So I finally got a computer that can handle Skyrim on ultra and I've been looking up mods to install but it's been a few years since I last did this and there's a million different options now.

What is the recommended mod list? I've been looking at Gopher's videos for beginners on youtube but they're a few years old now.

What is your mod list and what do you recommend?

The thing I'm stuck on right now is finding some visual overhaul mods. Should I piece it together with various texture, lighting mods, etc. or should I use a single overhaul mod?

The other big thing is combat and gameplay overhaul, what do you recommend?

I didn't know Theo got a timeskip. I'll have to grab the file and take him adventuring sometime.

So I hid a bunch of deactivated esps with Mod Organizer after creating a merge patch.
Is there any way to quickly move them back, or sort by mods with hidden esps (moved to optional folder) so that I don't have to go through each mod one by one and check?

Absolutely, I agree. Dress with armor bits are one of my favorite things. Probably if I added the shoulderpads that I used on one of the armor sets that I wore in the past, it'd look nice.

I'm gonna look for dresses with long skirts and get some that would fit Ellerete very well, soon enough.
Something like Grand Order Saber's dress would be neat. Maybe something less flashy like Alter from Grand Order would be good. I'm into the not-so-flashy dresses, kinda like in Dark Souls too.

There are replacers, remodels, and retextures and you could swap whatever armor with whatever other armor. There are ports from Morrowind and Skyrim as well if you want to use those sets too. The Daedric armor from Morrowind as an example looks great in Oblivion.

Hoping someone could explain this to me. I am trying to figure out MO since you all say that it is much better than other mod programs. I only have the game and its expansions installed, and I just downloaded LOOT.

The symbols in the red box in the pic only appeared after I ran LOOT for the first time. What does it mean when it says the files are "dirty?" Why would there be problems with the vanilla game files when I havent even installed any other mods? Will this be a problem and should/how do I fix it?

To the anon that suggested I start with Bethini. Thank you so much. My game jumped in fps quite a bit and I was able to move the resolution up to 1920x1080 *max my moniter supports* and it runs smooth during combat with about 10 people.


Also kinda of a side comment. You people are on a whole different level with mods than I can grasp. I'm over here going yay I have 15 mods and it's not crashing and you people have 100-500 mods and your charactors have timelines and storys and all this amazing stuff. And i'm over here with my orc shooting fire and swinging a pickaxe against wolves in the forest thinking im living the good life as a commoner. Just want to check with you guys to make sure I'm doing this correctly.

I am using Mod Organizer.

I just got tes5edit and I was following gophers video to clean my master files. I started with the Update.esm since thats the first one before moving onto the expansions.

I followed his directions and had no issues whatsoever cleaning the file. I closed tes5edit and it took me back to the MO screen. I noticed that I had an error message in the top right which said :There are files in your overwrite mod.

I opened that and found what you see in the pic. There is the update.esm backup file in the backup folder, however there is also another backup.esm directly in the overwrite folder itself.

My question is what do I do with these? If i delete the backup folder nothing happens. However if I delete the other .esm as well, I get a new error that says: Missing Masters - no guided fix.

Do I delete the backup then make a new mod out of the overwrite folder named "update," and repeate the same thing with the other expansions? I thought it automatically replaced the old .esm with the new one, so I dont know whats going on with this. Should I uncheck the "make backup" tick-box in tes5edit when I'm exiting?

So I tried installing TKRE ENB but the game keeps CTDing. I followed the instructions in the readme exactly as written.

I set enblocal proxy values to false and the game would start, but I got SKSE "memory patch" warning and there was no water or fire textures.

The readme says the problem is most likely SweetFX and that I should do a clean install. How do I do that? Just replace the SweetFX folder with the one in the TKRE archive? Because I tried that and it didn't work.

So I'm getting a bug with just about every piece of Immersive Armor or other mod armor that goes into the Mask slot. In first person, they all have some kind of major clipping issue and obstruct my vision imensly. I love the aesthetics of a mask that dropped and would hate to be unable to use it.

Has anyone experienced this? Is there a fix? Is the mask slot just fucked?

Either I'm missing something or there's no main plot to this mod, just a collection of sidequests. Not many CTDs so far. Voice acting is decent. Bruma looks too much like in Oblivion, as in, exactly the same. Overall serviceable but not impressive.

MO will actually take the dirty ESM files out of the Data folder after cleaning and place them inside the TES5EditBackups folder instead. GamerPoets says this is fine but in the interest of a clean intact Skyrim directory, my personal advice is for you to either make a copy of the dirty ESM files before cleaning them, placing them back in your Skyrim directory afterwards, or simply drag them back from the newly generated TES5EditBackups folder to the Data folder, removing the timestamp extension.

Sorry if this all sounds convoluted but I'm posting from my phone and it's hard. You should really just watch GamerPoets tutorial.

This is the second major issue I've ran into with Disparity that I've had to troubleshoot. First was a maxed out attack speed for no reason (hapens if any mod ever has the potential to edit player attack speed, including better vampires, any perk mod that keeps DW attack speed buffs, etc). I'm dealing with it for now cause I have no clue what kinda fuckery would happen to my character if I disabled it, but next playthrough I'll just install a few mods that aren't so goddamn fucky. Disparity is just an overglorified 'starter class' mod (theres a billion good ones), the race and sex tweeks are 5% at most, and the racials aren't that great (billion modified racial mods too).

See the thing is now when I mess around/play my orc mage *who wasnt supposed to be doing magic in the first place* I cant help but go dammit it's a freakin orc casting spells there has GOT to be a backstory for this.
Cuz I know orcs dont normally partake of the magic lifestyle.
Plus I normally play charactors in a warrior style almost every time. So this is also a bit more out of my normal stuff. On top of it this guy wasn't even gonna be a main or anything. Just oh hey orc guy to test these 2 mods...
And now I have this jackass on a schedule in the game. Wake up... chop 30 lumber and get paid.. Go fish in the river and than gather nearby plants. Fight animals that get rowdy and gather their goods. Occasional Bandits spot me and ask for my stuff. I dont like giving up my hard earned stuff so I say no. They get upset cuz not used to being told no or something. Tussle ensues. I head home with their no longer needed loot. Sleep at a decent hour. Rinse repeat. Occasionally I hit the tavern and make potions or use the various blacksmith stuff.

I'm not sure I should be concerned or not since I haven't got around to various peasent//business/job mods i'll be looking for to enhance what was planned for a different char.

When it comes to Orcs, it's probably the second easiest race to RP with. Orcs are a simple people, they respect strength and strength alone. Your Orc could be on the physically weaker side, but finds that they may be able to make up for it by becoming magickally adept.

When I rolled my 2nd Orc, Garn. He was thin, lanky, and pale. He wasn't physically strong, but he made up for it by being a good shot with a bow and knew his way around a dagger.

You realize that's literally the current state of development for cyrodil right? Meaning they haven't done fuck all outside of bruma, yet bruma is still an incomplete, CTD ridden mess. It has like 3 "proper" quests man. What a damn disappointment.

You know what's going to happen? The criticism and bug reports will overwhelm them, causing many to drop out completely and the mod will be abandoned. It will NEVER be finished.

Really, the very methodology in how they created quests and NPCs reeks of tropes and unoriginal trite. They want to be as inoffensive as possible - so don't expect any proper depth to the characters you meet.

Though I always tried to argue with Guardly about recommending ENBs because I value the idea of finding your own way. But that was like 200 years ago when there weren't even a dozen good ENBs. There are like 50 million ENBs now it's probably impossible to find a good one. So he was right all along. But at the same time recommended ENBs still suck. Naw, I'm not playing Skyrim atm. I'm gonna start playing Morrowind or Oblivion again and if I do, I'm gonna start an entirely new story with new characters and lore. I feel like the story of Hoboknight's Knights of the Meme and Tor-Raks Iron Skull Mercs has been told.

I'm happy with where it ended. Hoboknight redeemed himself, Tor-Rak died. Rohan started a family. It's the best way to keep it.

I may bring back Din, Emir, and Asiladore in the future, but that's about it.

"canon" mods usually have something people can objectively compare it to.
Since there are only two options, either it's a direct copy or it's not, shitposters can immediately and easily argue the mod is lazy or not-canon, respectively.
Now of course the latter on the modder's side is harder to do, and is subject to tastes, so what one person might enjoy another might hate.

But ultimately, that's not the issue here. Ignoring posts about there not being many quests or making CoC a male or whatever, the fact of the matter is on an objective technical aspect, this mod has failed.
I don't know why it's fucked up, I haven't personally ever worked with the creation kit, but for some reason they released this publicly. They simply should not have.
They deserve the hostility, at least with respect to the technical aspects.

See I built the orc max size since I didnt plan on being on him long. Test 2 mods and maybe punch a few bandits and off I go.

In morrowind my test char is either orc or redguard. makes things easier for me in regards to combat related things like monsters and stuff.
So typical setup max buff size and off I go into the woods. Nah commoner who works a job and pretty much is nice to everyone in town and slings spells in it's defence. It looks so odd. I have him in full armor medium? armor since some jackass orc decided chest puffing contest time. I just mixed spark with some sword play and outlasted him.

I don't mind since I am enjoying how this went from what was supposed to be point A and went nope starting on point J. I rolled with it and am having a blast and will be digging up those peasent/job/bussines mods later tonight.

Also asking in advance since I plan on having a charactor who has companions. What are the best or what you consider the best companions. Looking to roll with a squad of 3-4 others. I can do the whole recruit anyone stuff and enjoy that to a point but I know the real good stuff has shown up in screenshots or got mentions here before.

Also is it true for skyrim as it was for morrowind. That most texture replacers and better bodies were actually better on the frames compared to bethesda's textures? If so would that count for forest? I enjoy deep thick forests to get lost in. And what is considered the best body mod. Texture mods i'll sort myself since we all have drastically different tastes.

It's neither, that's not how math works.
In a counter where you must label it as one or the other, point and laugh at anyone who tries to do so.
But it fills the "slot" where logically an even number would fill, so if you can't reroll then you could argue "odd or (even or 0)".
