green one be a lunge in pos 3, then the others would be set up to throw daggers, pos 1 and 3 would have shadow fade to manage stuns and keep people in the right positions and pos 2 would get toxin/blight depending where you take them

Another thing I forgot to talk about is the Arbalest's bolas: you can push people quite effective with the new CC trinket giving your Leper reah to hew the weak but annoying backline.

With the trinkets I told you Vestal can one shot bone courtiers and crossbows since the mace now deals extra damage to unholy.

What happens if I Regroup while I have a coloured key in my bags? Does it show up next time in provisions?
>>
>>181534176
He's a healer with strong bleeding attacks. But his full potential, for both offense and support, requires him taking a fair amount of damage to activate various passive buffs and healing and access to his stronger attack and heal, which also both self heal for a fairly large amount to recoup the HP you lost.

He heals friends and himself, bleeds enemies and gets stronger as he's damaged. Read his Wiki page if you need better details, since he's got some unique mechanics that aren't entirely explained or all that intuitive.
>>
Just played for a few hours and I completely forgot how slow the progression is.

It's not BAD, but having to re-organize your entire group while your "main team" stress heals and drops quirks, diseases, etc. for multiple weeks is frustrating.

It did force a lot of experimentation with comps due to random party members being benched at any given moment.

I think I made much faster progress on my first playthrough, by focusing on the "main squad" (usual suspects) much more.
>>
>>181535135
>Does it show up next time in provisions?
Yes.

>>181534176
bit of both, you want him to get focused since he gets buffed at low hp and can easily self heal

he can do it directly so he marks himself and takes dots off his allies while bleeding himself to heal them

most of the time he can deal good enough damage on his own and don't need to make him low hp on purpose

he cant get deaths door debuffs either so don't worry about that

>>181535135
it appears in the provisions screen when you go in again
>>
>>181534176
he's a Tank/Healer/DPS with the moves you give him

use Suffer to make him a more attractive target/kickstart his HP drain to get to healing faster

Redeem for those good heals

Exsanguinate as your self heal if everyone is doing fine/put on a heavy bleed on an enemy

Punish is probably the only attack you'll need since it can hit the first 3 rows

For maximum tanking I give his busted tooth from the Crimson Court and the Martyrs Seal, though other alternatives can exist

Seems like a bleedboii whose true potential is unlocked when below 35% hp.

I'd guess you stack +maxhp gear and tank a lot on purpose to use his better abilities more frequently.

At low level, I've been using him as a bleedbot (useless in some areas) with the lowhp thing being a "nice bonus" when it happens to come up.

So, fought the collector for the first time. Wasn't too difficult, I was on my way to the wizened hag so I had a marking / position 4 hitting team of arbalest - occultist - hound master - hellion. Took 4 rounds to kill him, then another 3 for the heads. My question is this, does he always spawn the same heads? He summoned highwayman - man at arm's - vestel. While not too bad, MAA head guarding a buffed HWM head made for a couple of hard hitting attacks against my line.

Then I forgot to use the firewood before the hag, but my little C team of level 1's got through all the same with no deaths.

You need at least 2 turns using Solo to buff it to pre-nerf levels (Not counting the nerf his district received), thus ruining what truly made finale great (That it'd instantly delete 1 enemy from battle). I like the direction they went with, but it doesn't work that nice in practice, as battles end long before you build an actually huge damage on finale

*Edit the files inside to make your reskin
*When done, copy your shiny new folder into steamapps\common\DarkestDungeon\heroes\HERONAME. You'll have hellion_A, hellion_B, hellion_C, hellion_D, and hellion_Z.

to start the dlc you do a lvl 1 mission, if you ignore it you will constantly get a town event lowering the effectiveness of stress healing activities

once you do it though areas can now be infested with CC enemies, the infestation will grow over time

once its high enough enemies carrying invitations to the boss missions will start to spawn

once you kill the boss the infection resets and you wait for it to build back up to get invitations

it can be a bit of a lengthy process

He obviously bears some kind of relationship with The Blood, my theory is he's from the same monastery the Fanatic came from, a monastery which was overrun by the Crimson Curse. The Shard of Glass in this theory would be from a shattered window of the monastery's chapel or whatever, and the tooth may be his own or from the Fanatic after a brawl between the two as they went their separate ways - the Fanatic obviously taking serious issue with Flaggy's relative tolerance of The Blood. The quote would be fairly self-explanatory, narrating both the collapse of the monastery and the gap formed between the Fanatic and the Flagellant.

I just beat the Darkest Dungeon and the story makes less sense now than it did before. Why did the Ancestor need you at all? Why couldn't he awaken the thing himself? If all he needed was more blood why not slaughter everybody in hamlet and the surrounding areas? Assuming he isn't a raving madman and everything truly is a part of some great entity whats up with the anti eldritch stuff? What are the other gods/supernatural entities in the setting (its heavily implied that other otherworldly beings exist since the vestal is capable of healing religious and non religious alike and the occultist has a pact with some other entity) doing while this world shattering horror attempts to awake?

IIRC hit chance is capped at 5% (as well as 90%) even is it displays 0%

>I'm sure someone out there failed a trap check at 100% chance.
That used to be a thing because traps had a "disarm resistance" (That was the same for all traps and only depended on the dungeon level) so you could fail a disarm even with 100% disarm chance, much like you can fail to stun despite having 100% stun chance.
They changed that in the radiant update, and now the chance you see is adjusted for the actual chance to disarm the trap

There is an unseen +10% chance to hit for any attack that applies after all other hit chance calcs. So there's always at least a 10% chance to hit anything and it's also why 90% attacks never miss.

Book of rage doesn't give the sweet +3 speed the Outcat's seal gives. Also you no longer have the set bonus but it was kinda crap to begin with so whatever.
Might try it out though. I also wanted to try martyr's seal but then I remember it sucks on anyone who is not a flagellant

Not enough backline damage, you're gonna eat a shit load of stress from skeletons.
>>
>>181561876
3 crusaders + vestal is somewhat better, because you get more backline damage, if you can set up their speeds so that you get 2 holy lances per round.

Yeah the point of book of rage is to have 65% bonus damage, just gotta hope for acc quirk for champion

Do trinkets with torch effects do nothing in CC? Pretty retarded to completely get rid of a mechanic that so many things still depend on. I'm a shitter who depends on the ancestors candle.
>>
>>181560317
The ancestor didn't want to awaken the heart of darkness. He was just some extravagant fuck who got bored of having bitches and parties galore so he started delving into eldritch shit. He progressively fucked anything he touched and in the end he realised there was a really big really bad monstrosity lying dormant underground, and if that monstrosity awakened it'd reshape reality into a mishap of tentacles, flesh, and eyes; and that's when he realised shit hit the fan and he killed himself and called you to fix his mess.

>the vestal is capable of healing religious and non religious alike
She just channels the powers of "the light", whatever that may be, the game doesn't expand on that at all. Empowering certain individuals might be the whole extent of the Light's contribution to stop the end of the world

>the occultist has a pact with some other entity
That 'other entity' is in fact the Heart of Darkness, he literally says this when you hover over him during Come Unto Your Maker

Hey guys, love the game but wondering if you can help me with modding a few weird design decisions in the game:

1. buffing/healing skills only being usable during combat:
it makes no sense that in one second my vestal or plague doctor can heal blight/bleed and HP and then one second later not be able to do so because they're not fighting something. That's very anti-immersive and gamey, and even a set limit on outside uses would have been better.

2. Resolve XP only awarded on successful quests:
Don't know why the devs thought this would do anything but arbitrarily delay XP progression. It makes no sense: my heroes can fight 9/10 battles well but if I so much as retreat before I finish the last one, or if I fail to get through enough rooms, they are basically in the exact same position as heroes who come out of the stage coach. Ridiculous!

3. Automatically generate gold income for the estate per week so that I don't debt spiral into a situation where I have no money for provisions and have to send my heroes into pitch dark dungeons hoping they'll make a tiny amount of money. It's a punishment that doesn't achieve anything but to waste the player's time.

4. Add a minimum amount of stress reduction for all heroes on every new week. Pretty self-explanatory. Again, given the amount of stress that get thrown at heroes it's unreasonable not to have some basic mechanic in place to ensure the player's time isn't wasted just getting back to the point where he can use his heroes again.

Can a party in CC get away with having Flag as only healer? I'm thinking if I use a trinket that lowers his max health and keep his bleed on himself, he can use his heal almost every other turn.
I just really want to get the most out of my bounty hunter's new molars, and without a bleed I can't do that.
>>
What's a basic team to use for graverobber to be good?
>>
>>181562586
>killed himself and called you to fix his mess
So whats the thing you fight before the heart of darkness? A horror tailored specifically for you? Its plausible though I'm not really sure what the player character "is" in the sense that you are both a manager and squad leader. Perhaps they just function as your bodyguard as you explore the world and you bolt leaving them to die wherever there is a wipe.
>>
Can I discard the 3 quest items I'm meant to gather after collecting them all and getting Quest Complete!, or will I fuck myself?
>>
>>181541038
Opening Finale broke the game anyway. You instantly take out the most dangerous element in the fight and now you're in a 4v3 situation where stuns and healing make each fight a net gain. Skills like it and the double stuns completely remove attrition from dungeons.

So the best way to balance the game is to do things that are mechanically incoherent?

>Incentive to complete the mission.
There's already an incentive to complete the mission: quest rewards and story progression.

This isn't Cookie Clicker. I'm not wasting 4 hours of my recreational time on something that has no meaningful effect on how I play the game when I can just mod it out.

As a bit of advice for any comp like this, in champ dungeons you either need +acc trinkets or acc support. If the supporting unit is debuffing (as opposed to buffing) they should probably have a +acc trinket for themselves, and preferably a +debuff trinket.

Second, I'm a big fan of running rank 3 cursader with quick draw charm. It gives the team extra burst damage on the back row and often even lets the crusader one shot skellies before they get to act.

why are some rarer trinkets actually worse than commons?

>Balance
Gameplay trumps logic. The only way to make this logically would be to implement some sort of mana or limited resource mechanic, which would drastically change the game.

I'm not really fond of that either but the balance would be royally fucked if you could do it outside of combat. Camping is sorta similar, you can heal and restore stress and stuff outside of combat but you use resources and have a limited number of actions.
>2
well, it is resolve. not experience. resolve is a firm determination, clearing away doubts, dispelling fear, ect. It wouldn't make sense for them to get resolve from running away.
>3.
There is a building that does that but you can easily get 10k+ from one easy run, so it's not really useful. For debt spirals you have the stagecoach constantly supplying fresh bodies that can be sent no provisions into dungeons then fired afterwards, that's pure profit.
>4
The game is meant to encourage you to train multiple teams that can handle hard dungeons because a thing comes up later and you will need a lot more than just one team.

>The only way to make this logically would be to implement some sort of mana or limited resource mechanic, which would drastically change the game.
The game already has this in the form of provisions, so what is the big difference?

>More incentive.
Except that's the wrong sort of incentive because it doesn't reward excellent tactical play.

>It does literally what you're asking for: automatic cash flow per week.
That should be a basic mechanic, not an unlockable. Again, having to spend time and resources on this is nothing more than a way of artificially extending play-time and wasting the player's time.

>What is food?
An inferior healing item that's mainly used for camping and hunger. It also costs money, while hero abilities don't.

I have never failed a single quest in the game. Next completely pointless subjective assertion please.

>I've never had a problem managing money because I don't regularly fail quests. I manage my inventory well and only do Medium/Long runs
Good for you. I don't care about your personal experiences. I am literally the best Darkest Dungeon player in the world by the way, so what I'm saying is more accurate than anything you have to say. See how helpful it is to discuss the game in terms of anecdotal evidence?

>>
>>181564442
>Got nothing to do with it.
It has everything to do with it. If you go with the logical route then the gameplay suffers because you just casualized the fuck out of it.

>The game already has this in the form of provisions, so what is the big difference?
There are no provisions that heal you or your stress. And don't mention Food, that isn't intended to be used as a healing supplement to actual healing abilities, as they are tied to the hunger mechanic, heal for % amount, making it almost worthless, and limited to 4 rations before the hero is full.

>
Except that's the wrong sort of incentive because it doesn't reward excellent tactical play
Excellent, tactical play would finish a mission and thus reward resolve.

>That should be a basic mechanic, not an unlockable
Why? Your character doesn't own a business in the Hamlet that would generate an income. You arrive with nothing but bodies to sent to their doom and retrieve treasure for you to build up your supplies to increase you chances at those bodies coming out successful.

Its kinda both. It functions mostly as a mechanic made to limit how quickly the player can gain power otherwise why would the weapons/armor you can wear be limited by it? The blacksmith doesn't give a damn as long as you have the gold but it would completely fuck game balance.
>>
>>181564302
>well, it is resolve. not experience. resolve is a firm determination, clearing away doubts, dispelling fear, ect. It wouldn't make sense for them to get resolve from running away.
That's not very convincing. You're seriously telling me that my hero who has fought and won against any number of monsters in a particular fight should have no more resolve than someone who has never even entered a dungeon?

>>181564649
Excellent tactical play results in won battles, which does not necessarily equate to won missions.

>Just don't fail the quest.
Given that the game involves RNG that is an unacceptable answer. By the basic random nature of the game failure is effectively ensured at some point or another.

>Don't mismanage your funds so extremely that you end up bankrupt. Do you also complain about having to grind up a new hero when one dies? That's the price of failure.

This isn't Diablo 2 where you can chug health potions while mostly turning your brain off. In DD unless you are getting crit occultist heals all the time heals cannot keep pace with enemy damage over a long period of time and in many cases you may be punished for healing (Vestal heals HW for 5 then X moves hitting HW for 12 or heavy stress damage vs Vestal stuns X and HW takes no further damage and is eliminated before they can act again). It certainly isn't a crutch in this game.

>In DD unless you are getting crit occultist heals all the time heals cannot keep pace with enemy damage
Bone Rabble + Bone Soldier champion-level do 8-24 damage per turn if they hit every single attack, which they won't because they only have 80% and 100% base accuracy respectively and even the slowest heroes have 20 dodge from armor alone. Add in stun cycling and their attacks, and thus damage, are directly halved to 4-12 per turn, or an average of 8. You're telling me endgame healers can't average 8 per turn? You're full of shit. Level TWO Wyrd Reconstruction is already an average 7.5 heal before even factoring crit chance or healing trinkets. Level 5 Vestal single heal is a 7-9 heal guaranteed before crits or her mandatory +50% healing in trinkets, and party heal is 3-4 or a 14 average. One of these two characters and two sources of stun will literally let you heal to full against any champion-level fight with the two most-common enemies in Ruins.

And don't even get me started on getting a full round of healing against the last enemy of every single fight, or bacliners being left alive so that they can only use their escape moves, or single two-space enemies (or guardians in Coves) that do too little damage to be an individual threat when controlled with stuns. It's only worse at lower levels too, the healing windows and margins are much bigger in general in Apprentice and Veteran dungeons.

Go watch any fag doing a dark-only playthrough and they'll get through it the exact same way shitters get through the game in general; by cheesing heals for everything they're worth in every single fight.

That is one of the problems with the enemy design and the combat system as a whole.

Getting good is largely learning how to chess because there isn't all that much tactical depth. You focus on the high threats in the back then wipe up the front. If they didn't make it so enemies get extra stun resistance after being stunned they would spend all day being stunlocked.

Random drops from mobs will become less frequent, but this quest solution provides a) a reliable way to collect a supply of blood, and b) access to the courtyard content without an invitation. This change will go live later this week.

He’s also getting his loot tables punched up to add more incentive for enduring his roast.

Can we discuss the ending? So is it implied that we're stuck in a time loop or a sort until the true form of the heart is hatched or until a future self fails to kill it? It was satisfying but kinda underwhelming at the same time.

>If you go with the logical route then the gameplay suffers because you just casualized the fuck out of it.
Except this doesn't casualize the game, it would actually create a greater possibility space for complexity and more hardcore play: more healing opportunities facilitates many longer and more complex battles. But keep defending your trash game balanced around nothing more than wasting the player's time.

>Excellent, tactical play would finish a mission and thus reward resolve.
Excellent tactical play results in won battles, which does not necessarily equate to won missions. Again, because of dungeon and quest RNG that has nothing to do with actual battle tactics.

>Why?
Because it prevents the player from wasting hours of their time. It's as simple as that. There doesn't need to be a complicated lore explanation. It can be as simple as a stipend from your family, who gives a fuck.

>Both of those are trash mobs that present little trouble even without healing.
Yes and those trash mobs are both extremely common and become a free full recovery if your party has one (1) healer.

>No I'm telling you 8 per turn is nothing against anything that is actually a major threat.
Which is besides the point. Major threads are killed first. Trash mobs are left alive and used as a free camp.

>That is one of the problems with the enemy design and the combat system as a whole.
It's literally only a problem because healing directly converts weak enemies into an asset for the player. Enemies being conditionally weakened is a strategic element and thus beneficial to gameplay otherwise.

>Getting good is largely learning how to chess because there isn't all that much tactical depth.
There's not much tactical depth specifically because healing centralizes the entire game on damage vs healing threshold. It's regenerating HP in turn-based RPG form.

>If they didn't make it so enemies get extra stun resistance after being stunned they would spend all day being stunlocked.
Funny that you admit that stunlocking is overpowered and explicitly needed a counter-mechanic to balance it because it would mitigate enemy damage to 0, yet healing mitigating enemy damage to less than zero is perfectly okay according to your exact same post.

But hey, if healing isn't as central to DD gameplay then surely you can link me to some gameplay screenshots in this and previous threads where people didn't bother bringing healers, seeing as they're not nearly as powerful as I'm suggesting and thus entirely optional or even suboptimal, right?

How would taking or greatly reducing healing add much more tactical depth?

>But hey, if healing isn't as central to DD gameplay then surely you can link me to some gameplay screenshots in this and previous threads where people didn't bother bringing healers, seeing as they're not nearly as powerful as I'm suggesting and thus entirely optional or even suboptimal, right?
Healers aren't suboptimal but I agree in many cases they are entirely optional. Even the occultist in marking parties is more valuable for his quick marks than his curses because usually the enemy won't be around long enough for healing to matter.

HP attrition would actually be a factor for the first time in this game's existence.

I'm 40 weeks into my first crimson courtyard run, and I'm going to have to abandon it and start over.
Clearly I waited too long to start chipping away at the Baron quest, I always had an overabundance of blood and there were always better trinkets to be won in other places.

The blood has run out. Everyone above resolve 2 is infected and nearly all are wasting. I lost four to the infection at the end of my last quest, and if I don't finish the baron in this one I will lose everyone else.
I opened the blue room only to find another gate, with another key I need to find. My last plague doctor wasted away shortly after the guilt key crocodile fight, so I am down to Occ/Hel/Leper and I must find the green key and kill the baron. If there is another crocodile guarding the last key, we will die. Even if not, I don't think we will survive the baron. We will lose three more fully equipped resolve 4 adventurers, two ancestral trinkets, two bloodsucker only trinkets, and three CC trinkets. Not to mention everyone who will die from the infection when I return.

I do not have the time or blood to level anyone else to usable ranks, nor the gold to outfit them when I did.

I think I'm just going to quit, I don't really feel like gitting gud would make up for how much of a bummer this is. Just feels like poor game development.
Oh well.
>>

I wouldn't focus on building strict teams that only work with each other though. You'll get more out of the game if you just play normally and mix and match stuff.

That and who the fuck ever has 80 of any heirloom at a time? Honestly it feels like heirloom drop was nerfed into the dirt, I haven't been able to upgrade hardly anything. People were hitting level 4 before I could unlock level 3 skills at the guild, and I just barely could afford level 3 weapons by swapping shields and busts for deeds. Most of my heirlooms are at 10 or less almost constantly, the idea of trying to save one or any of them to build something has been impossible.

>How low do you want to go? No heals better than battlefield bandage?
Two ways to go about it:
>Make all the heals in the game bad as a form of HP recovery, but give them side buffs or utilities like Battlefield Medicine to make them conditionally useful. The HP recovery component should only really be relevent for taking people off of Death's Door, or getting them out of DDoor-by-Dot range.
or
>Keep heals as they are but add some form of unrecoverable HP loss mechanic to regular fights so heals can't be used to constantly keep your party in a "fresh" state, the most straightforward way would be to make some fraction of all damage the party takes be unrecoverable with combat healing. Camping would be the main way to recover from this and it would actually make the massive pile of unused healing camping skills relevant.

Each approach has its own advantages but the key point is simply to make it so fights actually do cost resources over time, as well as remove most incentive against killing things when possible instead of doing repetitive MMO DPS management cheese to keep their party in top shape in all times.

Also remove dedicated combat stress healing from the fucking game. Replace them with non-stacking party-wide -stress buffs or whatever you want, just get that shit out of here.

>one guy with 4 aboms
Not much need for a party healer when all four of your characters have the best self-heal in the game.

>What is the lunge meme?

You never get into a "99 megaelixirs by endgame" situation because no items have that type of value combat wise. Stress and HP are the only things you really have to manage. You can either ignore stress until they get an affliction and toss them in a facility, kill things fast enough so it rarely becomes an issue, or make a crit heavy party and get relief through crits. Like stress managing health is largely a kill things as fast as possible affair and maybe taking a few bites of food afterwards.

Its hard to spice up a formula like that.

> repetitive MMO DPS management cheese
Kinda of a bad example since in many MMOs the threat of running out of resources is a serious one. You never have to worry about your healer running out of magic in DD or misusing an ability that has a long cooldown.

I disable deck based stagecoach and then prioritize the classes that arrive most frequently.

For example in my current game I've received 20 Vestals, 13 Arbalests, 12 Crusaders, and 12 Lepers. That's more than any of the other classes so they are my default party comp.

I think it's cyclical, but not a time loop.

I think the way it works is that you've simply stopped the heart from awaking this time, and at some point in the future it will begin to rouse again.

Would be fun to have a game in the same universe but in the future where you have to nuke the heart.
>>
>>181582445
It's because DD has so few resources that HP not being a resource that you have to worry about over time is so damning to the gameplay formula. When parties are completely self-sustaining every single fight becomes the same "beat X enemies with your characters in top shape" encounter. There's no "oh shit a pack of wolves and I'm out of bandages" or "oh shit another arbalest and my p4 is already low HP", or any other contextual challenges that a procedurally-generated dungeon crawler lives on. Attrition is a core mechanic for keeping sameness out of dungeon crawlers, and it simply doesn't exist when healing is as overpowered as it is in DD.

You have made some good points and caused me to rethink the healing situation. Changing things would require a lot of reworking of the Occultist/Vestal and Red Hook giving a good reason for the change that makes players see the light.

This is kind of a problem. When I first started playing I brought bandages with me all the time. After I learned the game I only brought them with me for curios. No torch runs aren't too hard because you don't have to make many hard decisions and can just throw most of your shit away for loot.

Shrieker's prize is a different thing.

File is whereveryouputDarkestDungeon/campaign/town_events/base.town_events.events.json

What you've got to edit is the highlighted value to some big number, it's near the end of the document.

As a note, some trinkets in your storage will also be stolen, and the level of the shrieker will be based on the rarest trinket missing. But don't worry too much, all you've got to do is survive 4 rounds and you get your shit back.

You can also edit town_events.settings.json to ensure you get a town event after your next quest, although you'll have to look under the modes folder if you're doing something other than the default difficulty.

DD is so far along in its life that expecting the devs to do any kind of sweeping change is pretty hopeless. Most of the playerbase knows what to expect when playing DD at this point, and the devs would basically be pulling the rug from under their feet with such a fundamental change to the crawling formula. They'd have to implement an entirely new difficulty/game mode, and that would come with the expectation of a major patch and new content.

A mod project wouldn't be able to introduce a new balancing mechanic like temporary max HP loss and would have to manually replace every major healing skill with an appropriate and balanced new skill, including self-heals. There's also the probable issue that certain things about the game are balanced around heal existing and would become way too strong without them. It would honestly be a balance nightmare and a completely thankless job on top of it.

Well, my Vestal mostly stunned the Matchman and the Arbalest would finish him off. Though what would also happen a lot is my Lepers would be using Hew/Chop to hit the Brigand in front and also the Cannon and after the Brigands are killed and it calls for reinforcements, the Cannon would be moved to rank 1 and a Matchman would spawn behind it in rank 2. I wouldn't always be able to hit the Matchmen with my Lepers, but they were doing good, consistent damage.

It worked really well.

You very much can outpace damage if you're using a flagellant or healing trinkets.

With a junia's head and a bit of elbow grease, the flagellant can very easily heal a leper for 50 health every other turn

Similarly, with the junia's head, tome of holy healing or sacred scroll you can easily heal for like 15 per regular heal, or 7 per person for a party heal.

That depends on the kind of party you want to make. Most people complete DD2 with guard builds, but Flagellant's unique in the sense that he could tank Revelations reasonably well if sent in without a talisman.

One of the few crusader reskins that works now (unless I go back and use the old idle animation). Thanks for staying on top of it.
>>
>>181607358
The CC trinkets seem to be designed with the idea that they're just universally beneficial buffs for the class. Highwayman is a very straightforward class that doesn't really want much more than speed, dodge and crit anyway.

Of course, quite a few of the CC sets are garbage but Red Hook missing the point now and again isn't really new.
>>
>>181607358
The sets are pretty crap in general. They're designed by making one good trinket, then making one really shitty trinket you need to put up with if you want the set bonus. In most cases the second trinked + set bonus isn't even worth using when lumped together.
>>
>>181607358
You think that's bad? Book of Sanity is just Book of Holiness but without the -10% deathblow resist. Aria Box is just Book of Sanity but with an extra 5% tacked on, and Coven Signet is just Aria Box for vampires.
>>
>>181607703
I can forgive boxes since they're even rarer than typical VR trinkets, but Holiness is bullshit.
>>
>>181607612
>vestal set
>melee buffs only work in pos 1-2
>stun buff only works in pos 3-4
>vestal is not exactly known for alternating between back and frontline positions throughout a fight

I don't know why they keep on trying to get us to believe that battle vestal can be a thing, while simultaneously doing everything they can to subtly make it not a thing at all
>>
>>181607358
The dissection kit is just the bloodied herb but without the accuracy bonus
>>
>>181607934
Although to be fair, the kit's dmg bonus applies to ranged skills as well, in case you really want those 2's in your noxious blasts to go to 3's.
>>
>>181607807
On top of that you're giving up speed on an class that's already barely fast enough (or maybe I have this wrong and you want her going last?) and virtue chance.

Battle vestal is fine with profane scroll as long as you're in the ruins. She whacks the fuck out of skeletons and the damage debuff is appreciated. It's not efficient but you can at least pull it off.

I actually don't get why they would put mutually beneficial trinkets in a paired set though.
>>
>>181608038
If you're going 100% healbot vestal then less speed is theoretically better, since you'll be able to heal after the enemies have actually dealt damage for you to mitigate. It's the idea behind the Sacred Scroll, at the very least, since you'll be basically forcing yourself to go last there's not much benefit to stunning them anyway.
>>
Is there a single trinket related to having the crimson curse that's worth a shit?
>>
>>181608254
Fan's the only one that does something that a non-curse trinket won't do better.

So guys, I've been trying to find a way to make boss fights repeatable.
I went to campaign/quest folder and tweaked the quest.plot_quests.json file.
For each boss quest (excluding Courtyard and Darkest Dungeon bosses) I changed the value "is_repeatable" from false to true.
I thought that alone should keep these quests respawning. But I didn't yet get to test it out.
I tried starting a new campaign and I'm not ready to fight any bosses yet.

However now, I saw there's a mod in Nexus of someone who just had the same thought as me, did exactly what I did.
Somebody commented at the post section, that his mod breaks progression and he's stuck with boss quests of the level he's at.
I guess that should be of no surprise. Might be something in the hard code of the game that doesn't allow, say, veteran bosses to spawn if easy bosses aren't out of the game yet.

What if though, I changed the repeatability of only the champion level bosses? That should work, right?
They're the last of their kind and nothing changes in the game's progression after you kill them, right?
So you could just keep killing and killing them if you changed the repeatability value.

Unfortunately I am too early in the game to test it out. Can someone of you try it?
Just make a back of the file or your saves to make sure nothing gets fucked up.

What is the best Finale Jester Build in tour opinion ?

I have three versions in mind.

Crit one, for 1 shot kills in a first round

Dmg one for high dmg hits in the 1st round(more consistent than the crit build

And Doge one to utilize. Double Solo before going for a finale. (solo debuffs are beneficial for a team as well, but jester is in a harms way)

This video changed the way I looked at PD, Antiquarian, and guard abilities. I didn't realize that guard related buffs stack. He was using a low level PD and was still able to stun which had been nerfed at that point to keep enemies down.

Setting things up so your heroes get virtue seems like such a huge pain in the ass it doesn't seem worth trying unless you are doing a run like that.

Abusive Jester: I am in like company, unfortunately for them.
Abusive Abomination: Bung it up again and I'll awaken it!
Selfish Crusader: Count the gold again. I have tithes to pay.
Selfish Plague Doctor: Perhaps the party will make a donation to my research?
Selfish Vestal: Pay a donation to the church and I will bless your weapon!
Selfish Grave Robber: What an attractive bauble... Mine!
Selfish Bounty Hunter: Oops, was my take the largest? Shame that.
Selfish Man at Arms: They think I am and cannot count my coin. Fools.
Irrational Plague Doctor: My feet smell of gangrene... YOU! Smell these!
Irrational Plague Doctor: Eureka! Bubonic plague and lavender together!
Irrational Man at Arms: Someone has stolen my third hand!

As mentioned he fits well in any group. He provides enemy control, buffs, enemy debuffs, guarding, and is shuffle-friendly, all of which is universally good. If backline heavy then plant him in the front and guard, buff/debuff, and stun enemies.

you would need to adjust their speed so they could do damage without moving out of position or skipping turns

take a jester over the PD for stress healing if you want to do it in 1 go

put the mirror on the hellion

smash the wine with a shovel to get firewood for camping

i cleared it in 1 go with a jester, occultist, flagellant and a hound master

they did so well i only went back to dump the loot a few times

remember to take torches for the AC buff vs bosses, clearing mist and reducing stress
